Chapter 509: Zorl cannot catch a break

In the middle of the night, while some citizens of the Sunstar were sleeping and others enjoyed their night out engaging in various fun activities, a popular gossip site released an article with an eye catching title.

[Food to be rationed on orders of the Blue star Lady governor Scarlet Su after tomato attack.]

Initially, it only received a few clicks but within an hour it spread like a virus and major news networks picked up.

They quoted a mysterious source and close family member in the governor’s family that had shared this news.

According to the mystery source, "Each family will get one tomato a day, seven a week. One onion, one clove of garlic and half a kilogram of rice. One bottle of milk per day, one loaf of bread every three days. All fruits and meats are to be exported and this was was just the top of the ice bag. Even tea leaves, coffee and chocolate are marked for total export, no domestic consumption."

Reporter Jelly was sleeping when the news broke sending all journalists and citizens into a frenzy.

She woke up groggily because her terminal and her phone would not stop ringing.

Agitated, she roused herself and threw Zorl’s hand off her stomach.

This woke him up and he sat up, yawning and rubbing his eyes.

"What’s wrong?" he asked her in a sleepy voice.

Jelly covered her mouth and yawned, then she stretched her arms with a small moan. She grabbed her phone with partially open eyes to see what was causing the noise.

"I don’t know."

It was a call from another reporter, one of her colleagues Vinod.

"There had better be another forest fire for you to be waking up at...." she looked at the time and winced. "It’s one-twenty Vinod. I swear I am going to kill you tomorrow."

Zorl stretched his arm and massaged the nape of her neck slowly.

Jelly took a deep breath and relaxed a bit.

"This had better be good." she said into the phone.

"Haven’t you seen the trending news? Wake up, shit is blowing through the roof. We have to get to work right now." The voice on the other side said urgently.

Jelly got her terminal to see what was trending. At the same time, Zorl’s terminal buzzed and an alert went off.

"Now what." he said

He was rather crabby because their peaceful sleep had been interrupted. But instinct told him that if a reporter was being woken up and then an RGB captain, something serious had to have occurred.

"Please don’t be related the crazy governing couple." he muttered before taking a look.

After the long day they had all had thanks to Scarlet and Esong he would take a murder case over dealing with them and their drama.

"Mmm, mass looting in multiple supermarkets." he mumbled. "What is going on?"

"I think I know." Jelly heard his mumbling and she showed him her terminal and the trending news.

All the top twenty trending topics were related to food, Scarlet and Esong.

"Oh great! It’s them again. I just can’t catch a break." he winced and threw the warm covers which were covering their bodies off.

Jelly and Zorl got dressed and each of them grabbed their gear. Downstairs, before entering their separate cars, they hugged and he kissed her lightly on the lips.

"See you in the field." she told him.

"I hope not." he answered with a smile.

They both laughed because it was clear that they were both heading in the same direction. One to stop the chaos and one to expose it to the world.

Morning came, and a hoard of reporters from every star gathered outside the tightly sealed castle gates. All exits and entrances were locked up.

A sign outside the gates had been put up saying the castle was closed even to tourists. The entire place was deserted with the exception of the mecha warriors who were manning the walls.

If any reporter attempted to enter the castle, they would end up in a hospital.

The quick ones were camped out at Justin’s school because it was common knowledge that the governing couple regularly took turns dropping off their son at the school personally.

RGB officers and GBCS officers had been dispatched to handle the children and keep the reporters out of school.

Despite all this, most parents and children that were dressed in a uniform similar to Justin’s were practically chased down as reporters yelled loud questions.

"Have you seen your fellow class mate Justin today?"

"Is young lord Justin Wu in class today?"

"Has Justin Wu told you that you will not be eating food anymore?"

This particular question was addressed to a young girl by a reporter that was firmly holding on to her bag.

The scared young girl burst into loud tears and a GBCS officer run over to interfere anf save her while an RGB officer arrested the reporter for assaulting the child.

Standing on the twentieth floor on the balcony of her office, Principal Stash had seen enough and she was disgusted. She pulled inspector Jam to the side and said harshly.

"Get rid of the reporters or we will be handling this my way. I will protect my students by all means necessary."

The inspector sighed and shook his head helplessly.

"The reporters have a right to do their job as long as they are not inside school grounds. We can only interfere if they make it inside or when they have close contact with the children like that one did."

Principal Stash huffed and walked away, leaving the inspector in her office.

She went in search of the school janitors and gardeners. When she found them, she asked them to go outside and tend to the flowers which surrounded the school walls.

"Keep the children on the buses for now." she told the teachers who were helping out outside the school.

Out there, the gardeners who were dressed up as if they were protecting their bodies from the rain pretended to be cutting flowers.

Suddenly, out from the ground and from holes in the walls, streams of water were forcefully released, drenching all of the reporters.

The gardeners picked up hand held sprinklers and sprayed the water all around, targeting those who were still dry.

Cursing and angry, most of them took off running away. One was heard yelling something about abuse of the freedom of speech.

Principal Stash who had returned to her office watched the reporters scatter with glee.

She returned to her desk and pressed a button. Then she opened her mouth and said, "For the rest of the day we will be doing spontaneous watering of the flowers. We might also be releasing sewage, some of the pipes are acting up today. Make sure that you do not become victim by staying far away from the school."

"Nice." Inspector Jam told her.

Principal Stash beamed like an old fox that knew all the tricks. They would not mess with the children on her watch.
