Chapter 291: Daddy
She smiled when she heard the good news from Qi Qing, with her Pearl being a snow white cat one or two of her babies probably looked like her. She could picture the little tiny cute white fluffy kittens already.
Scooping the congee and placing it in one of Pearl’s food bowls, she joyfully hummed.
"Do you like the kittens that much?" Muyang asked.
"I like cute things." She replied. "Qi Qing help me carry this to Pearls basket."
She thrust little monk into Muyang’s arms, and the little one gave her a ’what game are you playing woman?’ look. He was very unhappy with the new situation, his father was not as gentle as his mother who caressed him, smiled at him like an angel and fed him sweet things while calling him her sweet baby.
His father called him brat, nemesis, and told him to grow up soon and stop hogging his mother’s time.
"It’s just for a while, sorry baby." She said.
She got Pearl’s water bowl and poured some water into it from the sweet mountain spring water.
"I am restricted to three bottles a month and Pearl’s food is cooked with one bottle. In addition she gets another bottle just for drinking and she gets to eat your personally cooked food. Why are you making me jealous of a cat?
Muyang was kind of sulking and his lips were pouting to express his unhappiness.
"Pearl has just given birth to three kittens; she needs proper care during this time. Maybe you should also give birth and I will nurture and pamper you after." She replied and laughed at her own outrageous suggestion.
She carried the water bowl out of the kitchen while Muyang followed her while making childish responses.
"You think I can’t birth?" he asked.
Chi Lian laughed, "You can try, in fact I will do my best to get you pregnant. You will become the world’s greatest marvel if it happens."
Muyang chuckled and in his arms, little monk rolled his eyes.
"Foolish father." He thought. His little feet kicked Muyang in the abdomen.
"Why are you kicking your father again junior?" Muyang pretended to frown at little monk.
His son responded by looking away from him and saying, "Mummy."
Muyang looked at his son and said, "Will it kill you to say daddy for once, if you do, I will gift you a building in the capital, one that is worth five hundred million Yuan. Do you know the value of five hundred million Yuan my son?"
"Stop bribing him, he will talk when he wants." Chi Lian shouted from a small distance away from him.
Muyang craned his neck and said, "I am not bribing him, we are negotiating." Then he lowered his voice and whispered to little monk, "I am bribing you, don’t think I didn’t see you mumbling along to Mei-Mei’s cartoons in my office. I know that you can talk."
Little monk glared at his father.
Muyang smirked and said, "You are doing this to make your mother dote on you the most, you can fool her but you can’t fool me. I even have video footage of the whole scene so be a good boy, call me daddy and get yourself a building."
Father and son were having a private face off, one determined to be called daddy and one determined not to say it.
Since little monk was a child, Muyang relented and gave in first. "If you won’t call daddy, at least say something else. Call grandma or grandpa so that your mother doesn’t stay up late at night worrying about you."
Little monk opened his mouth and Muyang smiled. Was his son finally listening to him obediently?
"Bad daddy," little monk said.
"Huh." Muyang was in shock, one hand his son had finally called him daddy but on the other hand, he added a bonus word. "Why are you adding ’bad’ to it?"
"Ba...ba...bad daddy." Little monk repeated.
Muyang’s face became smug and he said, "If you don’t remove the word ’bad’, I will give you a building worth one hundred million instead of what I had promised you. I know that your brain can figure out mathematical calculations faster than so many other people. I am sure you know that five hundred is bigger than one hundred."
He used his hand to show little monk five and then one.
"You see, five is bigger than one. Don’t you want to be a rich young lord who can buy his mother gifts and snacks?"
Little monk’s ears were wide open now.
For little monk, his mother was the most important person in his life. He loved his father, uncles, grandparents and great grandparents too but his mother was his most beloved person, closely followed by his twin sister. Daddy was in position number three.
If someone wanted to convince him to do something, all they had to do was say that it would make his mother happy.
He also knew what money was, in that terrible place where he had lived before those nurses and doctors often mentioned money. They said the children would be money makers in the future and that money was the most important thing in the world.
If money was important, then he wanted it. If money made mummy happy then he wanted it, even if it meant following his daddy’s rules.
His daddy was right, he could talk. But there was something wrong with the way he talked, sometimes he stammered when he was nervous or scared. That woman fwho inspected the children in that place had slapped him once when he talked funny like that. She said they did not need defaulted products. He remembered that one child had been called a defaulted product and he heard that child was taken away to be thrown out by that woman. Ever since then, he had been too frightened to talk; he did not want to be thrown away.
However, his mummy had showered him with so much love and he felt safe and secure that he started practicing on his own how to talk confidently. Anything that made his mummy happy he would do.
"Daddy." He said.
Muyang smiled at his son and hugged him forcefully. "That’s it my son, you can call me dad from now on. Don’t be scared to talk, your mother and I love you so much so you should not be afraid of anything in this world. Whether its people or animals or birds, confront them head on without worry because you have me backing you up."
As he talked, little monk relaxed into the hug.
"Even If it’s a giant dragon like the ones in the cartoons your sister watches, daddy will slay it for you. So talk shout, scream and do whatever you want." Muyang assured his son.
His psychologist friend had suggested that perhaps his son was afraid of something which stopped him from talking in public. This happened after Muyang explained that he overheard and saw little monk mumbling and talking to himself on a hidden camera. This bargaining or threatening strategy was proposed by that friend.
He had been adamant to try it but it had just worked, his son had called him ’daddy.’
"My son, daddy loves you so much." He said and kissed little monk on the head.
Muyang’s voice was unexpectedly hoarse so he cleared his throat.
"What are you two still doing over there?" Chi Lian shouted from where she was.
