Chapter 190: No one should be lonely

Chi Lian laughed at Muyang’s antics and shook her head. This man would always run away after dashing money at her unnecessarily. She looked at the picture of Muyang and Mei-Mei which was her lock screen and she sighed as she touched it. She could feel that hole that Muyang said he was feeling in his heart. She was incredibly home sick.

She fell back on the bed and said, "Aaah, T4, I miss them so much." She opened her virtual screen and looked at the fox.

"You can finish the mission early and go back to them." He responded.

"Yeah," she said with a sigh. She closed her eyes and pretended that she was lying in the snow making snow angels. She spread her arms and moved them as though they were wings in flight, If only she could fly to them when she missed them. In this cold weather, one should never be alone.

T4 who was expecting her to return to the murder files was confused. What exactly was she doing? Her facial expression was either displaying discomfort or sickness. T4 decided to scan her body just to be sure. All vitals were excellent, so what was the issue?

"Host, are you uncomfortable?" he asked.

"No, I am just lonely." She replied.

"We could play a game." He suggested. "You have not personally involved yourself in the farming game for months. Perhaps, harvesting some crops will make you feel better."

Chi Lian frowned. Was T4 trying to make her feel better or bore her so that she could get back to the mission!

"T4, do you ever get lonely?" she asked randomly.

"Host I am a system, human emotions like loneliness are not a factor when it comes to my programming. A whiny pet is a useless pet that is reset in my home world. I can be happy, angry or naughty. However I do miss communicating with other pet systems like myself back at home. For now, I am still cut off from those features. They will only be activated as you upgrade."

Sometimes, Chi Lian could not help but wonder how the people in that world lived. Everything sounded so mechanical and planned.

She decided to change the topic. "T4, I am hungry. Do you have anything to eat in the farm?" As she asked, she tapped the virtual farm and looked at the beautiful display of machinery, a thriving farm land filled with different crops, a lake which was not yet accessible. There was a spring, rockery, barn and so many animals. The place had really changed.

"Host for now we have ready to drink milk, cheese, soup, pie, cakes, pizza, bread and donuts." He happily and proudly informed her. He took a lot of pride in the progress of the farm.

"I want a chicken pizza and some milk. It’s too bad there is no juice." She ordered him but did not forget to voice her disappointment.

"Give me five minutes and you do have juice in your storage. But if you keep upgrading the farm, maybe next time we will get a machine that produces juice. I hope you won’t complain when I use money to purchase coins to equip the farm next time."

"Yes little boss, I won’t complain." She replied enduringly.

She grabbed her files and flipped through them as she waited for the pizza. She did not have a lot of time to figure out who the killer was. She needed to narrow down her list of suspects and concentrate on a maximum of three to five people.

"So," she said to herself, "The main suspects were two doctors, about eight nurses in different fields and one veterinarian. According to T4’s scan of all medical personnel across different fields in Xunwai there were about ten vets in this town, what made this one in particular stand out?"

She checked the file, looking for the reason why only this one vet stood out. The vet’s name was Kun Shikai; he was married in his fifties and lived with his wife. He knew at least three of the victims and paid visits to their homes. His fingerprints were found on the window sill of one of the victims.

However he had an alibi for each of the murders, he was operating on an animal and his nurse could vouch for him.

To Chi Lian, her biggest reason for being interested in the vet was that he was connected to the first victim Mr. Xie Gunzhing. They were childhood friends and he was also the vet to Mr. Xie’s dogs.

"Pizza is here." T4 announced cheerfully. He was happy to see her deep in concentration.

She got a plate from her storage and placed four slices on it. It was still hot so she had to wait a while before eating.

"I will prepare more as you work. I also got you from soda from the mall, ours is healthier than the one made here." he said cheerfully again.

"Mmm, thank you." She replied and went back to the files.

The vet had been eliminated as a suspect but the first detective did not rule him out. She had to talk to him tomorrow.

She arranged her pizza and soda took a picture and sent it to the family chat group. #"On the road food."

After sending the text, she ate and went to sleep, she was giving herself a deadline of two days to find the killer and leave this town.

Early in the morning, she left the hotel and met up with Piggy and Squirrel at a nearby restaurant for breakfast. In there, they gave her all the information they had collected so far. Sadly, it was not much.

"Boss, nobody wants to talk about it for fear that the killer could hear them and target them next. The whole town is filled with tension and suspicion." Piggy informed her.

"Yes." Squirrel agreed as he stuffed himself full on buns, "Everyone in this town acts like a spy on their neighbor. Someone knows something but they are not talking."

It was understandable, if nobody knew who the real killer was then everybody would be suspicious of each other. Besides, the last person in this town who claimed to know about the killer in an television interview ended up dead at the hands of the killer.

"What about the first victim, what did you find out about him?" she asked them.

"A lot boss." Piggy responded happily in this case. "Nobody wants to talk about the killer but everyone is willing to talk about the victims. Apparently the first victim came from one of the wealthiest families in this town. His grandfather was one of the first sugar factory owners in the town. With the money he made, he opened up a supermarket and built some apartments.

With time, the family fortune grew larger. They bought more land and built more apartments. When the grandfather died, the eldest son took over the business; he expanded the sugar factory from one to ten. He was so greedy that he basically squeezed out most of the small factory owners and to become the largest sugar producer in the capital.

He even started buying up plantations, stealing land and doing all sorts of shady stuff to enrich his family. He died of a heart attack a year before his only son Xie Gunzhing took over the family business until he was murdered. "

"It’s so sad boss," Squirrel chimed in as he took the last few sips of his tea. "He was a good man, he was trying to right what his father did wrong. He compensated most of the plantation owners his father pushed out and the small factory owners. He even built a primary school in the town.

He was the complete opposite of what his father was. I can understand someone murdering his evil father but him, I don’t understand."

"Squirrel, did you know him personally to assume that he was a good man? Do you what things he did in the dark?" Piggy asked sternly. "Are you becoming blind and trusting too easily now?"

"No brother, I really I am not. I was just speaking carelessly." He quickly defended himself. "Boss didn’t you say that we are going to see the detective, we should go now." he quickly changed the topic and stood up eagerly, marching outside determinedly.
