Chapter 285: She is not your mother

After blurting it out the first time, Chi Lian repeated her words once more. "She is not your mother mum, I had a DNA test done between the two of you months ago and it was negative. Grandmother is not your biological mother, okay."

Her words like the exploding of a grenade upon an unsuspecting group of people. Her mother’s sobs stopped and instead, a hysterical laughter replaced them.

On the faces of the rest of the family was shock and then worry for Mama Chi who was reacting in a way none of them expected. Why was she laughing?

"Mu...mum, are yu okay?" Chi Zimo quickly approached his mother and asked her nervously.

"I am okay." Mama Chi said between laughter. She sat down and continued to laugh as if the situation was comedic.

Everyone gathered closer around Mama Chi extremely worried about her and trying to figure out ways to ease her pain or understand her reaction.

"Mother." Chi Lian called mama Chi in a worried voice. This news had not fried her brain right?

"How can you make such an assumption Chi-Chi, my parents raised me since I was an infant. What you are talking about is impossible. I know that you hate your grandmother but to insinuate such a thing.." she broke off as if to make it seem like it was impossible.

"Mother I am not insinuating anything; I am talking about something that has proof. Factual proof not some theories. If all of us are honest we have had this thought once or twice. What kind of mother loves one daughter more than the other? I would maybe try to understand if you had a brother and she was partial to your brother because some families prefer sons to daughters but that is not the case here."

Mama Chi winced at Chi Lian’s words and looked away from her. She was not ready to hear her daughter’s harsh truth.

"Chi-Chi," her father called her name. His voice was hesitant; he wanted to stop her from talking.

"No, Chi Lian would not be stopped and she said, "If we do not deal with this right now it’s going to continue. Today it’s a house, then a job, tomorrow it will be a CEO position in one of the companies, then shares. Soon it will be this house and then everything else that we have. When will it stop?"

"I would never..." Mama Chi vehemently said.

"You would not mum those people are greedy and they have no limits. If we give them one step they will take a mile. To grandmother, mother is nothing more than a working horse. She will work her to the bones and suck her blood dry too like a vampire.

You care about grandmother because she is your mother but we care about you because you are our mother. I will not watch that wicked old woman destroy you. She treats her own daughter like a fresh flower and she treats you like cow dung. In my opinion, she has always known that you are not her daughter and she has always hated you because of it."

Chi Lian was like a cassette player which had been pressed to play and it would not stop. Everything that she had been holding back came bubbling to the surface like magma from an exploding volcano.

But everything she was saying was right and mama Chi started sobbing once more, she covered her head and folded her arms, refusing anyone to touch her.

"Wife, don’t cry like this." Papa Chi pleaded with his wife, trying to comfort her as best as he could.

"Yes mother, don’t cry for such a wicked family. They have never loved you, do you remember that one Lunar year dinner when you tried to get me an extra piece of meat and grandmother threw the pot of soup in your face?" Chi Zimo tried to comfort his mother while simultaneously reminding her about the bad that was done to her.

"Yes mother," Chi Wei stepped in and said, "Do you remember that every time they came to visit us, aunt would pack all of sister’s dolls and clothes and give them to our cousin? When I tried to get one doll back, grandmother pushed me down and I broke my leg."

"Grandmother also sold her old house and never gave you a single coin. All the money went to aunt and her family." Chi Wei mentioned.

Chi Lian squatted down and tilted her head up to look at her mother. "Do you see mother, grandmother has always been wicked to you and your family. She must know that you are not her daughter to treat you this way."

If she could drive these facts into her mother’s head with a nail and a hammer, she would. Mama Chi needed to accept the facts as they were in order to permanently cut those lechers out of their lives.

Their grandmother had become sneaky, since she couldn’t deal with Chi Lian and her brothers; she was making it a point to get her mother one on one

The more mama Chi gave in, the worse the demands would get. She, Chi Lian would not allow her hard work to end up in the hands of that wicked family.

"Mum, those people are not your family." Chi Wei emphasized. "DNA tests do not lie."

Mama Chi’s sobs had grown increasingly breathier, suggesting that she perhaps she was calming down.

"W..wh..who is my famil.." Mama Chi suddenly asked in between sobs.

Her question needed no unpacking, she was asking who her real family was if the mother who raised her was not hers.

Chi Lian wished that she had answers for her mother at the moment but unfortunately, she had none at the moment. The main reason why she had been holding this information back was because she wanted to tell her mother only after she had concrete answers to give her.

Watching her mother fall apart like this was heartbreaking.

"We are your family." Chi Wei suddenly said very confidently. "You have us mother, you don’t need them."

"Yes mum," Chi Zimo interjected with a cute smile. "You have a loving husband and four very cute children."

"And two grandchildren." Chi Wei added.

Papa Chi grabbed his wife’s hands and said, "Do you see that honey, we have children and grandchildren. You don’t need that wicked woman in your life anymore; you don’t need to break your back pleading for that old witch to love you.

You don’t have to carry any more scars on your body from her beatings. Even your heart does not need to sting anymore from her cruel words."

"Yes mother, listen to father." Chi Lian added. "The price for her raising you has been paid monetarily and physically. You don’t have to anything else, you can cut the cord."

Mama Chi was calming down the more the children shouted sensible things. She was wiping her tears way and heaving which pointed to drying up of the many tears.

"I need a glass of water." She said and stood up slowly but she stumbled.

"Mum," Chi Lian called worriedly. Her mother was holding her head now, looking unsteady like she could fall down at any moment.

Right before their eyes suddenly, mama Chi collapsed.
