Chapter 599: Cricket, cricket.

Scarlet twisted her lips, smiling wryly. If Emory wanted to speak the truth and assert her opinion then she could do the same. So, she looked at Emory and asked, "If you are such a great mother then why don’t your children get along with you? Why don’t they love you in abundance?

I have never seen them hug or express any affection for you. Oh wait, I know. It’s because you taught them to be cold like fish, like you. You turned them into emotionally constipated people.

When I come home, my son greets me with a smile and he hugs me.

When I am not home we talk on phone, every single day.

Tell me, oh great mother Emory when was the last time you heard from Emily, Elon or Esong for that matter?

You may have raised a great mecha king but even that cannot be attributed to you. He got to where he is through his own efforts. It’s not as if you attended class with him or trained him personally. Last time I checked, you were not combat certified or a mecha warrior. You are simple plain Emory, unemployed wife of a minister.

Criticize me on other things but not my raising of my son.

If you still have energy to raise another child, have your own."

She stormed out of the room, leaving behind a shocked and stuttering Emily whose words were suddenly stuck in her throat.

Scarlet controlled herself, and controlled her rage, hoping that she didn’t glow or explode at any moment.

She didn’t even bother to take an elevator up but teleported herself to the roof of the castle directly.

She was lucky that Justin and Esong had their backs to her so they didn’t see her appear out of air.

They were sitting in the tent which was hers and Esong’s private hide out. Sometimes he called it their love shack. It was where they came when they wanted to make love under the stars.

It was wide open at the moment and father and son were sitting face to face with their legs crossed.

It almost seemed as if he was teaching Justin to meditate but she couldn’t be sure. Slowly, she approached them and then sat down next to Justin. He had his eyes closed and he was humming, a Buddhist mantra is what it sounded to her ears.

"Your mum’s here." Esong said, without opening his eyes.

Justin on the other hand opened his and the moment he saw her, he uncrowded his feet and leaped into her arms.

"My darling," she rubbed his head and said softly. "Are you okay?" She sat him back down and asked.

He shook his head, telling her without opening his mouth.

She turned her eyes to Esong and asked, "Have you talked about anything?"

"I have explained some things to him and he understands that sometimes life is going to be messy but we don’t hide away and cry. We deal with it and move on. Justin however doesn’t want to talk about those feelings." He replied.

It sounded a little too complex for a boy of Justin’s age to handle. How could he understand the messiness of life? His puffy red eyes tore at her heart, causing her pain. He had been crying again, she could tell. All she wanted to do was make it all go away and yet it was a life lesson that was important for him as the child of a noble and royal family.

She had a bright idea suddenly. There was something she could do for him, as silly as it was. "Close your eyes, both of you."

Esong frowned, looking at her with doubt.

"Do it." She poked his bicep and insisted.

"Fine." He said, practically growling the word out.

Justin’s eyes were already closed, sealed so tightly that his nose and lips were also scrunched.

She waved her hands and created green fireflies and crickets using her flames. The little life like creatures flew all around them and the crickets chirped. She had been taking lessons when Lythia used her powers to create all sorts of creatures. It was not difficult to do, the only difference was life in them. Hers would have a shorter life span compared to Lythia’s.

"Open them now." She said.

She watched Justin’s eyes, waiting for the spark of excitement to light up in them and when she saw it, her heart warmed up.

"Wow, mommy what is this?" His eager small voice asked.

"Crickets." She answered. "They are the ones making that sound."

Justin was excited immediately started attempting to catch them, calling them cricket over and over.

"Wow, look mommy, look, I caught one." He called her.

She grabbed him by the arm and sat him down on her laps. He was antsy, anxious to get back to running after the pretty green crickets. He had seen fireflies before so they didn’t excite him as much as the crickets.

"Baby, listen to mommy first." She told him.

He nodded like a little adult and looked at her.

"Baby, a long time ago, mommy heard this poem from someone.

"The cricket and I had a chat on the grass.

Cricket, cricket, cricket, cricket.

We promised to keep our chat a secret between the two of us.

Cricket, cricket, cricket, cricket.

The cricket and I chatted under the bright moonlight."

Justin looked at Scarlet, confusion in his eyes for he had no idea what the poem meant.

"Baby, these are special crickets. They are good at listening and keeping secrets. You can go somewhere where your daddy and I won’t hear you and you can tell the crickets anything you want.

Tell them how you feel about Koko and anything your grandmother said. Tell them anything you want and they will fly away with your secrets."

She got him onto his feet and encouraged him to go and talk to the crickets. As he did as she told him to, she wondered if he was going to share his feelings with the crickets or simply enjoyed the green lights following after him.

He disappeared behind one of the sharp pillars but Scarlet could still see the green light emitted from the crickets so she knew he was safe.

All along, her attention was on Justin that she didn’t look at Esong and now she could. He was already looking at her. In fact, he had not peeled his eyes away from her for a single second.

"What?" She asked him.

"Crickets, really?" He said with twitching lips that were seeking seconds away from rambunctious laughter.

"He has to talk about it. If he won’t do it with us then he might as well talk to them." She shrugged.

He laughed and shook his head. "You are one unbelievable woman. You created crickets out of thin air for our son to air out his grievances. You should be mother of the year."

"Your mother would disagree." She replied.

"My mother seeks nothing but glory. She lives for the motto of our house, glory and valour. Whatever she says to you, discard it because it doesn’t matter."

He put a hand on her cheek and smiled softly. The smile softened his features and eased her discomfort.

"I haven’t seen you in a while. I missed you bedazzling one."
