Transmigration: Lady Chi Woos The Ice cold Professor Jun -
Chapter 189: Peekaboo
Chapter 189: Peekaboo
When she got to the hotel, it was already evening, too late for her to go out and poke around in the town. The weather was cold, with the snow falling heavier than it had done during the day. All the boutiques and clothing shops were displaying down jackets, hats, gloves and the like.
In such weather, most people were eager to close up shop and seek the comfortable warmth of home. Instead of looking around for answers, she checked into her room in the hotel and took a shower.
From there, she called her brother and congratulated him upon bagging Chen Chu. Then she called Muyang so that she could speak to Mei-Mei.
When he picked up, from his background, she could tell that he was still in his office.
"Eh, why are you still at work, it’s coming to six p.m. shouldn’t you be heading home?" she asked. She was in a bathrobe, drying her hair with a towel.
"Why aren’t you wearing something warm?" Muyang answered her question with one of his own. His face expressed worry and concern. He was already bothered by her being in this town at a time when the serial was known to strike; did she have to make him worry about her health as well? "Are you trying to catch a cold?" he asked unhappily.
"I am from taking a hot bath, I am still warm but I can change into a warm outfit if that is what will make you happy." She responded.
He nodded and waited for her to go and change. Thirty seconds went by and she was yet to move. "Now, go and change now." he emphasized the word now.
"En." She said and placed her phone on the table. She changed into thick cotton pajamas and put a green jumper on top.
Then she returned to the video call. "I am back, all changed and warm. Now you tell me why you are still in the office?"
"We are working on the new information you sent. So far, we have identified around eighty women who were hospitalized with burn marks on their faces for one reason or the other. We are yet to know if one of them was Mu Qingzi. We are also looking into Cloud kindergarten, it’s a private school, not much is known about them except that the facilities are top notch and they employ a lot of foreign teachers." He explained this to her with a frown on his face.
Muyang was frustrated, they had pieces of a puzzle but it was not coming together.
"What about the financial records of Ouyang, did you successfully hack into the bank?" she asked curiously. She knew Muyang’s hacking skills were no joke.
"I am still working on it." He mumbled, "They updated the system as soon as they rejected our request. They probably suspected that we would try to get in illegally by hacking. I have managed to get by the first three levels of defense without them noticing. I have two more levels to go."
"Host, hacking into the bank is a piece of cake for me. You just have to say the word and I will give Muyang a hand."
She wanted to say, "Aren’t you the same system that said I should concentrate on my search for the serial killer first. Why are you wishy washy when it comes to Muyang?
"No," she said instead, "Muyang needs to personally feel like we are progressing."
"Chi-Chi," Muyang called, "What are you thinking about?" he asked.
"I am thinking about the sleeping killer, you saw the files I sent you. What do you think the case and my theory that the first murder was the most important one?"
He raised an eyebrow in that sexy questioning way he usually did, well she found it sexy. "Are you looking for the serial killer?" he asked.
She shook her head and denied, "No, I am not. I am just curious about it because I am down here. You know that I run a media company, I can’t help my curiosity and greed. Phoenix media has not had any explosive news since we moved to the capital. Identifying the sleeping killer would be explosive."
"And deadly, Chi Lian six victims a year for six years add up to thirty six dead bodies. Please don’t do something as crazy and stupid as confronting a killer. You said you were going to find answers that aid us in the search for our son. If you have exhausted your search in that town please come home." He said seriously.
Muyang knew Chi Lian, she was fearless. She always ran into dangerous situations without hesitation. While she had successfully managed to prove that she could protect herself, it did not mean that he would turn a blind eye while behaved as if she was invincible.
"Muyang, I promise you that I have no intentions to confront the killer. I am really just interested in the case from a journalistic point of view. By the way, where is our daughter?" She quickly changed the topic.
"You are changing the topic." He commented on the obvious.
Pretentiously, she asked, "What do you mean; I just want to see my daughter. When I left home she was sleeping, do you know how much my heart hurts because I am far away from her?" she asked and squeezed out a few tears from her eyes.
Muyang shook his head and said, "This is not over." But since he hated to see her cry, he walked over to CEO Mei-Mei’s office and entered. Mei-Mei was sitting on the floor, coloring or doodling in her picture books.
"My beautiful baby." Chi Lian called loudly, "Look here Mei-Mei, its mummy."
The little girl looked up and around for her mother but she could not find her so she looked at her father with a lost look on her face. "Mummy?" she said unsurely. Her lower lip wobbled and her eyes became misty.
Muyang knew his daughter’s ’I am going to cry now face.’ Quickly, he rushed to carry her and coo, "My good princess, why are you crying? Mummy is here, just look at the phone."
He carried her out of her office and returned to his chair, placing the phone upright so that Chi Lian and Mei-Mei could see each other clearly.
"Hi baby," Chi Lian waved eagerly, "I miss you." She said childishly.
"Meiyang miss mummy." She replied.
Chi Lain was pleasantly surprised to hear her daughter refer to herself with her full name. Looks like Muyang’s strategy of getting a teacher to spend an hour teaching Mei-Mei something was working. The Jun family had a tradition of cultivating their children from an early age.
"Mummy peekaboo." Mei-Mei covered her eyes with her small hands.
Chi Lian played along, pretending that she could not see Mei-Mei anymore.
"Where is my baby? Where is Mei-Mei?’ she pretended to look around as Mei-Mei giggled.
The game went on for a while.
Then Mei-Mei started mentioning random things to her mother. At one point she was talking about dogs, then cups, flowers and uncle. Muyang and Chi Lian patiently listened to everything she said. Cheering her on even when she pronounced the word right.
The video call was interrupted by another call from He Weili who was instructing her son to return her grandbaby home.
Muyang went down and set off for him. In the car, he and Chi Lian kept on talking.
"By the way, grandfather has listened to the audios you sent. He said that since you are spending money to buy this information, you should have a separate account to draw from and I agree with him. But I knew that you would not touch it since you have also refused to use my black card so I am going to just wire the money to you."
"Muyang, there is no need to, the child we are looking for is my son, I can do this much for him." She argued righteously.
"I knew you would say that, but the money is being sent anyway. Don’t refuse; grandpa’s feelings will be hurt if you do."
"But...."
’I have to go; we are almost home now, bye." Muyang did not wait for her to say anything else and he hung up.
