Chapter 494: Another piece of the puzzle

Lanta the seeker, continued on her quest to find answers for the fire goddess and it led her thousands of miles away from the populated cities of the Blue star.

It had been days of questioning one troll after another in search for the one which the forest fairy had said could have overheard the conversation between Nyx and the wisdom god.

The problem with trolls was that they were always on the move. They did not want to live so close to humans and they preferred deep mountains.

As soon as Scarlet started developing that Blue city next to the forest, the troll which inhabited the mountain where her castle had been built packed up and moved. Where to, Lanta could not begin guessing?

All she had was a vague description from the forest fairy and the name Borla.

The description was not even useful because all trolls looked the same. They only differed in size.

This was her eleventh mountain on the Blue star that she was visiting.

She banged on the ground as if she was knocking on the door to a house.

"To the troll who lives here, I come with a question and I am willing to trade for answers. I have a heat stone for you if you are willing to come out."

Getting trolls to come out of their homes willingly was like separating sand from the bottom of an ocean. In most cases, it was an impossible situation unless you had a trick up your sleeve.

Even then, just because you had a trick up your sleeve did not necessary guarantee you success. It was a good thing that Carnelia’s heat stones were loved by all the creatures which lived in the dark.

If there was a temptation they could not resist, this was it.

The ground moved and Lanta flew up in the air and hovered around, looking around cautiously with her claws ready to strike at anything.

Trolls did not have the best tempers, at times they came out swinging.

A group of rocks started to move, falling down to the ground and a part of the mountain, covered in scanty patches of grass started to move. Two eyes opened and the troll sat up.

It opened it’s mouth and roared, then sneezed. Dust rose up in the air and Lanta moved from where she was, extending further up.

"I apologize for waking you." she said loudly.

The troll looked at her and it yawned. It had just started hibernation and it was not willing to wake up. The season was about to change, it wanted to sleep. If she did not mention heat stones, it would not have come out.

"What do you want bird woman?" It answered dully.

"I am looking for a troll named Borla. He used to live in the Blue city until the humans started to build." she answered.

Then she dropped ten heat stones on the ground. It was the price to pay for waking the sleeping troll whether she got answers or not.

"How many heat stones are you will pay for a location?"

"Fifty heat stones." Lanta answered.

The fire goddess had encouraged her to use all the resources on her hands to get answers.

"Put the heat stones down bird woman." the troll told her.

Lanta dropped the stones down and the troll caught them in his large hands and then dropped them inside a hole close to where he was sitting.

"If you fool me, I will create a tornado so strong that you will be swept away." she warned the troll.

"I am Borla, what do you want from me bird woman?" he told her.

Lanta looked closely at the troll, studying it to see any resemblance in the description the forest fairy had provided. Big head, big nose, big eyes, they all looked the same.

She opened her mouth and asked, "Did you manage to overhear a conversation between a grim reaper and the god of wisdom on this world about a hundred years ago? The forest fairy named Maegwa said that if anybody knew what they discussed, it is you."

"One thousand more stones for the information." Borla told her.

Lanta scoffed and raised her eyebrows. On one hand she was unhappy but on the other, a part of her became excited. The troll would not be asking for heat stones if he didn’t have information.

She waved her hand and more heat stones fell down like drops of rain.

Some of them fell on Borla’s head but the troll made no complaint. He was busy rejoicing and applauding childishly.

"Start talking." Lanta told him when the last stone fell down.

The troll looked up at her and nodded.

"I made an oath to the wisdom god that I would not expose the details of what he and the grim reaper talked about."

Lanta opened her mouth and shrieked angrily. She flapped her wings and the wind started picking up speed. She was enraged and she was definitely going to end the life of the troll Borla.

How dare he claim this after getting the heat stones from her?

She would show him why no monster dared to cross a harpy.

In the governor’s office, Scarlet and her two hounds stood up. All the way from where they were, they could feel the volatile unnatural energy in the air.

Severus and Flan growled, with their red eyes looking out of the window. They were all but ready to head out and engage in a confrontation.

"It’s that harpy." Severus growled out.

"Calm down." Scarlet shouted at them.

She had guests in her office, Zorl and two other RGB officers. She didn’t need them thinking that anything was out of the ordinary.

Besides, the banshee was following Lanta and whatever was happening, she would return and relay to her.

"Sorry about that, my dogs are hungry." she told the RGB officers.

Back to Lanta and Borla, the troll was similarly calming Lanta down.

"I am still talking bird woman. Your kind is known for having nasty tempers, I can see now that this is true. I may not be able to tell you about the details but I can give you a small clue."

Lanta stopped flapping her wings and shrieking.

"Talk." she told the troll.

"Let me ask you a question, can a grim reaper split their soul?"

"What do you mean?" Lanta asked him.

"You have your answer bird woman and that is all I am going to tell you because it is all I can say. An oath made to a deity when broken leads to death and I Borla, am not willing to crumble into dust."

The troll gathered up it’s heat stones and went back to sleep.

Lanta teleported to the underworld and the banshee appeared out of thin air.

"Sister will be so pleased with me." she said happily and she too vanished.
