Chapter 145: Muyang’s decision
"Great, I will start making the arrangements for your accommodation in the Emperor’s courts immediately." The minister squirreled away so fast before she could change her mind. The Emperor’s courts was a large estate where the most powerful, prestigious and protected families lived. One did not get to live there because of wealth, one earned their way into the Emperor’s courts by contributing greatly to the empire.
Turning to look at Muyang, she smiled contently. "Do you think it’s the right decision?" She genuinely wanted to know his opinion.
"I support it. To be honest, the elders and I have discussed it before but we had no way of approaching the subject with your family. My time in this city has always been temporary so eventually I hoped I would be able to convince you to move to the capital with me but I know you would never leave your family behind so I have been holding off on broaching the topic. It’s also good for us all security wise. In the capital, our home is surrounded by dozens of guards, no one can come easily and out the way that crazy woman who almost killed our daughter did. The schools there are great and the connections are the best in the empire. In my opinion, there is no loss incurred by you moving to the capital." He stated some of the benefits of moving to the capital.
"In that case, let’s go and tell the whole family the good news." She slipped her hand into his and together they went to meet the rest of the family where they were sitting.
Chi Zimo was the first to see them and he waved happily. "You guys missed the movie." He said. "Its super awesome, I am going to watch it again with my friends next week."
"Where have you been?" the old master asked.
Chi Wei looked at their united hands unhappily before looking away and sipping some soda.
"Well, we have some news." Chi Lian announced.
The old madam, He Weili and the Chi parents looked at the united hands and their eyes glimmered with hope. Was this the moment they had all been waiting for?
"Wait for me to get my camera." He Weili jumped up eagerly.
"Mother, sit down." Muyang looked at her and shook her head.
"Sooo.....out with it already." The old madam told them impatiently. Her entire body was vibrating with excitement. A December wedding she thought, It would be a December wedding.
"We are moving to the capital." Chi Lian blurted it out.
The audience did not react the way she was expecting. Everyone was staring at them with annoyance on their faces.
"What?" she asked. "Isn’t this good news?"
"Of course its good news, our entire family is moving to the capital. Why wouldn’t this be good news?" Muyang looked at all the people in the room expectantly.
"Hmmm, its good news." The old master said dryly.
"Yes, very good news." He Weili said in a dull tone.
Chi Lian was confused. What was wrong with them? Who did not want to live in the capital?
"Mother, father, why don’t you seem to be happy, are you sad about leaving your friends behind?" she asked her parents. As far as she knew, they did not have many friends in the city and according to her memories of the old Chi Lian, her father had always dreamed of living in the capital. So what was with the less than expected excitement?
"N...no, Chi-Chi it’s not that. We were just expecting a different kind of announcement." Her father replied.
"What announcement?" she asked.
"Uhm, something related to family expansion but moving to the capital is also an expansion I guess. Why are we moving by the way?" he asked.
Chi Lian struggled with the answer to give them. Should she tell them that her reckless actions had brought danger knocking on their doors or because it was a good move business wise.
"The empire has made her an offer she could not resist. A residence in Emperor’s court. If you add the building royal grandmother and grandfather gifted her, then you can see how valuable moving is. It’s a good move business wise." Muyang answered for her. "And we also need to have Mei-Mei worship the ancestors and add her to the genealogy as soon as possible." He added.
"That’s right, Mei-Mei needs to worship the ancestors." The old madam was suddenly onboard.
Tightening his grip on her hand, Muyang made another sudden announcement, "Soon we will be engaged and where else better to hold the engagement party other than our ancestral home."
"What?" He Weili the plate of food she was holding.
"Muyang, did you propose?" the old madam asked.
Chi Lian looked at him with baffled eyes. He did not propose to her so where was this talk of an engagement coming from?
"Muyang_" she tugged at his hand.
"I have not yet proposed but we are heading in that direction. Chi-Chi is the only woman I will ever wed in my life." He declared.
"Oh my gosh." Chi Zimo pulled out his phone to record the moment but it had already passed.
Looking at Mama Chi and Papa Chi, he said, "I am very sorry for acting ignorantly before, I did not seek your permission before inserting myself into your lives. I promise that I will re-instate your daughter’s honor. Here in the presence of my family I am promising you that I will wed your daughter."
He looked at Wenzhe who brought forward a document which was handed to Papa Chi.
"This is my betrothal gift." He said seriously. "Chi-Chi has already given me a precious daughter; it’s only fair that I compensate her for her extraordinary gift which has changed my life."
The document was for the transfer of ten percent shares of Jun investments to Chi Lian. This betrothal gift was worth hundreds of millions. They could not accept it.
"M....Muyang." Papa Chi said nervously, "This, this_"
"This is just the beginning, I will offer her more as time goes on." He vowed. "I promise to protect and love her for the rest of my life." He said solemnly.
"Oh my gosh." He Weili looked at her son with disbelief. They had been waiting for him to make one small move but he had gone all out, giving out shares as if they were sweets. He must really be crazy in love with Chi-Chi.
Chi Lian was blushing to the side and trying to pull her hand out of his. Did he have to do this so publicly? Was his declaration of love real since he had not said it directly to her?
