Chapter 496: The banshees dramatic tale
When they left, Fey came in and glared at her.
"This, this is why every officer wants to speak to you personally about everything. It’s because you feed them that they won’t go away. I beg you, stop it."
"Yes, madam PA, now I need to use the bathroom and sleep for an hour before the grand opening of Life line."
Fey left her office and Alex sealed the door from the inside on her instructions.
"Come out." she told the banshee.
"Sister," the banshee called her in a very excited voice. "You smell even better than usual."
She grabbed Scarlet’s arm and rubbed her head against her as she always did.
Scarlet allowed her to do this only because the banshee was useful to her. She was the best invisible spy on the Blue star when she was not announcing the death of someone loudly and irritatingly.
Other than that, she was not much of a bother to her.
"What did you find out?"
The banshee sat down on the ground in front of her and folded her invisible legs.
"The bird has been visiting all the trolls and looking for one named Borla. Sister, the number of heat stones on your world has really gone up. Sooner or later one of the mountains is going to blow."
"Do not go off topic, stay on track." Scarlet noted and appreciated the warning but she wanted information on Lanta more.
"Today, she finally met Borla. He is living in a place very far across the ocean. You have to pass by ten mountains to find him.
After giving Borla many heat stones, she asked the troll if he knew what the god of wisdom and a grim reaper had talked about one hundred years ago."
Scarlet’s heart skipped a beat. She was very much interested in knowing the whereabouts of the missing deity herself since he was possibly the one who claimed her fifth child. Or was it the first since that child was claimed before the others?
"That Borla said he could not tell her and the bird got so furious. I thought she was going to turn the entire mountain upside down."
This was probably the strong attacking energy the hounds and I felt, Scarlet thought.
She tilted her head to the left and noticed both hounds listening eagerly to the banshee as well, especially Severus. He was giving his focus to the banshee like the best student in the class to a teacher.
"So, what happened that calmed her down?" Scarlet looked back at the banshee and asked.
If a fight had occurred, she would have felt it. That energy had disappeared as quickly as it appeared.
The banshee floated up and said excitedly, "The stones flew up, dust rose in the air and a cyclone started taking shape." She created a small rapid cyclone in the office by blowing air.
Some of the papers behind Scarlet’s desk flew up and a few toys and plushies fell down.
Severus moaned and Scarlet closed her eyes. Did the banshee think she was an actress performing on stage? Nobody had asked her for theatrics.
"Stop it." Scarlet snapped her fingers and everything that had risen fell down to the ground. The small cyclone also dissipated and the air flew out of her wide open windows.
"Anyway, Borla told her that he could not tell her..."
"You already mentioned that." Flan cut in and said tiredly.
The banshee glared at Flan and retorted, "I will get to the point faster if you don’t cut me off."
Scarlet snapped her fingers three times, impatiently. "Just tell me what happened next."
The banshee nodded and replied, "Borla said that he took an oath not to reveal what was said and that if he broke it, he would crumble."
A defiant grimace formed on Scarlet’s face. If Lanta had failed, she would get the answers herself.
"But, he gave her a clue." The banshee giggled.
Two hounds and one grim reaper looked curiously at the banshee, go on, their eyes said.
"He asked her if a grim reaper can split their soul?" She gasped, covered her mouth and looked at Scarlet. "Sister, can you split your soul?"
Scarlet did not even have the first clue on how to respond to a question she had never given thought. She looked at Severus and Flan.
"It’s not possible." Flan said.
"Yeah, I have never heard about such a thing being done. It’s not possible." Severus concurred with Flan.
"A grim reaper needs their soul to be whole in order to function. A broken soul would be deadly, it’s dangerous, no sane grim reaper would do such a thing." Flan added.
Scarlet looked down at her hands and truly wondered if such a thing was impossible. They were immortal beings that lived forever. They associated with deities and had certain special powers. Was anything really impossible as they all thought? Unheard of, sure but impossible, too vague.
"Was that it? Did they speak of nothing else?" she asked the banshee.
The banshee shook her head.
"The troll went to sleep and the bird teleported away. Sister if you want to speak to the troll, I can take you where it lives. I know the path now like the back of my hands."
"It would be useless. If the troll took and oath then it will not be sharing anything else with anyone. Short of killing it, we cannot pry it’s mouth open." Severus said.
Scarlet made up her mind to find the fire goddess. It was time for another open conversation.
She gave the banshee a soul crystal.
"Go and keep an eye on the former crown prince for now. Remember not to miss a single thing like where he goes, who he talks to and what he does."
She got a small black device and handed it to the banshee.
"Attach this to the terminal in his house, wait one minute and remove it. Remember to remove it, this is very important. I will ask for it back."
"Yes sister." The banshee faded away having got her reward for the job she had done.
Scarlet looked at the hounds. "I am going to the underworld, are you coming or staying?"
"I am going." Severus answered.
"So am I." Flan said.
They were her guardians, and where she went, they followed.
