Chapter 489: Which deity did it?
When Scarlet opened her eyes the next morning, she noticed that the deities were looking at her weirdly. Obviously, they had something to say judging by the way they were brooding.
Her first thought was that they were perhaps unhappy with the way she handled things in the small world. Her decision to swim to that ruined castle had been spontaneous and dangerous.
She thought about her pearl and her hounds and she took all of these things out of her soul gourd first.
Lythia waved her hand and both hounds disappeared.
Scarlet could not tell if this was done for privacy or because the hounds needed treatment. She decided to break the ice and go first if no one else was going to talk.
"Sooo, I am back."
"Have you been seeing other gods behind our backs?" Carnelia blurted out.
"Huh!" Scarlet’s face twisted up in confusion. Why did it sound as if the fire goddess was confronting her lover who was having a secret affair.
"Don’t confuse her." Lythia told Carnelia.
Scarlet shook her head and looked around, observing her surroundings. Where was she? It was the underworld obviously but it was more quiet here than other parts of the realm.
There were no reapers here at all, no spirit pets but she did see two crows moving on the walls.
"I am not confusing her, I am asking about the other gods she has been associating with."
Scarlet heard what Carnelia said and it confused her even more.
"I have not been associating with other gods. Why would I? Have you all forgotten that you warned me to be extra careful about the company I keep due to my condition?
If I see another deity I am teleporting here immediately for the safety of my little darlings."
She caressed her flat tummy and smiled.
"Will anything happen to them if I absorb the powers of the soul growing pearl?" she looked at Lythia and asked.
"No, they will become pure souls as well." The old deity replied.
It was what was driving him even more insane and angrier. That extra child would be a pure natural born reaper, strong and powerful.
How could he allow that child to fall in the hands of a god that was not a member of the underworld realm.
The old deity had a dark thought suddenly. Maybe if he got rid of that fifth child before Scarlet found out about it....
He shook his head and dispersed that thought immediately. A natural born reaper was precious, he could not harm the child. It was the thieving deity he had to stab in the heart and maybe infect his or her world with a few deadly plagues and cause them misery.
Maybe it was the god of thieves, this was a theft after all. A theft of a child that belonged to the underworld. Perhaps it was time to have a talk with him.
"I have somewhere to be." he said and vanished.
"Where is he going at this very serious time?" Carnelia shouted.
Exasperated by her sister’s idiocy, Lythia asked her, "Did you see him tell me what he was up to?"
Carnelia pouted and looked at Scarlet resembling a child who was petulant and sulking.
"You have another baby." she told her.
Scarlet pointed to herself and said in a confused and dismayed voice, "Me!"
"Yes you, there are five babies in there, not four." Carnelia pointed to Scarlet’s stomach and confirmed.
Overtime, Scarlet had taught herself not to be surprised by the things which happened in her supernatural life anymore. It was hard however not to be surprised by this particular news.
She had gone from having no hope of ever having children to suddenly expecting five.
She raised her hand and counted five fingers then pointed to herself.
Scarlet shook her head. "It’s crazy. You guys are deities, all strong and powerful and you told me that I had four babies inside me. How could you have missed one?"
"Ask the other deity who claimed your fifth child. Apparently someone arrived at the conclusion of your pregnancy before the rest of us found out." Carnelia looked at Scarlet and stopped talking.
She had a feeling that if she kept going, her crazy mind would force her to shake the crazy reaper and demand answers which she clearly didn’t have.
"Perhaps it the deity of my world. Also, seriously, why are you deities claiming my children before I even get to hold them in my arms? You guys need to stop, okay, it’s creepy." Scarlet replied.
Lythia turned her head to Carnelia and said, "Oh."
Indeed, why didn’t they consider this option. If anybody was closely observing Scarlet it had to be the god on whose world she was living. The same one from whom she got the green flame.
Carnelia laughed. "Damn, that wisdom is really a a smart fox. He must have thought that he had outsmarted us all."
"Wisdom," Scarlet mumbled. So the deity of the Sun star was the god of wisdom. "I actually thought the god of the sun was the god of my world since we have two suns. Now that I think about it, all that extra ordinary development had to come from somewhere and the deity of wisdom
makes sense."
Scarlet caught herself contributing to the conversation because now that she knew she heard baby number five, she needed to know which god was protecting her.
Hopefully it was not a deity with bad intentions.
"Wait, we should not eliminate him as well until we manage to track down wisdom." Lythia said.
Carnelia raised her hand and said, "Small problem, how do we find a god that has been missing for a hundred years? I have harpies searching on almost every world but he is wisdom, if he doesn’t want to be found, he will not be found even by us."
Lythia looked at Carnelia with suspicion and questions now. Why was the fire goddess looking for the god of wisdom. In fact, how long had she been sitting on the information that he was the god of Scarlet’s world?
"It looks like you have been keeping secrets of your own sister." she said unhappily. "We should talk." she added seriously.
Carnelia smiled cheekily, looking around furtively and preparing to darkness.
"Don’t even think about it or I will imprison every warrior reaper and leave you useless. You know that I can do it." Lythia threatened her.
Carnelia huffed and stayed put.
"Scarlet, you should return home now. Your hounds are already there. Welcome back dear and well done. You got the grand prize, you should be proud."
Both deities disappeared, leaving Scarlet behind.
She shrugged and disappeared as well. She would find answers quicker if she put the banshee to good use. Every monster on the Blue star would be questioned on what they knew about the god of wisdom and where he had disappeared to.
Someone was bound to know something surely.
