Chapter 330: To the cold prison
Chapter 330: To the cold prison
Time flew by quickly and four days later, Chi Lian was fully immersed in her mission. She had a week left to accomplish her mission or risk being blinded in one eye which she was not ready to see happen.
For the last four days, she had been consistently travelling to the town where the cold prison was built and monitoring its surroundings.
The prison sat on a high terrain, surrounded by tall trees on either side. Just below the prison a short distance away was a lake, now fully frozen. It was the cold wind released from this lake from which the name the cold prison was coined. It was always cold in the prison thanks to the lake, in the summer it was not too harsh but the winters were brutal.
It had two sections, a male and a female section which were separated by a high sturdy electric wall fence. The prison was monitored constantly by fifty seven cameras leaving no blind spot anywhere. The dogs which monitored with the guards were trained by the military and so were the prison guards.
This prison stood like a scar against the beautiful surroundings. Perhaps that’s why many occupants of the town chose to abandon it in preference for better cities. Or maybe it was because only the worst prisoners were usually sent to the cold prison and they did not want to live so close to those criminals.
Chi Lian faced the highest points of walls which were manned by guards wielding loaded guns. She had asked T4 run background checks on the prison warden, the guards and every other member of staff in the prison just in case she had to face off with any of them.
Her first plan had been to break Dai Zhangye out of prison by infiltrating it under the cover of the darkness at night while dressed in her invisible suit. It was the best and easiest plan; however the more information T4 found on him, the less appealing this plan became.
For one, Dai Zhangye was a graduate student of Xichuan military university. He was renowned for his precise and quick fighting skills and he had been recruited into the wolf guard team which was one of the teams that served as special military police.
Dai Zhangye who was on track for a promising military career and greatness for some reason woke up one morning and decided to steal explosives from the ware house at the military base. Before he could escape with them, someone rung the alarm and his theft was discovered early.
Even though he had been discovered, he attempted to escape the military base forcefully in a car but then he crushed his car into a tree just outside the base.
He was arrested and questioned for hours but he never said a word. He was then sentenced to twenty five years in prison for theft of explosives.
Over the course of his imprisonment Dai Zhangye had consistently picked fights with his fellow cell mates. One fight resulted in him stabbing a fellow prisoner and he was thrown into solitary confinement. Once he was released, another fight would ensue and he would go back to solitary.
From what she had read, she had concluded that Dai Zhangye was deliberately getting himself into these fights because he did not want to be in general population for some reason. The only reason she could think of was fear!!
Dai Zhangye was afraid for his life inside the prison.
To be honest, his whole story barely made any sense to her; the whole plot was filled with holes. Investigators never found out why he stole the explosives or what he had been up to in the days leading up to the theft.
She could not just bounce a man out of prison without knowing why he was sent there in the first place. A key point of interest that would interest nobody but her was the fact that one month prior to these events; Dai Zhangye was briefly assigned to guard Doctor Li Mo.
There was no such thing as a coincidence in this world; she needed to know what he possibly knew.
She was making guesses for now because she had no proof of her suspicions but she was hoping to get some soon.
For the first time in years Dai Zhangye was appealing his sentence and he had a court date in two days. If he knew something, whoever he was afraid of was either dead or he was tired of prison. Or maybe there were other reasons she could not possibly fathom but she was going to find out today.
T4 had created an identity for her as a lawyer and he hacked into the prison system and set up an appointment for her as his lawyer. Hopefully, Dai Zhangye would not be against meeting her. If he was, she was not against bribing one of the prison guards to grant her a moment with him.
She approached the prison gates, showed her identification card and stated the purpose of her visit. She went through three more checkups and scans at different check points before being allowed inside a private room where lawyers and clients would meet up for private discussions.
For privacy, the camera in the room did not record audio however there was a security guard sitting right outside the door and if one spoke too loudly, the guard would be able to hear what was said.
She had come here in disguise, dressed in a black and white suit like a lawyer from an expensive law firm. She glanced at her watch every few seconds wondering if she was wasting her time or not.
"Is he coming?" she asked T4. "I have been here for six minutes now." she said impatiently.
"It’s a big prison host; I am keeping an eye on Dai Zhangye and there is a prison guard at the door however at the moment he is yet to be approached by anyone. The prison warden on the other hand has been informed about your visit and he is making a phone call. I suspect that someone is going to be running a background check on your false identity at any moment."
"I knew the warden was too clean. He may run a tight ship with his men but this prison is full of gangsters, murderers, rebels and the like. He needs to have strong backing to keep some of the connected prisoners in check."
"Someone is bringing Dai Zhangye host, he looks unhappy." T4 informed her.
She was relieved to hear that she would get to see him, but with the warden making a phone call, it was quite possible that there was another move behind this.
"They probably want to know what you are going to talk about. " T4 suggested.
"Hmph," she answered calmly and she leaned back against the uncomfortable metallic chair. "If they plant a bug in here, make sure that you interfere with the signal."
"Yes host."
She took some papers out of his briefcase and arranged them on the table. Shortly after she did that, the door swung open and a prison guard pushed Dai Zhangye inside.
