Chapter 536: Personal vendetta

"You__," he pointed at Scarlet and sneered, "You are just like that behemoth of a husband that you married and I for one have always waited for the day when he would be taught a lesson or two. It is no surprise that he married a woman as uncouth as he is."

Scarlet folded her arms and smiled. She had managed to get another win over general Sang because now no matter how he approached this inquisition, it would be obvious that he had a grudge against Esong and her.

"I think you should sit down and calm yourself general. We have not even introduced to the governor the reason for our visit." Mosby in a very disapproving voice told general Sang.

"If you cannot be rational then we will be forced to exclude you from this fact finding exercise." Moss added.

To both of them, the general was very unprofessional and highly inappropriate. When they reported this matter back to the tribunal, they would be including his poor attitude, inappropriate behavior, disrespect of an authority figure and personal vendetta which he seemed to have left out when he was squeezing himself onto their team.

General Sang sat down, albeit unwillingly. Patience, he told himself. The opportunity to bring Scarlet down was coming. Just a few more minutes and he would get his turn.

Scarlet smirked, and the smile on her face broadened. The general had just experienced his first loss and I was only the first.

"So, how can I help you?" She turned her chair to face Moss.

General Sang raised his face and beamed as if his chance to shine had come. In an authoritative voice he said, "We have questions..."

"Director," Scarlet maintained eye contact with Moss and acted as if general Sang was not even present. "How can I help you, director?"

General Sang banged his hands on the chair but Scarlet did not give him the attention he desired. She did not even flinch the slightest bit. The man was nothing but a bully and she was an expert in handling bullies.

Mosby set up a small recording drone to record the inquisition. Everything that Scarlet said would be reviewed and dissected when they returned to the capital.

"We are here to discuss the sequence of events which led to your release of this young boy." Moss told her.

A picture of the young boy was presented to her, on a tab.

Scarlet did not have to look hard to recognize him. She simply gave the picture a once over and pushed it back.

"Young Caleb, I remember him. What do you want to know about him?"

"You can begin by telling us how you met him." Moss told.

Scarlet leaned back in her chair and nodded. That was pretty easy to do.

"I was looking into a case of the mysterious pricking of women in one of the malls back in the Blue city. I visited the mall with my dog and my guards to search for anything out of place. Back then, I wanted to apprehend the criminal personally." she replied.

"You are not a detective of the RGB. What right do you have to investigate?" general chimed in, uninvited.

Scarlet sealed her mouth and folded her arms across her chest. She stopped talking altogether and looked at her three guests with boredom on her face.

Mosby glared at general Sang and looked at Scarlet.

"Please continue."

Scarlet pointed at general Sang and said, "If he opens his mouth again I will not be answering any other questions."

"Then we will arrest you." General Sang slammed his hands on the armrests of the chair and bellowed out.

Scarlet brought her hands forward and looked at him with a smile on her lips, but mocked him with her eyes.

"Go on, put the cuffs on me. I dare you."

On the Sunstar, arresting a noble was a complicated affair. Arresting a member of the royal family on unproven claims was even more impossible. Those were matters which were handled very carefully.

And when it came to Scarlet, if they factored in her position as the Blue star’s governor all three aspects of power clashed into one big mess of strings which would not be easy to untangle.

Moss was really becoming more and more agitated with general Sang. The man couldn’t read a room or understand how inquisitions worked. How was he a general with command over an entire troop of mecha warriors?

"Nobody is arresting anyone." Mosby said loudly. "Governor, please continue. If the general interrupts again then we are permitted to exclude him by a common vote for the good of the inquisition."

Scarlet unfolded her arms and pushed her body closer to the table. Her eyes glistened and she looked at general Sang even more provocatively. The right side of her mouth moved upwards and she smirked.

"Good to know."

She had been a go ahead to poke him as much as she wanted. When they walked in earlier, it seemed as if he was the one in charge of the inquiry but apparently that was not the case.

"So, the mall, how did you locate the boy from the mall?" Moss asked her.

Scarlet pointed to the corner where Severus was. The dog was sleeping, or appeared to be sleeping.

"Severus located a sharp needle that had dry blood on it. It could have been nothing but we didn’t have anything at the time and the needle was something."

"That was smart, every clue at a crime scene cannot be dismissed." Mosby praised her.

Scarlet scratched the back of her neck and then run a hand through her hair. If they thought that they were being so smart that she would not catch on, they were horrible investigators then. This friendly attitude and praise did not fool her. They were not here as her friends, they were here to see if a crime had been committed.

She intended to hypnotize them of course, she wasn’t taking any chances.
