Chapter 292: Mei-Mei vs Pearl

"We are declaring our love for each other; my son just called me daddy. Isn’t that awesome?" Muyang yelled. His voice was full of boasting and pride.

Chi Lian spun around so quickly that she knocked over the bowl of water which she had laid out for Pearl.

"Shit." She cursed.

"Language," the old madam said to her.

"Sorry." She looked down in shame but then remembered what Muyang had just said and looked up. She jumped up and quickly walked over to Muyang and Little monk.

"What did he say exactly?" she asked as she circled around Muyang, going to the end where little monk was facing.

"He said daddy." Muyang turned around, preventing her from looking at little monk’s face.

Instead, she ended up facing him and his smug face which had his lips curved up in a smile. "Twice." He said gleefully.

She could see the arrogant proud smug look on his face. He was acting as if they were in competition and he had just won.

"Yeah well, he calls me mummy every day." She retorted.

"He called me bad daddy twice." Muyang boasted "And just daddy once, that’s more than when he called you mummy for the first time."

"Pfffftt." She laughed at him. "Is that supposed a reason for you to show off?" she asked.

Being called bad daddy was not exactly a reason to show off.

"Aaaaaaaah," a loud unexpected scream made them turn around.

Everyone that was currently in the living room turned their eyes to Qi Qing who was holding a bowl in one hand, screaming and pointing somewhere with her other hand.

She was pointing in the direction of Pearl’s basket where Mei-Mei was currently gripping one of the newly born kittens tightly in her hand. Pearl was hissing at Mei-Mei, hairs raised claws out and ready to attack.

Mei-Mei was scared and crying and yet she continued holding the kitten.

"Mei-Mei put the kitten down." Chi Lian shouted worriedly.

"Oh my God." The old madam placed her hand over her heart. "Muyang, save my great granddaughter, hurry." She shouted anxiously.

Before Muyang could move, Chi Lian leaped over a chair and scooped her daughter up with a plan to put as big a distance between her daughter and Pearl as she possibly could quickly. But first, she removed Mei-Mei’s hands from around the poor black kitten and placed it down.

Pearl came over, hissed at them unhappily once and then carried her kitten away with her teeth.

"That was so scary, when did Mei-Mei even get here, she went outside with her uncles." The old madam sighed in huge relief. She thought Pearl would scratch Mei-Mei’s face or hands.

The uncles in question where just arriving in the house looking ready to spring into action in case a fight was going down. Everyone that some unwanted guests were about to arrive.

"We heard screaming, what happened?" Ringo asked.

"How could you be so careless and take your eye off your niece? She was almost mauled for stealing a new born kitten."

"She could have been mauled, mauled do you even understand that?" the old master shouted and he used the same word his wife used.

Chi Lian wanted to intervene and say that mauling was too big of a term or simply exaggeration since Pearl was a cat and not a mountain lion.

"We heard shouting, what happened?" Papa Chi and mama Chi also came downstairs looking around wildly in worry.

"Mother," Chi Lian said. Her eyes were glued to mama Chi who had apparently changed an outfit when she was upstairs.

"What happened, was someone injured?" her mother asked in response.

Chi Lian shook her head and replied, "Mei-Mei was playing around with Pearl’s newly born kitten and Pearl hissed at her."

"Is she okay?" Mama Chi being the dotting grandmother that she was made the rest of her way downstairs approached Chi Lian and took Mei-Mei from her arms.

She proceeded to check the little girl over from head to toe while she nagged and complained.

"How could you all allow her to play around with a newly born kitten? Don’t you know that all mothers human or animal are very protective of their young ones?

We have an entire room filled with toys for all the pets at home, someone should move Pearl’s basket in there as soon as possible. Move her with her kittens too because Mei-Mei and little monk are children if this can happen once it will happen again."

Mama Chi seemed to be back to her usual temperament, but was it a temporary thing?

"Mother," Chi Lian called her again, tentatively.

It was quite obvious what the tone of her voice meant, she was worried and she wanted to broach the subject about her mother’s welfare but she was worried.

"Why is it so quiet in here, we have visitors and the television is off. Has anybody been taking care of the dinner preparations?" Mama Chi continued talking about anything other than her state of mind.

"Mother," Chi Lian called her once more. This time round, she touched her mother’s arm.

Mama Chi took a deep breath, grabbed a remote from the table in front of them and switched on the television. She specifically turned on Phoenix television and then smiled at the old master and madam brightly.

"In-laws, how long have you been here and why did nobody tell me that we had visitors?" she asked. She was doing everything possible to avoid talking about her feelings.

"Mother," Chi Lian called softly this time round. Those fears, worries and doubts returned once more with a vengeance.

Mama Chi told Chi Lian, "Let’s go and see what’s going on in the kitchen."

Since Chi Lian was determined to talk about the elephant in the room, they might as well get it over and done with.

When they walked away, the old madam whispered to her husband, "Do you think they are going to have a fight?"

"I hope not." The old master replied. He looked at Muyang and said "Don’t follow them."

He knew that with his grandson’s over protectiveness, it was not impossible for Muyang to follow them. This was something Chi Lian and her mother had to deal with in private.

Chi Rui made a move to follow and the old master said, "You stop, none of you should follow them."
