Chapter 569: Keepers of tradition
Chapter 569: Keepers of tradition
Folsom’s question was a heavy one that neither Esong nor Markay could provide an answer to. Both of them were sons of the same noble family. It was not just any common or average noble family but a royal one!!
They were the keepers of tradition, the ones who reproached and punished those that insulted their culture. So, how could they divert from it so much? Tradition was not something that was easily broken simply because one wished to.
Ian, Cedric and Jacks were not from noble families so this issue was of no importance to them. They could laugh and giggle but they would not understand.
On the surface, Folsom had presented the question lightly but it was a deeper issue than they all let on.
He raised his beer nonchalantly and said, "Yeah, I am pretty sure that my grandparents and parents will not stop Scarlet from doing as she wishes. My wife has made it more than clear that if they attempt in any way to influence Justin in any manner without her approval, she will cut them out of his life. So, they comment and contribute ideas when it comes to his education but everything else is a no go area."
Esong watched his wife and her siblings dance the waltz on the screen. They would twirl, rotate and switch partners.
All the siblings were smiling and they were happy. What was so wrong with raising children like this? They had grown up to be responsible happy adults. Maybe if noble families got rid of some old useless traditions, the empire would be a better place. There would certainly be less discrimination between them and the commoners.
Esong thought on the relationship between himself an his sister. They were as distant as the Blue star and Sun star. Even now, they were on the same planet and fifty percent of the time in the same castle. But, all they did was share greetings, updates on their parents, the situation at home and financial information.
If he had been raised differently then who knows? Maybe he would also have been a dotting brother like Adler.
He took a sip of his beer and pushed down his bitterness as he looked at the screen with envy. He could not help regretting the invisible things which had been denied to him as a child.
It was okay for Justin not to be raised like him. He did not want his son to be emotionally constipated, as his wife liked to put it.
He looked at Markay whose eyes were heavy in thought and slapped him twice on the back and consoled him.
"It’s okay, just do as you wish. You will be the next emperor of our great Sun star empire. Nobody should tell you how to raise your children apart from your wife. That’s the only person in the whose opinion matters the most."
Markey and Esong clinked their beers and smiled in a mutual agreement. Whatever Esong backed was what Markey would back as well, that was the nature of their close relationship because Esong always had Markey’s back.
Folsom watched the two silently in personal contemplation and crushed another now empty beer can. His instincts were screaming loudly that Markey’s rule would come with changes in the empire but how big would those changes be and who would they affect?
"What’s with the seriousness?" Ian asked.
Cedric changed the channel on the screen and put on the new terminator movie which had Ramslin in it. "I heard this was good, it has the pretty boy actor Esong dislikes." he said.
"I am prettier." Captain Jacks said arrogantly.
The others laughed and recalled that there was good food to eat, drinks and entertainment. The movie watered down the seriousness of the atmosphere and laughter and jokes returned to the table.
The siblings little dance party had another set of eyes that was peeping in. It was Dorian and Mega Su who wanted to make sure that the grown up siblings were not isolating the younger ones.
When they saw that all their children were getting along well, they smiled and closed the door carefully to avoid being heard or seen.
"I told you that they would be fine." Dorian told her.
"Is that why you turned me into the bad guy by having me send in the younger ones and yelling at them? Ho! Dorian Su, you are such a great father."
He was always, as Scarlet called it, the good cop and she, the bad one.
Dorian laughed and hugged his wife, wrapping his hands around her waist tightly.
"You have forgotten to add great husband, I am a great husband."
He smacked his lips on her cheek suddenly and loudly.
"Again," she said, and slapped his arms. "Why are you never mindful of the servants?"
"Which servants?" he asked her.
He turned his head from side to side. The few guards that were monitoring the hallway had conveniently looked away. Other than them, the hallway was pretty empty.
He let go of her waist and turned her around only to quickly grab it again and pull her close in a hug.
"Come on, dance with me." he said.
"I don’t want to, there is no music." she replied.
The guard who was closest to them took a few steps further away from them and rolled his eyes in judgement. The Lady Su was complaining about the lack of music but she was already swaying willingly.
"I can sing for you." Dorian told her and he twirled and dipped her.
He opened his mouth and broke into Scarlet’s version of the song called perfect.
"Darling I, will be loving you till we are two hundred seventy....tulululu, baby my heart will never grow old it’s ever green....tulululu."
Mega laughed as he spun her around. He sounded like a frog that had caught a cold.
"Oh my gosh, stop it. You are butchering your daughter’s song."
The song had been prepared by Scarlet for Carolyn and Markey’s first dance at the engagement. Dorian had swooped in and declared it his and Mega’s special song.
"I have a sexy voice, what are you talking about?" he responded.
"You are such a brazen man." she told him.
He slapped her on the butt and she squealed, then giggled silly.
"The guards are watching." she told him.
The guards pretended not to hear or see anything. It was not as if they had not had seen this kind of before. This was the most lovey dovey couple in the empire.
Dorian suddenly lifted her up, sweeping her off of her feet. "Alright, let’s go and dance in our wing. We can have our own private party."
They were giggling and laughing like a newly wed couple. Along the way, they passed by two maids.
One whispered to the other, "It’s a surprise that Lady Su is not pregnant year after year. They never keep their hands off each other."
The other maid giggled and stopped when they passed by the guards. Soon enough however, the entire castle was abuzz with the news that Baron and Baroness Su were at it again.
