Chapter 490: Mommy is back

Just as he planned the previous night, Esong took a day off work and chose to take Justin out.

They took a trip to the newly opened London pet park in the city. It was exactly what it’s name was, a park for pets. Cats, dogs, rabbits, turtles, some fish, parrots, lamas, monkeys and hamsters all resided in the park. With time, Scarlet planned to add more varieties of tame animals to the park.

The park itself was a very big ground and they had built different types of houses for the pets according to their needs. Transparent shields separated the different types of animals from each other.

Animals could not leave their habitat for a different one but humans with passes could go from one pet housing area to the next through the shield.

Justin was having a lot of fun playing with his friends that he found in the park. Esong was standing back with other parents in the aquarium watching their children be bewitched by the sight of the fish.

They too were fascinated, as most had not seen fish like these before. They had different colors and came in all sizes.

"Daddy, come and look at the little mermaid." Justin shouted and waved his arms, as he jumped up and down.

The little mermaid was already a popular storybook in the Sun star, enjoyed by adults and children alike.

The mermaid Justin wanted him to see was an actual real mermaid but this information would not be shared with the humans. Only Scarlet and other monsters were in the know about this little fact.

Everyone who worked in the aquarium was a water related monster whose identity had been exposed by the banshee and Scarlet hired them.

Esong willingly allowed himself to be dragged to the mermaid show where a full house of parents and children were being entertained by the half human-half fish people as Gregor called them.

Scarlet had really gone all out in the construction of the mermaid hall. It was the biggest area of the pet park. The size of the swimming pool alone was equal to a small lake which led directly to the section with the fish behind the glass in blueish-green water.

"Daddy look, she can swim very fast."

"Of course, she can. Didn’t your mommy say that mermaids are the best swimmers?"

A merman jumped in the air, twisted around and fell back down into the water with a huge splash.

Justin was so happy that he did a little dance.

"Did you see daddy? He is so cool." Justin shouted.

"Yes he is." Esong answered.

"Daddy when I grow up I want to be a mermaid." Justin told him.

"I thought you wanted to be a mecha king." Esong answered.

Justin shook his head stubbornly. "No daddy, the mermaid is cooler."

"Son, the male is called a merman and the female a mermaid."

Like any good father, he corrected his son on that but he did not rebuke him on his choice of future career. He was sure that when Justin grew up, he would change his mind once he figured out that those tails were not real.

The mermaid show ended and they left the aquarium. Father and son bought some ice cream as they decided where they should go next. They stood next to a shield with holograms showing the different sections of the park.

"Do you want to go look at the lama’s now?" Esong asked him.

Justin licked his ice cream and answered, "Mmmm...."

While Justin was still thinking about where he wanted to go, Esong noticed a familiar face in the opposite section. He could not be mistaken and he was so sure that his wife that had been missing for a week was making her way towards him.

"Buddy, look over there in the rabbits play area." he told Justin.

Justin looked up curiously, a neutral look on his face as he did not know what to expect. Slowly___, his vision cleared and he saw Scarlet.

"Mommy." he squealed.

He removed his hand from Esong’s and took off running, chanting mommy over and over. Even the ice cream which Esong had bought him ended up on the ground.

"Aah, that brat of mine really has a favorite parent." He mumbled.

Not that he was complaining because she was his favorite person as well. With that thought, Esong run after Justin because he wanted that first hug as well.

However, while his legs were longer and he was faster than Justin’s, his wife had her favorite in the family as well.

She brushed past him and continued on, squatting down to embrace Justin and twirl him in the air as they both cried with joy.

"Mommy, my mommy is back. Mommy I missed you." Justin said in a childish but happy voice that was holding back tears.

"Baby I missed you so much, so, so, very much. I missed you as much the sizes of the two suns." She kissed his cheeks over and over from one side to the the other.

"Mommy I missed you like...like...like...a whole cow." he spread his arms out as he thought about the biggest animal he possibly knew.

"Oooh, that’s very much." Scarlet squeezed him against her chest and sniffed him.

He smelled like sweets, a little bit of sweat and some baby powder which came from the scent of the soap he used to bathe.

"Oh my sweet darling." she spoke softly.

"Mommy don’t go in the locked room again. I hate the locked room." he said in a weepy voice.

"Next time I will take you with me." she told him.

Standing by the side, Esong watched his wife and son embrace and say all that feeling left out as if he was an extra on the Scarlet and Justin show. In fact, he was a like a third wheel on their private date.

"Seriously, do both of you not see me standing right here?" he waved at Justin whose face was in his direction.

Justin giggled, and tightened his little arms around Scarlet’s neck. Daddy had a habit of stealing mommy away from him often and sending him off to his grandparents place. He would not allow his daddy to succeed today.

He lifted his head, looked at Scarlet and his eyes welled up instantly. "Mommy, I cried so much because I missed you. I was not a brave boy."

Scarlet frowned and she felt guilty. He was still a child, of course he would cry.

"I am so sorry baby," she apologized and kissed his nose. "Mommy will stay with you today and everyday."

"Mommy, can I sleep in your bed tonight?" he asked.

Esong’s eyes popped and he shook his head. At the same time, Scarlet turned around to face him and she smirked. He and his buddies and her brothers had ruined her plan of dealing with Atlas and now the promiscuous demon was dead.

He deserved to be punished a little bit.

"Yes, you can even sleep over tomorrow."

"Yay!" Justin squealed.

Esong’s shoulders sagged as he accepted his fate. He dragged his feet over and hugged them anyway. What could he do about them both? He loved both mother and son after all.

He would wait until when Scarlet wanted to take a bath and then he would get some private time to show her just how much he had missed her.
