Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife -
Chapter 478: Suspicious movements
Chapter 478: Suspicious movements
Night fell and morning came, not a peep was heard from Scarlet’s training room. Instead, in an unexpected move, Esong returned to the Blue star ahead of schedule.
Rather than go in search of his wife, he and a select group of mecha warriors transported scientists to the forest to start officially probing into the space crack.
That part of the forest was sealed off and the citizens were told that dangerous mutated beasts were on the loose and they were the kind which were hard to track.
Immediately, they set out on the job of raising barriers in the forest around that area.
Esong snuck away in the evening and paid a brief visit to the London castle to check on Justin.
He was already aware that his wife would be extremely busy this week so he peeped on her, saw her meditating on the camera and returned to the forest in Blue city.
Evacuations in this city were already slowly underway as ordinary citizens were being moved out to be replaced with scientists, mecha warriors and researchers.
Even the RGB was kept out of the loop and they too were told it was to deal with mutated beasts activity.
Some of the citizens were excited, especially those who wanted to move to the bigger cities. They didn’t care how the opportunity came they were just happy it did.
A few individuals however, like captain Zorl were suspicious. There was a lot of equipment being moved into the forest, a lot more than was necessary when dealing with mutated beasts normally.
Also nobody had reported any mutated beast activity in this city, not even the shadow guild that was always poking around in there.
They were hiding something on his planet and he intended to find out what it was.
A careless driver almost bumped into a child who was running across the road to retrieve a ball that had fallen from his luggage.
"Be careful." He yelled and raced after the boy.
His suspicions into the activities of the mecha warriors would have to be put on hold until the evacuations were finished.
He carried the boy and the ball back to safety and his parents quickly hugged him.
"Thank you so much captain." They said in relieved voices.
"It’s my duty. Next time pack everything together and do not allow your child to play so close to the road." He told them.
As the parents were leaving, two reporters approached him. One of them happened to be his girlfriend and the woman he was living with.
"Nice save." Jelly told him with a shy fond smile on her face.
He nodded, and said nothing else. When he was on duty, he was not her boyfriend but a captain of the RGB. He dealt with her as a member of the press, controlling his words just in case she quoted him on something.
"That was amazing captain, do you care to comment on your heroic deed?" The male reporter asked him.
"No comment and no interview. Please evacuate the city as its currently out of bounds to everyone that is not authorised to be inside it."
He called an officer over and asked him to escort the reporters out.
"Your man really has tight lips. He won’t even give you an exclusive interview." The male reporter told Jelly.
Jelly turned back and looked at her magnificent boyfriend who took his duties very seriously.
"Isn’t he cool?" She asked with pride in her voice.
The male reporter gave Jelly a disbelieving look and he scoffed.
"You are so crazy in love that you refuse to utilise your biggest asset. Reporter Saifah has been scooping up most of the biggest exclusives lately. You will lose your spot as the Blue star’s best reporter very soon at this point."
Jelly shrugged and took a picture of a little girl who was carrying a doll in one hand and a cob of raw corn in another.
"What do you think of the headline, "On to new lives in a new city, excitement or dread?"
She did not comment on her collegues comments because for her, the news was not a competition. The best reporter was one who reported the truth and took pride in her job.
Lennix Saifah was not that kind of reporter, she was a fame seeker, the kind of reporter Jelly disliked the most.
In her mind, Jelly accumulated paragraphs for her article on this sudden move. She looked at the male reporter and said, "You know, a quote from the governor would be useful right about now. I am going to see if Mina can help me arrange something."
Sadly, this would not be Jelly’s lucky day because the governor was in the water world, standing over the corpses of three water nymphs she had just killed.
It had been a long night for her, one without rest as she encountered different monsters. In fact, she had no idea if it was day or night because this place was dark and she was using energy stone lamps to find her way.
All she knew was that she had been on the move for a long time, following the marks along the wall to find her way to the center of the palace which was no easy job given its rough condition and the traps.
At the moment, she was heaving as she bent close to a wall and puked her guts out, Scarlet had to keep reminding herself of the reasons why she was doing this.
She released the hounds and got a vacuum cup with hot ginger tea from her storage space.
"You look like you have had a rough couple of hours. Why didn’t you release us to assist you?" Severus asked her immediately.
He was worried because she was pale and the smell of vomit hung heavy in the air. He noticed the dried up bodies of the nymphs whose energy had obviously been drained.
Flan opened her mouth, released red flames and set the bodies on fire.
"This can keep us warm for a while." She said.
Scarlet was reminded of the apocalypse on earth when bodies would be picked up and set on fire.
Despite the stench, people did gather close by and relax in the heat provided by those fires.
She laughed under her breath and took a sip of tea.
"What have you encountered so far?" Severus asked her.
"Nymphs, a flower that tried to eat me, a cold floor which tried to freeze me and something in the walls which tried to stab me."
Severus thought that she was finished but then she opened her mouth and continued.
"A frog that was the size of my brother Beord, some very ugly ass creatures that looked half human-half lizard and believe it or not, evil souls."
Both hounds were surprised. They looked just as she did when she met the evil souls.
"Yeah, that’s how surprised I was too. I was like who brought you down here? And then it hit me, some people froze to death in this palace. There are like thousands of statues of frozen people here.
If death happened then I guess it’s only natural that evil souls be present as well."
"We are not leaving your side again." Severus declared.
Scarlet put away the vacuum cup and she sighed.
"We should get moving then, I guess."
