Chapter 499: Wrong weapon, wrong governor

As much as she searched, called out in her mind and waited for one of the three deities to respond, all was silent on that front. For the first time ever, the nosy deities actually denied her wish to talk.

Scarlet gave up and returned to the real world where she set off for the opening of Life line company.

Given the controversy surrounding the company, it was no surprise that the crowd of reporters which turned up was the biggest she had ever seen on the Blue star.

Also not surprising were the protestors who were loudly expressing their displeasure in the presence of the company on the Blue star.

Scarlet even saw members of the religious council in that crowd.

The RGB officers were doing their best to keep a tight control over the crowd, shoot to kill drones were circling the air and fire fighters were on stand by in case things went side ways.

Walking besides Scarlet through the path created for her by RGB officers, Severus looked at the crowd with amusement in his eyes. "They support the televised beheadings of other humans but this is where they draw the line. The humans are very interesting creatures."

Scarlet looked at the crowd of angry protestors and sighed. Most of them were probably parents or people that were devoted to religion.

They were wearing shirts with slogans, others had posters and others were projecting holograms from their shields. Some of the slogans on the shirts, posters and holograms included:

"Say no to filth."

"Dirty money is not needed here."

"Life Line is a life ender."

"Go to hell."

"Immorality is a sin."

Amazing however was that there was a crowd supporting Life line as well, with their own slogans.

"Three million jobs and counting."

"Life Line paid for my children’s schooling."

"If you hate Life line you hate fun."

"Good sex has never killed anyone."

"twenty two billion in taxes every year, how much do you pay before you protest?’"

The crowd was heated up and the reporters were loving it.

Scarlet made her way to the front of the three hundred thirty floor tall building and waved at the crowd.

It was not all protestors and supporters, there were citizens who had come just because they supported everything the governor did.

The CEO of the company and others whose worked for it shook Scarlet’s hands and bowed, and then she was given the space to speak.

"Great crowd, huh." she said.

She figured she should open with a joke.

Different reactions, as expected.

"I know that some of you are unhappy about the presence of Life line on the Blue star and no matter what I say to defend the company, I cannot change your minds so I will not try.

What I will say is that we are making progress. The Blue star, our home, has gone from an unloved planet to the planet on almost everyone’s migration wish list.

Companies like Life line are not investing here on a whim. They are doing so because we have built something great."

"And they want to destroy it." Someone in the crowd yelled.

She scratched her ear and blew out a short breath. It was just as she said, no matter what she said, the protestors did not care.

"Uhm, Life line is projected to provide three hundred jobs before the years ends. And after the construction of their factory, thousands more will follow."

Boooooooo

The protestors got louder.

Suddenly someone threw something out, and it headed straight for Scarlet.

Tion yelled , "Get down."

He leaped in front of her and placed himself in front of whatever it was.

He was like a secret service agent taking a bullet for a president.

Shoot to kill drones fired immediately, taking down whatever the unknown threat was. The crowd started screaming and some people started running.

Fear spread quickly among the masses, and just as the RGB and fire department had expected, the likelihood of a stampeded breaking out doubled.

"This is the first and only warning to the citizens, anyone that moves suddenly will be shot with an anesthetic. Stay in one place and those who wish to leave can do so in a calm manner on the orders of the officers."

A shoot to kill drone, looking down on the crowd announced.

All the drones armed themselves and pointed at the citizens.

One woman, in a heightened state of panic screamed and turned around. She fell down within two seconds, before she could even take two steps.

Everyone suddenly felt the need to stand still and calm down.

"Get the governor out of here." Tion yelled into the shield on his head.

Scarlet was dumbfounded and the reporters gleefully took pictures of her face.

Just as her guards surrounded her Scarlet raised her hand and stopped them.

"Move," she ordered sternly.

They did as she requested and Scarlet moved forward and she picked up what had remained of the unknown object, now identified by her as a tomatoe.

She looked out at the crowd with a heated look on her face.

"Who threw this?" she asked loudly.

Silence reigned.

"I said, who threw this tomatoe?" she repeated.

Her voice was cold and so was her demeanor. It caused those who were closest to her to shiver in fright. Whoever threw that tomatoe had picked the wrong governor.

"Blue shirt, second line." Severus told her.

Scarlet’s eyes quickly located the individual and she targeted him with her mental strength.

It was a sandy haired middle aged man that was trying to hide his face.

Scarlet held her hand out and lifted him up with her mental strength.

The crowd gasped, most of them at the same time. Exactly how strong was her mental strength? Also, how did she know that he was the one who threw something at her?

He floated in the air, struggling futilely against the invisible chokehold she had on his neck until he landed before her, on his knees.

Her guards drew their weapons on him immediately.

"Is it fun to waste food?" she asked sternly.

She held up what had remained of the tomatoe to the crowd.

"Do you know how much money, time and energy goes into the research and growth of this food you have so casually decided to waste?"

The man trembled and shook his head.

"So you know nothing and yet you are happy to waste what others don’t even have because we are still not producing enough for the entire empire.

You are privileged and yet, you choose to misuse your privilege by exposing your sheer arrogance and foolishness." She spoke slowly, this time round.

Captain Zorl could see that this might take a turn for the worse. Scarlet’s voice was menacing and her fists were clenched.

She could easily resort to physical violence just as that husband of hers never hesitated to do with suspects.

Just as he thought about Esong, a shadow was seen above, drawing his attention.

Lo and behold! Mr. violence himself arrived and fell from the sky.
