Chapter 460: Dinner with the Smith’s
The mighty little peep star: [Prime minister Long Feiyan looking cool on a smoking break during the breakfast hour of the Economic forum. Pictured smiling with him is the female prime minister of Thailand.]
My chopsticks died and went to heaven: [Wait, the prime minister smokes?]
The prince’s bosom bride: [I don’t care if smoking is harmful to one’s health because I would like to be the cigarette between his lips.]
A star and a fire fly: [The way he has pulled the arms of his long T-shirt up to expose his fore arms is what makes this picture cool.]
Ice and cream: [The sexiest prime minister in the world, if you think it’s a lie drop a picture of your own prime minister.]
Player player don’t care; [Drop his skin care routine.]
Cute Cao Dolly: [The second prince never fails to slay in all of his pictures, such a handsome daddy..]
Fire Lord Ozai’s grandpa: [The economic forum is a serious event and a picture like this takes away from the seriousness of the forum. And some of these comments are so wrong in so many ways.]
Even though she was outside of the country, her drones were still very much at work so as the peep star she continued to do her job.
The rest of the day quickly went by, between work, video chatting with her children on the phone and discussing some business with bear all of her time was occupied with something. While everyone else planned to have dinner around the outdoor pool and go swimming, Ian picked her up and took her to his family home for dinner. She dressed in a sleeveless brown crystal studded gown with a slit on the side. She paired the dress with strappy high heeled sandals and long thin diamond earrings. Ximeng had told her to dress well if she was to dine with a family of billionaires.
Coming up on the manor, she was very quiet and observant. The Smith family manor was like one of those old beautiful historical mansions that were often featured in magazines about luxury living. It was one of those isolated manors surrounded by a small forest of not more than two hundred trees to each side. It reminded her of the description of an isolation seeking writer’s house in a horror novel that she had read. It was also close to the ocean because she could hear the waves crashing against the sand with a force so strong and loud. Other than the waves, the environment around the house was quiet, too quiet for her liking because it stimulated the memories of that horror movie which she had long forgotten about. The gate of the manor was manned by two security men and there was an intercom and a camera above. The drive way was brightly lit, long and winded, there was a fountain of a mermaid and a man in an embrace in the middle of the compound.
"Huh." Chi Lian said when she saw the statue. It was not really something that she had seen before, certainly not in any home she had been to.
"It’s too much, I know but that statue has been standing for two hundred years. My great grand father was a captain of a ship, he loved to sail and if he had a choice he would be born as a creature in the ocean. He returned after one of his trips making claims about having seen a mermaid in the water. Then he spent the last remaining years of his short life obsessed with finding the mermaid. It ate up all of his time, almost drove our family into bankruptcy but he did not care. He was like captain Ahab and this mystery mermaid was his white whale, like in the book Moby Dick. In the beginning everyone thought he wanted to find the mermaid and prove to them that he had not been hallucinating and she was real. But then he spent two hundred thousand dollars commissioning that sculpture and it became obvious that he was in love with this mermaid. It broke my grandmother’s heart and almost tore the family apart. He wanted to sell the rest of the family valuables and build the largest ship that could also serve as a house and live in the ocean permanently with the mermaid. To save the family my grandfather had him legally declared insane and planned to send him to a hospice but the next morning he was gone and two days later his body was found at the beach. He had drowned, do you know what the creepy part of this story is? He apparently had a smile on his face." Ian laughed dryly and looked at the statue with harshness. "My father says that it’s a part of history, that maybe he actually did see a mermaid.I on the other hand think it’s just embarrassing. The story is like a local legend around here and when I was in school, some kids called me the descendant of a fish."
He parked the car and came around to help her out like a perfect gentleman. "That’s the story of the statue, may I help you down?"
"Where has this been all day?" she asked because she was surprised by his gentlemanly actions.
"My mother is peeping from the second floor window." he whispered. "If I am anything less than a gentleman she will pluck out my hair."
Chi Lian giggled as she took his hand but she also withdrew it soon after. No matter where she was, she was Jun Muyang’s wife and she could not be seen getting overly affectionate or physically close to another man.
The doors of the manor swept open and Chi Lian immediately started looking around the perfect house. At first smell her nose detected a faint smell of fresh gardenias. She was familiar with the smell because her aunt used to garden on earth and she had a whole section dedicated to gardenias. It made the house feel homey and welcoming.
At first glance in the living room she could count three chandeliers dangling from the ceiling which were made from fine crystal glass and they were flowing down in the shape of an inverted pyramid. She had been expecting one of those candle like chandeliers given the age of the manor but the mistress of the house had clearly kept up with the times.
Ian introduced her to the first to his brother, the only person in the living room. His brother who Ian said was named Douglas had a head full of blonde hair, blue eyes and he was tall. As tall as her husband Muyang.
"My brother did not tell me that he had a friend this beautiful." Douglas Smith commented. He held her hand like a gentleman and kissed it on the back.
"That was a deliberate move on my end brother, I know how you get around beautiful women." Ian replied dryly.
"Hahaha, which man does not like a beautiful woman Ian? Except for you little brother, we both know what kind of women you like." Douglas looked at Ian in a weird way that made her think there was tension between the two siblings.
"Behave you two, we have a guest." a female voice said.
When she spun around Chi Lian saw a very beautiful slim middle aged woman dressed in a silk white dress with a pair of short silver sandals on her feet. Her make up was perfect, done to draw attention to her small oval shaped eyes which were her best feature. On her face was a cunning smile, reminding Chi Lian of her cat Pearl when it was getting ready to steal something from the kitchen.
"Howdy," she said to Chi Lian in a thick southern accent.
"Hello Mrs. Smith, I am Chi Lian. It’s so great to meet you." Chi Lian greeted her with a slight bow of her head.
"Well lookie here, pretty and humble, where did you find this gem Ian?" she raised Chi Lian’s head up and observed her face quite appreciatively. "Not even a single mark on her bare face, whatever you are using honey I want a piece of it."
She had chosen not to wear make up tonight, just applying her face cream and some red lip stick. Chi Lian was of absolute confidence that her skin spoke for itself.
"Thank you." Chi Lian replied unsurely, puzzled slightly because Mrs. Smith would not take her index finger off her chin. It was both weird and quite rude as they were still strangers.
