Chapter 179: A family mandate
Chapter 179: A family mandate
Muyang returned home with a heavy heart. He may not have shown it at the Chi family home but deep down he was frightened. The confidence he exuded around Chi Lian was nowhere to be seen. His shoulders were hunched the veins on the side of his head were tight.
The first thing he did when he arrived home was summon the secret guards and give out a mandate. Then he locked himself in his office and made one phone call after another.
The old master and the rest of the family were confused to see the children returning, one after the other. It was mind boggling because Ringo never returned home unless he was forced to and the triplets would rather be anywhere but here around boring old people. So what were they all doing here?
The old madam was just happy to see all of her grandchildren showing up at home voluntarily. After promising to move in when Muyang returned, they had yet to fulfil the promise. She was particularly insistent on talking to Ringo. She hated calling him that awful nickname but if you called his real name, he simply refused to answer.
"Ringo, stop drinking and talk to me, are you seeing anyone? She asked curiously.
Ringo buried his nose in his whiskey glass and snorted.
"If you are not seeing anyone, Weili works in Chi-Chi’s entertainment company. There are so many pretty girls. I am sure your mother can set you up with any of them if you are interested."
Ringo turned away from his grandmother and downed the whiskey in one shot. He used the empty glass as an excuse to get away from the meddling old madam.
When he had been her target, the triplets were giggling. Now that he was gone, she turned her attention to them and they froze like cornered animals.
"Why isn’t Muyang coming, we need to get out of here." One of them whispered.
"I am not waiting for Muyang, I am making a run for the door right now." the one in the middle said desperately. All of them looked at the door as if it was the entrance to heaven and they were in hell. Their grandmother was gaining on them like a tiger on the hunt.
"Don’t you dare run." She warned them when she saw their restless legs trying to move.
Lucky for them, Muyang saved the day by coming downstairs and they latched on to him like pups suckling milk from their mother.
"Elder brother, it’s so good to see you." The oldest one said happily. "You don’t know how much we have missed you." He claimed happily.
"Muyang, why have you declared a family mandate?" his grandfather asked loudly and all the family members looked at Muyang quizzically. A family mandate meant that all of their secret spies and guards had to pause whatever they were working on and carry out new urgent orders.
The family mandate was only declared only in the most urgent of situations. These were usually life and death situations.
"I have some news." Muyang said gravelly, "It’s not good."
A feeling of dread swept over the Jun family members. Even the chairman who was sitting in the corner pretending to reading newspapers suddenly paid attention.
"What is going on?" the old master asked. All sorts of horrible scenarios were running through their minds, was someone dead? Was their family under attack? What could it be?
Muyang poured himself a glass of whiskey, sat down in a chair and drunk it all in one shot.
"I have a child." He said.
Everyone was confused. Was this news? Everyone knew that he had a child; they already met Mei-Mei and loved her.
"Muyang, are you sober?" one of the triplets asked.
Ignoring that question, he said, "I have a son."
"What?" the old master shouted in shock, "What do you mean, explain yourself?"
"Yes, Muyang explain." His mother emphasized angrily. "A son from where? Did you cheat on Chi-Chi, how could you?" she jumped to her own conclusions immediately.
"You cheated!!!! Muyang, how dare you?" The old madam asked furiously. They all loved Chi Lian and approved of her as their future daughter in law. How betrayed would she feel if this news landed in her ears?
"I didn’t cheat, all of you should stop jumping to wild conclusions and wait for me to explain."
"That’s because you are lugging around, stop dawdling with your words and come out with it." His grandfather mumbled.
"Mei-Mei has a twin brother." He partly struggled with the truth which he was still digesting himself.
This declaration was met with different reactions all around. His brothers were stunned speechless and they looked at him excitedly. They were probably celebrating the fact that the pressure on them to get married would now be reduced greatly since the family had an heir.
His father....well he didn’t care how his father was digesting the news.
"Really," his mother looked at him happily, "This is good news, where is he and why haven’t we met him yet?"
"Oh the heavens be praised." The old madam looked in the direction of the Buddha statue in the house. "Where is the child?"
"Ancestors we have an heir to the family, how wonderful. I have not let you down." The old master said with relief. "We should quickly bring him to worship the ancestors and add him to family genealogy. He cannot be raised outside the house, Muyang you need to marry Chi-Chi as soon as possible to give the children legal status."
When he observed Muyang while waiting for a response after saying this, he noticed that he had a pained look on his face.
"What happened?" the old master asked. "Is this related to the mandate?"
Muyang told them the only believable story he could make up about what happened. "Because she went alone to the hospital, Chi-Chi’s doctor lied to her for months, she gave birth to twins and he didn’t tell her about it. He sold the baby to doctor Ouyang who gave the child to a female colleague of his.
I have people searching but they have failed to find where that woman is hiding. My biggest fear is that recently when I dug into the malpractice of the military lab, I found out that Ouyang was pushing for trials on human children with a genius gene. Right now, I am afraid that Ouyang did not give up on his ambitions even after the military rejected his proposal. I think that lunatic went ahead with his trials in secret and he has my son locked up in a lab somewhere doing all sorts of experiments on him."
He smashed the whiskey glass in his hands against the table which cut his hand.
"Muyang," his mother ran to him and caught his hand. "We will find him, don’t harm yourself please. I am sure Chi-Chi is just as heartbroken as we all are right now, you need to be strong for her and Mei-Mei. Don’t harm yourself please."
The old madam was crying in her seat, she could not believe that such an outrageous pitfall had happened to their family. What had they done for such evil to befall them? Her husband was doing his best to console her but she was simply inconsolable.
"Yes, we are going to find my great-grandson, I am going to use all my connections for this." The old master declared. "Give me the name of the woman you are looking for and everything that you have. I also want the name and address of Chi-Chi’s doctor; such a person does not need to be handled by the police. We should handle the problem internally."
Muyang gave out all the details that he had so far to everyone and they formulated a plan. The entire Jun family was united; the entire empire would be turned upside down to find their missing child.
