Chapter 154: The Aoi organization

She watched the little hope in the girl’s eyes die out like the last dying embers in a fire place. But she had had to be upfront with her. She was not in the habit of taking in useless people, if the girl was nothing but another mouth to feed and body to protect, then all she was doing was adding to her workload.

"Ha-ha," the girl laughed hopelessly, "I don’t know what I was thinking. Why else would you want me if not for me to do your dirty work." She said, her voice laced with bitter sarcasm.

"That’s where you are wrong. I don’t want to take you in as an assassin but that doesn’t mean I want you take you in so that you sit and fold your hands when my enemies come for me. If you are not willing to kill to protect me or yourself then why should I take you in? Your eyes are hopeless, as if you have given up on life. It is a hopeless endeavor, saving someone who is not willing to be saved." She told the girl. "I will only take you in if you are willing to use those skills to defend me, my family and yourself."

"Really!" the girl looked at her hopefully once more. "Are you really willing to take me in without me having to kill all the time for you?"

"Yes." She assured the girl. "You have skills, you can train others_"

She found herself suddenly crushed under the full weight of the girl in a tight gripping hug.

"I accept, I will work for you." The girl shouted joyfully.

"Host, the two of you are forgetting her previous employer, is that person willing to let her go or is she a freelancer?"

Chi Lian pulled her body out from under the girl and took a deep breath. "You, who did you, work for previously?"

The girl sat up and clenched her fists. Angrily, she said, "For myself to take down the Aoi organization."

To Chi Lian, it seemed as if there was a story behind that anger. Now was probably not the time to ask her about it. But she needed to make sure that having this girl work for her would not bring blow back on her and her loved ones. "T4, check and be very careful not to leave any traces behind that can be tracked back to us."

She turned her attention back to the girl who was lost in her thoughts. "Are they behind the assassination attempt on the mad genius?" she asked curiously.

"Yes, they are very bad people. The worst trash on earth." She declared. "They take children under the guise of adoptions and train them to be assassins. They took my brother and when he returned_" she suddenly broke down and cried.

"Hey, don’t cry." Chi Lian comforted the girl by rubbing her back. "Tell me slowly, I will help you if I can."

The girl cried for a while before calming down after Chi Lian handed a lollipop and told her she was just like a toddler.

"Have you ever seen this symbol?" she showed Chi Lian a logo on her phone of two hands holding a small green bird. "This is the symbol of the Aoi organization; it’s a charity organization in the empire which has been in existence for so many years. They do a lot of charity work like feeding the homeless, taking care of orphans, sponsoring scholarships for the less privileged children and donating to the police and military. On the outside, it’s a heaven sent organization.

But those people are very evil, when I was ten years old; I lived in an orphanage in Surim city. We used to hear stories about the Aoi organization taking children and finding parents for them. These parents would be wealthy so whoever was picked was guaranteed to live a good life. It became the dream of every orphan, to be the child picked by Aoi organization. It was like winning the lottery.

In the orphanage where I grew up, the children were like siblings. Most of us had been picked from the streets or abandoned at its gates so we were all we had. We looked out for each other especially our senior brother he was only fifteen but he was like a father to us all so when he was chosen, we rejoiced. We thought at least one of us had a chance to make it in life. In the beginning, senior brother used to send letters, telling us about his new life in this wonderful home with a white fence and a dog. He promised to return and visit so we waited but he never came.

Three months later the letters stopped and another child was taken. It was the same, letters would come for a while and then stop then another child would be taken. The cycle would be repeated over and over. Eventually the child who was taken would not send any letter at all.

When I was fifteen, our senior brother returned one night, with old and new scars all over his body, bleeding from gunshot wounds. He said it was a lie and we should run. We knew then that none of the children who had been taken went to happy homes. It was a lie fabricated by the Aoi organization to gain easy access to orphans. We did our best to save senior brother but he is still in a coma, his body is corroded with poison and everyday he takes one step closer to death.

The principal was worried that someone would come looking for him so we faked his death and cremated a fake body but those people did not stop looking for senior brother. Suspicious looking individuals’ started hanging around the orphanage, we were afraid. The principal of the orphanage closed it down and we all went into hiding to gather strength to find out what happened to the children and who wanted senior brother dead."

She looked at Chi Lian with heavy eyes and said, "Now you know my story, are you still willing to take me in?"

"I am not just willing, I am determined." Chi Lian replied confidently.

"I don’t come alone, there are about thirty of us in total. And if we rescue our siblings who were taken, there will be more. Are you willing to take all of us in? It’s a package deal, one for all." The girl said as she stared into her eyes intensely.
