Chapter 545: Talking is a must.
Chapter 545: Talking is a must.
Frost was teleporting through Nordem carefreely in search of the shard of strife. He was taking his time searching through the mountains where the boy whose image Scarlet was shared was last seen, according to a soul he reaped a day ago.
Norden was no longer dark, red was the color of it’s skies now. A suffocating red filled with heat that was suffocating the humans to death. This meant more souls to reap and the multiplication of soul eaters and evil souls.
Frost hated Nordem and he wanted the mission over with as fast as possible. The world had come to disgust him and if it was up to him, the entire world would be ended in one big explosion. If it wasn’t for the souls, the gods would probably end it that way too.
He came to the edge of a cliff and stood still. His eyes looked up at the red sky and he sighed.
His soul pet, a snow white arctic wolf was floating through the space beside him and it sighed as well. They had been at this task for at least six hours and they were beginning to get bored.
Frost looked at his silent wolf and said, "Mulley, it’s boring being on solo missions, isn’t it?"
"It stinks." the wolf answered.
It’s nose twitched a few times and it used one paw to scratch itself.
Another grim reaper teleported to the edge of the cliff and stood next to Frost.
"Hello Ezrah." he said, without looking to see who it was that had joined him.
The female reaper laughed and scratched Mulley who was more than happy to see her. The wolf was floating around her in circles.
"It was fun watching you pretend not to notice that I have been following you around everyday, every chance that I got." she answered.
"You are like a bug and I figured you would get tired and give up eventually." he told her.
He moved his hands around and twisted from side to side. "Look all you want but Scarlet’s husband is not meeting with me. I don’t have anything to talk about as pertains to him."
"Oh but I am afraid that talking in this case, is a must." A soft pearly voice said.
It came from above them and out of the space, a black hole formed and Lythia dropped out of it.
Frost glared at Ezrah before lowering his head and bowing before the goddess of darkness.
"I greet you, great shadow." he said in a respectful voice.
"Raise your head." Lythia commanded him.
Frost did as instructed and he took two steps back to avoid being inappropriately close to the goddess.
"May ask what you ask from me?" he asked.
Lythia raised her eyebrows, wondering if Frost was playing dumb even though she had made it quite clear what she wanted.
"Knowledge, young reaper. I need to know what you know about Scarlet’s human or not so human husband." Lythia replied.
Frost glared at Ezrah once again from beneath his eyes. He could not believe that she had gone and tattled on him to the goddess.
Lythia could tell that Frost was unhappy and unwilling to talk. She did not want any resentment between the friends so she decided to be open about her intentions.
"Don’t blame your friend for coming to me. She didn’t betray your friendship, she fulfilled her duties. I went to her when I saw how close she is to Scarlet and asked her to keep an eye on her and inform me if anything is out of place. It’s strictly for Scarlet’s protection. There are some things about your friend that I cannot share but all I am doing is trying to protect her."
Frost gulped and looked away from the goddess. He even folded his mouth physically as if he was he was expressing how unwilling he was to talk.
Lythia smiled mysteriously, closed her eyes for a second and when she opened them, they were pitch black. The sky above Nordem started becoming darker as well.
The goddess of darkness was pissed and tired of all the secrets. Whether Frost wanted to talk or not, she was going to pry what he knew out of him. "There is more at stake for the underworld than you think regarding this matter. You are a reaper under my guidance but you dare to defy me. To whom has your loyalty been granted?"
She spoke as one, but it sounded like a thousand voices, all speaking at the same time.
Frost and Ezrah fell to their knees, trembling at the display of power by Lythia.
"I am loyal to the three gods of the underworld, death, darkness and fire." Frost was quick to say.
"Then talk, I command you." Lythia belted out. "But stand up first." she said in a suddenly softer voice.
Both Frost and Ezrah looked up at her in confusion. Just a second ago she was frighteningly scary and now she was soft and gentle. Even though they were well versed in the dominating sides of the gods, it was still weird to see.
"Get up." Ezrah whispered to Frost.
They roused their bodies and stood up right. Mulley hid behind Frost, torn between returning to the safety of the underworld or staying with his reaper and the scary deity.
Lythia waved her hand and the wolf fell asleep.
Frost sent it into his soul gourd and gave Lythia an awkward smile.
"So, tell me about Esong Wu." she told him.
Frost looked at his hands and then held them together, wringing them nervously. "Well, it was two years ago, if I remember correctly, the seven armed demon had escaped it’s confines in the sealed mountain of bones."
"I recall that, the seven armed demon of chaos which is also known as the devourer of worlds escaped and destroyed three worlds before it was trapped and returned to the underworld." Lythia said. "The warrior reapers that went after it failed in their mission. They were rescued and returned to the underworld completely depleted. They are still sleeping beneath the rejuvenation pond to date. What does this have to do with Esong Wu?"
