Chapter 486: Who killed Atlas?

While Scarlet headed into her planned final battle, back home, everything was not exactly okay.

Those involved in the hunt had agreed to let captain Atlas live and they dropped him off at the hospital in a private ward payed for with his own star coins to recover.

However, the plans made by men were very different from the plans made by the deities.

Atlas had stayed in the hospital because he figured that he was safer there for a while as he planned his exit off the Blue star.

Of course, just as Ian said, people like him did not let go of grudges easily.

Atlas was a demon, he was worse than the humans. They had managed to get a jump on him because they outnumbered him.

He would bide his time, and find another demon living on this world to do his dirty work. Esong and his cronies would never see it coming.

Atlas was sleeping when he felt a cold chill that forced him to open his eyes. His senses told him that something was very wrong.

The first thought in his mind was that they had returned to finish him off. But it was not Esong or any of the guys that he saw, it was the woman that had grabbed his arm and stopped him from entering the castle.

Anger overwhelmed him and his nostrils flared. It was her, she was the cause of his current troubles. If this bitch had not interfered, he would not be hiding in here like a weak cockroach.

"You fucking bitch!"

He flipped off the covers which were covering his body and grabbed Lanta’s arm. His eyes were full of malice and excitement. He would teach her a lesson that she would never forget in his life.

He released his pheromones as if he was a skunk spraying a pungent liquid.

He would make her his sex slave and then sell her to some space pirates for a hefty fee. And when they were done using her, he would ask them for pictures and anonymously send them to Beord Su.

Lanta scoffed and her nails elongated, turning into claws. "What a fucking idiot you are."

Atlas, coming out of his daydream gasped and dropped her hand. Just like Esong, this woman too was not affected by his pheromones.

"Yo_, you are not human." he gasped.

Lanta blinked and chuckled mockingly. "No way, I did not know that."

Huh, she drew in a loud breath and gasped dramatically.

She sneered and shook her head. "You just had to keep plotting against a grim reaper, a favorite of three or more deities. How stupid are you? You should have got your first clue when she didn’t look at you twice after you met her. Couldn’t you tell that she is not like not like other human women?"

She blew some powder on Atlas’s frozen face and he fell back on the bed suddenly. Lanta bent over the bed and laughed maliciously.

Atlas’s heart was beating crazily, out of rhythm and very rapidly. It felt as if it was about to burst which scared the incubus. He was not ready to die, he did not want to return to the darkest pits of the underworld where there was no light and only misery.

"I was told to make your human death natural so that I don’t create a fuss which will disturb Scarlet. What happens when you return to the underworld will be an entirely different story. The pain you will experience will drive you to the brink of insanity.

When next you get a chance to walk in the human world again, don’t be so arrogant little demon."

She held a mirror with special markings and runes over his face. It started to glow and the markings turned red as Atlas’s body twitched.

Lanta watched over him until the life left his eyes and the mirror stopped glowing.

"Great, now I need to find a troll." She said to herself. And she disappeared from the hospital room.

After she left, the banshee appeared out of the wind. She had been sitting on the window the entire time here on a mission of her own given by Scarlet. It was to keep an eye on Atlas and report everything he did to her when she returned.

She had the white cat with her and it was perched on her head, on top of her long white hair.

"Hey little kitty, what do we tell sister now?"

"The truth." The white cat answered.

"Should we keep watching or should we follow the bird and see what she is up to?"

The white cat looked at Atlas’s cold body and the place where Lanta had disappeared. They had been told to watch Atlas not the bird.

Besides, it was too comfortable where it was and it did not want to move.

"We stay, for now." It answered.

So they stayed right there, one bored banshee playing with the clouds with on the and one sleepy cat, dozing off under the warm sunlight and shadows of those clouds.

Lanta had timed Atlas’s time of death to ensure that he would be found as quickly as possible and his story would be wrapped up.

Ten minutes after she left, a nurse whose job it was to check in on the patients that chose not to be monitored by the cameras in the rooms was surprised when the man who had been the perfect image of health when she last saw him was now laying on the bed, stiff and cold.

She swiped her card on the door and activated the cameras. Then she looked into them and shouted,

"Call the head doctor, we have a dead RGB captain."

This was a big deal, protocol dictated that they handle the matter as they quietly as they could. She could not alert other doctors and nurses.

Within two minutes, three doctors, including professor Sham were in the private room examining the body of a dead Atlas.

A drone was capturing the entire process because the RGB would want a full detailed report on his death.

Professor Sham and all his colleagues were confused. All the gadgets could not detect a weak organ in the body that could be pointed to as the cause of death.

Physical examination also revealed nothing visible that they could see.

"His cause of death is unknown." One of the doctors said.

Professor Sham frowned as he thought about other tests that could be carried out but only with consent of the family.

"We should inform his next of kin and the interplanetary doctors. Even though it’s unknown, it should still go on the database because it’s a mystery.

How can a fit young man in his prime simply die? It makes no sense."

"Natural death makes no sense Professor and it doesn’t decide between the young and fit or old and unfit. If it was his time, it was his time. Death is the inevitable ending for us all." A male nurse said.

The doctor standing next to the male nurse frowned and glared at him.

"This is a hospital Huffington, do not say such things around the patients."

"Yes doctor Arvi." The me nurse answered docilely.

Professor Sham stepped out of the room and sent Esong a message. It was him and the other mecha warriors who dropped Atlas off after all.

When he received the message he was testing out the self operating mechas which would be sent into the vortex with his friends. Esong looked at them with curious eyes. All the mecha warriors had been on board for Atlas to die or disappear.

Had one of them actually gone back around and silenced him? Which one of them had done it?

"Atlas is dead." He told them.

First they were surprised and then confused.

"It wasn’t me." Ian quickly said.

"Nobody said it was you." Markay told him.

Markay’s words had the others turn their eyes to him, curiosity in their depths.

He rolled his eyes and scoffed. Why was he a suspect?

"If I was to kill him I would have done it out in the open. Look elsewhere." He defended himself.
