Transmigration: Lady Chi Woos The Ice cold Professor Jun -
Chapter 180: Smile through pain
Chapter 180: Smile through pain
The environment in the Chi household was no different from the Jun’s ancestral home; everyone was thinking very hard and trying to come up with solutions on how to find the missing child. So far, Chi Zimo’s idea of making missing child posters with a boy version similar to Mei-Mei’s face was all they had.
They were also still reeling from the fact that Muyang was the biological father of Chi-Chi’s children. It was certainly a welcome coincidence albeit a big one. What were the odds that the one man Chi-Chi was interested in turned out to be the father of her children!
Mama Chi was relieved not to have to lie the in-laws anymore about Mei-Mei’s paternity. And a son was an additional bonus because it could cement her daughter’s position as the legal wife with the legal heir of the Jun’s.
On the other hand, she was scared because the baby out there possibly being tortured was her grandchild. She used to think that the tribulations of the family were over after they bid the slums and poverty goodbye but clearly she was wrong. Life was still dealing with them.
"What are we going to do?" she asked her husband. The two of them were watching their daughter put on a brave face and play with her daughter but deep down, she was carrying a heavy sadness.
"We do what we can to help them. We may not be as powerful as the Jun’s but there are things we can do, we can take care of Mei-Mei and we can make sure that the companies stay afloat so that our daughter doesn’t worry about them. Chi-Chi said she is going to Xunwai village tomorrow because the woman who took our grandson has a sister there. Let’s just pray that she finds something." He said hopefully.
Mama Chi could only pray in her heart that things worked out for all their sakes. "We should go to the temple tomorrow and light some incense, extra prayers in this situation won’t hurt."
"Should we take the boys?"
"Everyone should go. I am going to call the in-laws and see if they want to come with us." She walked away with new purpose in her steps.
At this time, Chi Lian was distracting herself by playing with Mei-Mei. They were racing cars and bumping into each other. Mei-Mei was enjoying the game so much that each time her car bumped into her mother’s she screamed and clapped as if she was a victor of a formula one race.
"Vroom, vroom," she said with a bright red toy car and Mei-Mei clapped and squealed.
"Shouldn’t she playing with girl toys, you know like a Barbie doll or something." Chi Zimo said when he approached them.
"Who says girls can’t be race car drivers?" she retorted.
Chi Zimo who was demolished by her response shrugged and said, "Sis, I wish children could be born with the ability to talk right from birth. Mei-Mei could have told us that she was not alone in the womb when she was born."
"Yeah," she responded wearily, with no energy in her voice. She looked at her daughter and smiled, she was trying to be positive. She believed if she projected positive energy, maybe only good things would happen. For now, she just wanted to be close to her daughter and hold her close as much as she could.
"Lady, it’s time for the young miss’s bath." The nanny came by and informed her politely.
Chi Lian was not ready or willing to let go of her daughter for now. "I will bathe her myself tonight." With that she dismissed the nanny and carried her baby upstairs.
Gently she gave her daughter a bath and dressed her in a yellow dinosaur onesie and they returned downstairs for dinner. During dinner, she carried Mei-Mei and fed her. No matter who came by to relieve her, she turned them down.
At bedtime, she pulled out that breast feeding gadget and Mei-Mei latched onto the nipple happily. She was feeling this desperate need to bond with her daughter even more now.
That’s how Muyang found them, Mei-Mei breast feeding and Chi Lian singing a lullaby while carresing her hair. She was surprised to see him and she expressed her shock with her words.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I am sleeping over." He declared. He then sat on the bed and spent a few minutes just staring at his daughter who was now sleeping. "I feel this empty hole in my heart now because we have a missing son and this unshakeable fear that if I take my eyes off her for a second she will disappear."
"I am feeling the exact same thing. I have been holding her all evening but I feel like it’s not enough. If she disappears from my sight even for one second I get these palpitations in my heart as if it will explode at any second." She answered.
"Is this how we are going to be until we find him? "He asked. Were they going to be the kind of parents that keep a tight rein on their child because they are scared the world will hurt them?
The two of them were huddled together very closely with Mei-Mei in between them. They were watching her as if she was their entire world.
"I don’t know." She responded with a sigh. "I just hope we find him soon. Everything will be okay if we find him. I hope so anyway. But we shouldn’t smother her or be sad all the time before we find him because it will make us bad parents. We need to be happy around her Muyang; she needs to feel our love in every way."
While she was bravely saying this, tears escaped from her eyes. All along, while playing with her daughter she had been smiling through her pain. It was not easy doing such a thing.
He nodded, agreeing with everything that she said. But when he saw her tears, he knew that he also needed to assure her that he would find their son. He reached his hand out and touched her arm. "I will find him Chi-Chi; I promise you that I will do everything in my power to find him. I will search every corner of the earth for our child. I want to go with you tomorrow; your mother has told me that you have a lead." He said with a made up mind.
"No," she rejected his offer immediately. "We need to attack this issue from two sides. You follow your leads and I follow mine while we both keep each other updated on what we have found. This will help us avoid going over what the other has already finished checking. If you have looked into someone, I won’t have to waste my energy and time doing the same. So, while I meet that Mu woman’s sister, you should meet her ex workmates, school mates, friends and anybody else that knew her."
"Chi-Chi," he called her name in a worried voice.
