Chapter 155: A massive recruitment
The trumpets were blowing loudly in victory in her mind. T4 was actually playing real trumpet sounds to jubilate the pie that had just fallen in her hands effortlessly. Here she was, looking for a way to build her own force and this girl was offering her a whole small army.
"Host, army is an exaggeration. We don’t even know if they are skilled. They could be nothing but additional burdens."
She asked the girl, "Are they as skilled as you and will they will be willing to come and work for me?"
The girl nodded her head eagerly, "Everyone is skilled, for the last few years, we have been training hard in different fields to infiltrate the Aoi organization. Don’t worry about them accepting to work for you, I will convince them." She said confidently. Her eager gaze assuring Chi Lian that she could be trusted.
Chi Lian knew that one did not trap mice without some good cheese. If her siblings were as skilled as her they would not easily be convinced to join her camp unless she had something valuable to offer. And she did have something they were all desperate for. "In that case, tell your siblings, that if they accept to work for me, I will save your senior brother’s life." She said.
"What?" the girl screamed.
"Yes, I have a cure that I can guarantee will give your senior brother a second lease on life." She assured the girl.
The girl’s hands trembled in excitement. "Really, really senior brother can be saved." She mumbled in a whisper before exploding in a loud broken hearted cry.
"Why are you crying again?" Chi Lian asked her.
"Senior brother, boohooooooooo....."She continued to cry with her tiny shoulders shaking and her chest heaving endlessly. She cried so hard that eventually when she stopped her eyes were extremely red and puffy.
"Are you all cried out now?" Chi Lian asked.
The girl nodded and blew her nose into a tissue. "I will go and tell the others immediately." She picked up her phone and prepared to leave.
"Wait," Chi Lian stopped her. "What’s your name?" She realized that she was still referring to her as the girl in her mind.
"Kiki," she replied shyly.
"Eh." Chi Lian was lost. What kind of name was that? "Is that what everyone calls you?"
"Yes."
"Well, uhm, Kiki, if you come to an agreement with your siblings contact me on this number and I will send you an address where to meet me." She handed the girl with her number. "By the way, are you sure that the Aoi organization is the one which wanted the mad genius dead?" she asked again just to be one hundred percent sure before she passed the information along.
"Yes, I assume so because they put out a hit on their shooter as a fail-safe on the dark web. Of course they didn’t advertise it but one of my junior brothers is a hacker, he traced the hit back to them. That’s why I took on the mission; I was auditioning for them indirectly. I thought if I was successful, they would try to recruit me."
Chi Lian could not believe the bravery or blatant foolishness of Kiki. From the little she had narrated about the Aoi organization so far it did not sound like it was a simple organization to infiltrate, escape or investigate. One needed money, power and connections to deal with them. She would definitely pass this little tidbit about them being behind the assassination plot to minister Su after all by taking in Kiki and her siblings; she was making that organization her enemy indirectly. It would help if the empire considered it an eye sore as well.
"Host, some people are here. Three men armed and well-coordinated."
"Let’s go." She told Kiki. "Put this on." She handed her the yellow jacket and disguised her as a delivery girl.
It probably wasn’t a coincidence that a group of armed men would show up in the same hotel where Kiki was. There was a ninety percent chance that they were here for her.
"Host, I have tapped into their communication and I think they are soldiers."
Chi Lian paused her finger slightly before pushing the elevator button; if they were soldiers then they were not here to kill Kiki. Could they be here to arrest her?
"Let’s use the stairs." She told the girl. "One should always every opportunity to keep the body fit and healthy." She claimed.
Thankfully the girl did not question any of her orders. Now that Kiki had decided to follow Chi Lian, her word was the law to the girl.
They made their way to the lobby and exited the hotel, narrowly managing to avoid the soldiers who were dressed in plain clothes.
Outside, just before bidding the girl goodbye, she took advantage of her absentmindedness to pinch her cheeks one more time.
"Why did you choose to follow me by the way?" she asked Kiki.
"Easy," Kiki shrugged, "It’s because you found me, I wore a mask when I took that shot and I travelled under a false identity. Only someone more powerful than any of my siblings could have the means to track me down. You also matched me in a one on one fight and you have a gun." Kiki intelligently broke down the things she had figured out about Chi Lian so far. She was even counting each point off on her fingers. "You seem to be connected to the military because you were protecting the mad genius. Overall, you are probably a powerful or well-connected person. Following you will be our benefit."
Kiki did not even know that she had predicted the future for herself and her siblings in that moment. Following Chi Lian would be the greatest decision she had ever made for all their sakes.
In the hotel, the soldiers finally located the room where the suspect they were looking for was. The room once they entered it was trashed. It was obvious that there had been a struggle here and the suspect was gone.
One of the soldiers made a call and in a car that was making its way into the Emperor’s court, someone picked up. The person briefly listened and turned around.
"Young master, the suspect is gone." The person said to a man in the back seat after hanging up.
"Hmm." The young master who was none other than Jun Muyang replied.
