Chapter 479: Lanta vs Atlas.
The trio moved at a moderate speed, not so fast and not so slow. Monitoring their surroundings keenly as they moved, they avoided as many traps as they could.
Severus had a random thought and he shared it with them as soon as it crossed his mind.
"It’s possible that this is not just a ruined palace but an entire sunken city. Merfolk build entire kingdoms under the sea. In some cases, it’s an entire world of water creatures, zero humans."
Scarlet pursed her lips and hoped he was wrong. A sunken city would be a bigger challenge to maneuver than a ruined palace. They had already been moving for what felt like hours and found tons of wealth.
They found gold, silver, pearls, jewels, energy stones, magical weapons and other things. Most were old and rusted, meaning that they had been down here for hundreds of years perhaps.
Scarlet collected what she found useful, most of it to humans not necessarily to grim reapers.
It made her wonder however how wealthy whoever lived here in the past had been before everything was destroyed.
"What do you think happened for this palace to become like this?" she asked him.
"It’s probably a part of a discarded world." Flan suggested.
They came to a large iron door, which was blocking the path.
Scarlet pushed it and it refused to barge.
"Stand back." she told the hounds and she prepared herself to blast it by force.
Severus threw himself at the iron door suddenly and it fell inside with a groan landing down with a loud thud.
Scarlet and Flan looked at him curiously.
Severus shrugged. He had the strength, why not put it to good use?
A sharp chitter like sound came from somewhere and they all went into attack mode quickly. The hounds growled while Scarlet readied her scythe.
Something darted out quickly, heading to a different hallway and silence remained behind.
Scarlet pointed the bright energy lamp out so that they could have a clear view of the room. Her eyes which had been in reaper vision mode since she arrived in the water world scanned the room.
"Herbs." Severus said.
"It seems." Scarlet answered. "But after that flower which tried to eat me I would not let my guard down in here."
She took out an orange from her storage space and tossed it out.
It landed somewhere in the middle of a thick herb and weed garden which was overgrown as it had not been tended to in so many years.
Some of the plants had grown upwards, covering the ceiling and dangling downwards.
There was no movement when she tossed the orange out.
"We can follow the direction whatever was in here took." Flan stepped forward with confidence.
"Wait." Scarlet shouted.
The female hound turned and looked back at her.
"Don’t be in such a hurry." she told the hound.
The orange was not a living thing, they were. Who knew if movement was what triggered something in here?
Scarlet had another storage pod, and from it she took out a duck and tossed it the garden.
Quacking loudly and flapping it’s wings, the duck briefly flew in the air as it sought somewhere to land.
Whoosh
A loud windy sound and a shadow darted from the ground up and grabbed the duck mid air.
Whatever grabbed the duck looked like a fish, a blue fish with sharp teeth and fluffy wing like features.
It fell back down and a small splash was heard somewhere in the herb garden.
Justified, Scarlet looked at Flan with a ’told you so’ look in her eyes.
"That could have been you." Scarlet told Flan.
"Or the fish could be digesting in my stomach right now, we don’t know." Flan answered.
Scarlet looked ahead and blew air out of her mouth which made her lips vibrate.
"So, do you recognize any of these herbs? I don’t want to leave something good behind."
Both hounds looked at her with disbelief. Had she not seen the flying fish eating the duck?
"Right, I forget sometimes that I can recognize these herbs for myself."
All she had to do was capture an image and send it to the forum.
"Maybe now is not the time to shop for vegetables." Flan told her. "I told you first to the prize takes it."
Flan was right indeed, because it was almost sundown in the outside world. All they had done was walk endlessly and collect human wealth. The few energy stones they gathered were not enough to help her level up.
"She is right," Severus told Scarlet.
Scarlet looked at the herb garden with pity as she decided to follow the wise words of her hounds. What she was seeking for was here, she could feel it.
She could not explain how she knew but she did.
"What a waste of my duck." She said to herself.
It could have been fried, roasted, turned into a stew. Instead it was abnormal fish chow.
"Such a pity." She mumbled.
They went down a different path, one that her gut told her to follow.
Back at home, Scarlet had received an unwelcome visitor who she had no plans of meeting.
Said visitor was none other than Captain Atlas who showed up unexpected to the castle and used his identification as an RGB officer to get past the first guards.
At the moment, he was sitting in the downstairs lobby of the castle exuding pheromones to confuse the inside guards and maids into allowing him upstairs.
It seemed to be working as a blushing Coral told him to follow her.
The elevator they intended to take upstairs opened and out came Lanta and Beord.
Beord did not pay much attention to captain Atlas, dismissing him as another guest who was in the castle for one reason or the other.
Lanta on the other hand was different. First, she sniffed the air and it smelled weirdly like sex. Then, she felt the temperature of her body rising unnaturally and a weird feeling of arousal.
Lanta knew immediately, that there was a succubus close by in the castle.
"Good evening." Captain Atlas spoke in a low baritone as he walked passed her.
Lanta tilted her head to her left immediately. She reached out and suddenly grabbed captain Atlas by the arm.
"What are you doing here?" She asked in a low voice.
Captain Atlas was surprised to find himself being grabbed by this strange woman.
"What are you doing?" he asked her.
Beord had taken two steps out of the elevator and he turned around. Lanta should have been right behind him but she was not.
He noticed that she was frowning and she had a particularly tight grip on the arm of another man.
"Babe, what’s wrong?"
He walked backwards to come to her rescue if she needed him and he also got a closer look at the man he had dismissed so easily a few seconds ago.
Captain Atlas was trying to pull his arm out of Lanta’s grip but it was not an easy feat to do. The woman was unnaturally strong, the kind of strength which humans did not possess.
What the hell was going on in this castle?
