Soon all the cooking was finished and everyone could finally rest and eat.

Some like Carolyn and Fey were already eating. Even Scarlet had taken a bite of her fish.

"Are we eating in here or out there with them men?" Emory asked them.

"Here." Carolyn answered with a mouthful of fish.

She wanted to eat as comfortably as she could with legs raised up on another chair. How could sit in such an unruly way around Etienne Wu or Emmett Wu?

Moreover, she was rather enjoying eating with her hands and talking about frivolous topics. She was not in the mood to listen to talk about taxes, trade agreements, laws and the like. She listened to them all the time thanks to Markay.

It was okay to take a day off.

Gertrude brought Halley and Gregor over with Illa.

"Give her to me." Scarlet held her hands out for her sister.

Immediately, her nose dove into the baby’s neck and she took a big whiff of her scent. That baby smell was her personal drug of choice as usual.

She inhaled and sighed loudly. Her entire body relaxed and the tension in her body was released.

"Our food has arrived." The empress told them. "Now we can all eat together."

The women gathered around the table and Scarlet switched on the television. She wanted to watch the news of course and see what they were saying about her.

She sniffed Illa again and the baby giggled.

"Stop sniffing your sister. How many times do I have to tell you this? I swear, you don’t listen when I talk." Mega told her in a complaint voice.

"But she smells so nice." Scarlet whined and she took another sniff.

"I give up, do what you want." her mother said.

It was not as if Illa was being harmed by the sniffing. Halley however had learned from Scarlet the bad habit of sniffing Illa as well now.

Carolyn leaned over and dragged a small of dipping sauce to her side. "You know, if you want to sniff babies just have another child."

Cecily and Emory raised their heads quickly and looked at Scarlet with hopeful eyes. It was their biggest wish to grow their small family.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for ridicule by other nobles, Cecily would have told Emory to have another child. But if it was Scarlet, it would not be an issue if she did.

Just look at her mother, she was well on her way into one hundred and she was still having children.

"Maybe I will." Scarlet answered.

She was looking down in her plate and she didn’t she the smiles on the faces of the Wu women.

"Speaking of children, Caro dear, you and my son have been spending a lot of time together after the suns go down."

The moment the empress said this, Carolyn started coughing.

"Hot, hot, hot," she fanned her mouth.

Scarlet smiled cunningly and she said loudly, "I didn’t prepare anything spicy. What’s so hot sister?"

Carolyn blessed Scarlet with a warning glare. Shut up, her fiery eyes said.

The empress went on in the mean time. "It’s not like I have anything against grandchildren. I would very much like to have them but you are dating the next emperor. A bastard child will never have any hope of inheriting the throne even if it’s yours. Your head maid in waiting told me that you two are rather....err...active."

The other women giggled and Carolyn turned red in the face. This was so embarrassing, it was downright humiliating.

"Your highness." she hurriedly said.

"Is this why you moved out?" Mega asked Carolyn.

"Yeah sis, is this why you moved out?" Fey added her voice into the mix to Carolyn’s greatest ire.

"Stop teasing our sister. She moved out because she has a lot of responsibilities."

Scarlet’s voice that seemed to defend Carolyn made her feel grateful. That was until Scarlet opened her mouth and continued talking.

"Now if Markay just happened to buy the house next to hers, smash down the walls and make the entire floor their private love island, that is none of our business."

"Oh my God." Fey said dramatically and she guffawed.

"You are living together!" Mega exclaimed.

"Gee, thanks a lot Scarlet." Carolyn said sarcastically. "Perhaps we should invite Lord Etienne to eat with us."

She had been so tongue tied when Etienne was reading her the riot act but now she was all chatty and putting her business out there.

"I thought everyone here knew. Even Mina knows about this. As a matter of fact I heard about it from her."

The women at the table shook their heads apparently they had been clueless.

Scarlet genuinely experienced shock to learn that no one here knew that Markay and Carolyn were living together.

"Oh wow, you guys really didn’t know. Eh, but who cares? They are adults, their lives are theirs to manage."

Look at the person who started the fire putting it out, Carolyn thought.

On the television someone said something that stopped everyone from further teasing Carolyn.

It was that scholar Obley who had once courted the third princess for show.

"This is what happens happens when you allow a planet to be run like a sovereign state. How much control does the royal family have over the Blue star and it’s governors? General Esong Wu is practically untouchable because he is the mecha king.

His thunder death army runs around causing chaos all in the name of being the best and no one says a word because we are afraid they will not show up to protect us when mutated beasts come.

Now his wife is practically throwing her mental strength around in a manner intended to terrorize the commoners.

She has refused to grant noble families land on the Blue star and she dictates laws for our kind to follow when we live on the Blue star.

When was the last time nobles were slighted like this? This is the time for the emperor to step in and restrict her excesses."

Mega banged a fist on the table in anger. "Aah, this idiot, who gave him leeway to say such nuisance? My daughter was attacked? Wasn’t she supposed to defend herself? And what excesses is he talking about?"

"Does he even know what a sovereign state means?" Scarlet asked no one really.

She just said it out loud.

"Ooh, he should watch his mouth. Mecha warriors tend to stick together. Whatever crap he says about them, the price for his foolishness will be paid when winter comes." The empress spoke casually and she chuckled.

Secretly, she was among those who didn’t want that space crack to be closed. The longer it stayed open, the easier it was to get rid of the nonsensical families of the empire.

On television, the scholar continued his passionate rant to the great pleasure of the news anchor.

"We all know that she is a member of the royal family and she is going to get away with this display of ruthlessness. It was an ordinary tomato. She over reacted and she should apologize to the public. She should also explain how the innocent defenseless man was attacked by a mutated beast as the RGB is claiming. This was a targeted attack, it...."

Scarlet switched off the television, completely unbothered. It was better perhaps not to know what was being said to avoid being angered.

She turned her attention back to her sister.

"So, Caro, we still haven’t seen pictures of the dress for your engagement up to now. Is this dress dropping from heaven or what?"
