Chapter 568: Ugly green jealousy
In the blue city, miles away from the London castle, Esong and his men were awake but not working. They were having dinner while watching footage from the London castle. Specifically, the slumber party of the Su’s.
The footage was being relayed by a camera which was installed to keep an eye on the children during their sleep overs.
Esong had installed it without informing anyone so Scarlet was not aware of it’s presence. It was hiding inside one of the stars on the ceiling.
It was not Esong’s intention to watch the slumber party but when he mentioned the camera, Markay was very interested in seeing what his crown princess to be was up to. He didn’t admit it verbally but Esong could tell that Markay had been uneasy for a few days.
He was calmer today but still restless. So, Esong figured it was harmless to keep an eye on their women.
Not everyone was interested in watching the slumber party however, especially those who didn’t have a loved one in there.
"Why are we spying on your wife and her siblings?" Ian asked him.
He had just walked in with a platter of beef kebabs and he wanted to watch a mecha fight or a movie and not a sleep over.
"Because these two are jealous of their brothers-in-law." Cedric muttered.
"And I need to get some new dirt on Elroy." Jacks said.
"Nobody asked you a single question Jacks, we are asking about the two royal Wu’s here." Folsom said. He shook his head and added a personal opinion which he often thought but never said out loud. "I don’t care what anybody says about family bonds and what not. The Su’s are a dysfunctional family. A happy but highly dysfunctional family." he slammed his now empty can of beer on the table, and belched while he squashed it until it was flat.
Esong nodded his head and Jacks gasped exaggeratedly.
"You actually agree with him!!" he said in shock.
Folsom pointed to the screen and made a weird face. The siblings were dancing in an orderly manner. It looked like this was a routine they had practiced before. The smiles on their faces were bright and they all looked happy. "Look at them all, they are paired up like betrothed childhood sweethearts. They are too close, it’s weird."
"Don’t make it weird." Markey told him. "There is nothing abnormal about their body language. You can tell that they all love each other and are close but that’s it. There is nothing sexual or suspicious about it."
"Does it have to be sexual to be weird?" Folsom asked loudly.
"Yes." Four voices replied to him.
Folsom opened another can of beer. As he did, he mulled over a different thought. He looked at the others and said, "Maybe it’s because they are all natural born and most of us came from artificial wombs. I am not close to my sisters. We are cordial, not...." he pointed at the screen and said, "Whatever that is."
He had never held any of his sister’s hands when they danced. It was something you saw in commoners. Noble children were raised differently. Boys and girls kept a distance after a certain age, it didn’t matter if they were siblings.
This was done to ensure that respectable matches were made without scandals or hideous pasts to cover up.
Markey told Folsom, "It’s not their fault if you are not close to your sisters. My father is tight with all his daughters. It’s why the third princess is the way she is."
"What about the compulsory family breakfasts and temple visits on the weekend. Do they have to move as a group? No family needs to be that close or eat together that often!!!!" Folsom argued.
"Okay now you are just speaking crazy. What the hell is wrong with that?" Ian asked him.
Folsom could tell that this was not argument he would be winning so he moved on from it and decided to focus his appetites on the beef kebabs. His opinion however, would never be changed. The Su’s had a weird family dynamic and they were passing it on to the younger generation.
He shook his head as he watched Halley and Gregor dance while holding each other’s hands and swinging them from side to side.
He put down the beef kebab stick and said, "Tell me something you two Wu’s. Do you plan to raise your children in the Su family ways or the Wu family ways."
All eyes turned to Esong and Markey who were sitting next to each other. They were the two men named Wu in the entire group.
Folsom was not finished and he added, "I mean, what if you and Scarlet have a daughter in future. Will you let her and Justin be as close as Scarlet and Adler?"
Esong leaned back against his chair and tipped it back and forth slowly as if it was a rocking chair. He used his mental strength to maintain the balance to prevent himself from falling.
As he did that, he pondered on Folsom’s question. On one hand, he wasn’t very appreciative of Scarlet and Adler’s closeness as a husband who had been raised in the way most nobles raised their children. Emotionally suffocated, was what Scarlet called it.
But on the other hand, if he had a daughter, he was not against her having an overly protective brother who would keep away unwanted suitors and other types of threats. Suddenly, for the first time, Esong found himself torn on this subject and even gained an appreciation for Adler.
Markay beat Esong to the punch by responding first.
"I would go with no but Carolyn would skin me alive if I tried to impose the standard noble ways of raising children on any children we might have. We have both come to the agreement that they will be raised the Su way." he told them.
Captain Jacks whistled and said, "Damn, she has got you by the balls."
"Fuck you Jacks." Markay replied. He took it a step further by flipping him off.
Captain Jacks was very unbothered and he told Markay, "You have been spending way too much time around Elroy Su my friend."
Elroy flipped people off all the time. He did it at least six times a day. There was a hockey foam finger with a raised middle finger and his picture being sold in the empire.
"You talk way too much about that air headed boy." Folsom punched Jacks on the back for no reason and told him this.
Captain Jacks clenched his jaw and decided to drink his beer. Ian and Cedric giggled and he glared at them.
Folsom meanwhile still wanted a clear answer from Esong. "Tell us brother, the Su way or the Wu way?"
Esong sighed and blurted out at once, "Su."
It was no surprise to the others that this was his choice. At the end of the day, they were mecha warriors who spent more time away from home than anyone else. The women had to raise the children in their absence so Scarlet would be raising any children they had in the manner which pleased her.
"Oh-ho-hooooo," Jacks laughed loudly. "Another brother down. The balls have been surrendered and the royal family has been captured."
"I have never seen any of you holding the hands of your sisters. It’s surprising that you are choosing to do things in such an unusual manner. Will your parents and grandparents or great grand parents be okay with this?" Folsom presented himself as the cool headed one who could see that his friends were changing without even noticing.
