Chapter 144: Lets do it.

With adrenaline pumping and a racing heart, she told Muyang, "We need to get down now."

"No," Muyang held her back tightly. "We could get hit if we move suddenly; we need to find out where the shooter is aiming from first."

He was not willing to watch her get her head blown off carelessly. They needed to be careful and deceptively calculative to escape.

"Host, there is no movement; you have twenty seconds to hit the ground and escape from your current position."

Suddenly she remembered the umbrella. She had received a bullet proof umbrella which she had never used.

"No time." She said and jumped down, pulling him along with her. While she landed smoothly on the ground, Muyang landed on his back. Her reason for doing this was to ensure that he did not notice that she had magically conjured up an umbrella out of thin air.

"Come on, let’s go." She helped him up and popped the umbrella open. Hopefully, this would be enough to protect them until they disappeared into the crowd.

Muyang took the lead by swiftly pulling her into the shadows, taking care to avoid all the brightly lit areas especially when more fireworks were set off. It was a short distance of less than five minutes to their tent but somehow, with all the hiding and sneaking around, it felt like an hour or more was the time it took for them to get to safety.

When they were safely hidden away inside of the tent, Muyang grabbed her shoulders and embraced her tightly. His heart was beating so fast and his entire body was tense. She knew why he was scared, honestly she was scared too. That shot had come too close to be dismissed easily. One of them could have died.

"Don’t ever scare me like that again." He said roughly.

"I won’t." She promised as she held on to him tightly. Hers wasn’t the only life in danger tonight, his had been too. The bullet that missed her could just as easily have hit him. It would have been her fault if he died. Her heart felt heavy, her eyes welled up and she willed the tears to go back but failed. A drop or two made their way down her cheeks.

"We are okay." Muyang comforted her once he felt the wetness on his shirt right around where her eyes were positioned. "We are okay." He repeated.

"I....I almost got you killed." She wailed suddenly and hiccupped. "I am sorry."

"You didn’t get me killed in fact you saved someone’s life today. A very important asset at that, the empire owes you a debt."

"I don’t care about the empire, I care about you." She cried softly and pounded her fist lightly on his chest. "What would Mei-Mei and I do without you?" she asked bitterly.

He had become a constant in their lives. When they woke up in the morning he was there, when they went to bed at night, he was there, when they were having dinner he was there. At this point in her life he was everywhere she looked. She did not have to worry about the empire being too excessive with their demands of her because he was there. Her life was exciting and beautiful because of him.

"Muyang, don’t ever follow me into a dangerous situation again." She said decisively.

He raised his left eyebrow unhappily, "Don’t you mean you will not go running blindly into dangerous situations again?"

"It goes hand in hand with my job, sometimes I have no choice." She answered as she looked down at the floor of the tent feeling very guilty.

"It doesn’t always have to be you." He caressed her hand. "You can send someone else to meet your sources or you can allow the military and police to do their job."

"But_"

"No, no buts Chi-Chi. I won’t lose you." He said in anguish and roughly embraced her again. "No losing you." He repeated.

Perhaps her brother was right after all, she needed another reminder to be less carefree with herself. She needed a constant reminder that someone was waiting for her at home so that she didn’t blindly insert herself in dangerous situations unnecessarily.

"Chi-Chi, my angel_" he started.

"Hey, come out." Minister Su’s voice interrupted what he was going to say next.

Reluctantly, they stepped out of the much needed long embrace and exited the tent.

"Are you both okay?" the minister asked anxiously.

"Yes, we are okay." Muyang replied for both of them. "But this was a close call, I don’t like it, the shot was too close for comfort." He said gravely.

"I know." Minister Su touched his front pocket and brought out a cigarette and put it in his mouth. Before he could light it, Muyang pulled it out of his mouth.

"Don’t, you will infect the air."

"I am nervous, I need it." Minister Su reached into his pocket for another one.

Muyang touched his arm and shook his head. "Not here, I don’t want your passive smoke to harm my woman."

"Huh." The minister was surprised. Who knew that Muyang could be obsessively protective over a woman? What was wrong with a little smoke? The minister looked at Chi Lian and said, "I think you should move to the capital."

"What?" she asked in shock. Why was he making such a random suggestion?

"It’s for your own protection. Sooner or later, your name will come up somewhere as a contributor to the downfall of so many criminal plots and someone will be gunning for your head. Not just you, this involves your family as well. If they can’t get to you, they will aim for them. You should also know that while this technology you are exhibiting is minor to you, to others it’s a mega billion business and they will try to get their hands on it one way or another. In the capital, we can protect you better." The minister looked at her with a serious expression and determination in his eyes.

Chi Lian considered his words seriously and she knew that he was right. She was not strong enough to protect her family yet. Moving to the capital did not seem like such a bad idea after all. She had a thirty story building which could be turned into Phoenix headquarters immediately.

The universities in the capital were all super prestigious schools so Chi Zimo could receive better education. Her other brothers would not be bothered by the move after all wherever the business is, they could work. Ninety percent of the celebrities in the empire were based in the capital so the peep star would thrive better in such a crowded city with a vibrant night life. Most importantly, her family would be safe until she built her own force.

"Host, What about Muyang?" T4 asked.

"Muyang, if I decide to move to the capital what about us?" she looked at him worriedly.

"Tsk, have you forgotten that my family hails from the capital? I came to this city to avoid my father but for you, for our family, I can move back."

"I will do it." She told the minister.

"Congratulations host, we have leveled up, the mall is open for business."
