"Now this is a first." The empress said.

She was certainly not surprised when she walked in on the emperor watching Scarlet’s live broadcast. What surprised her however was his lack of longing filled eyes that vividly portrayed his gluttonous ways.

He was sitting on the bed, watching the show on a hologram, but he did not have snacks as he usually did to satisfy himself through the show.

"You don’t look like you are enjoying yourself. Who made my royal husband angry?" she asked him.

She scooted over on the bed and sat down next to him. Gently, she raised her hand and patted his head.

"Sader came to see me earlier." He said.

"Our eldest son, why?" she asked.

The emperor lowered the volume, tuning out the sound of Scarlet talking and he looked at his empress. He opened his mouth and said, "He is planning to move to the Blue star. I don’t know what he is thinking but his decision worries me. Sader has always been askew, his thoughts have always been on his face and I could read him like a book. After that incident however, he has closed himself off.

I don’t know what he is planning but his sudden desire to move away does not exactly inspire confidence. What do you think?"

The empress of course, was already aware about Sader’s sudden request to move away from the capital. He did not have much of a life here in the capital now that he was crippled and he was no longer the official crown prince.

All the wealthy nobles who used to flock around him had stopped doing so. His useless rich friends were gone. His wife was asking for an annulment, probably because her family now wanted to return to politics since they would not have Sader’s power to reply on anymore.

There was a part of the empress that was filled with guilt which kept her up at night, whispering to her that she had destroyed her son’s life. She had her people watching him every second of everyday because she was afraid that he might attempt to take his life.

The urge to apologize to him was omnipotent in her body; it filled every pore of her skin. It also pained her that he knew what she had done to him.

She could see it in the way he looked at her with pain and anger, he knew or he suspected. But, the emperor had other things to worry about and this was her burden to carry and deal with. She would be responsible for Sader.

She put her other hand on his head and massaged it slowly. "I think it’s funny how we are losing all our children to the Blue star. Maybe we should just move there too and turn it into the new capital."

The emperor groaned and thought about the events of the last meeting he had with the ministers.

"Argh, don’t get me started on this. Do you know what kind of ruckus will rise if we make such a decision. In the last meeting I heard to listen to one hour of minister Obley’s rant about Scarlet’s three character classic which the children on the Blue star are learning."

The empress had read the three character classic, and when she thought about it, she could not understand what they were so angry about.

"Which parts are offending the nobles?" she asked him.

The emperor opened his eyes, went in his book archive and brought up the book. He sent it to the robot butler for reading.

"Men at birth are pure and innocent.

Then their natures are similar but by nurture they differ.

If left untaught, man’s character will decay."

"Stop." The emperor ordered the robot butler. He looked at the empress with a curious smile on his face. "Tell me you do not hear it."

The empress shook her head, still very much confused.

"All I hear is teaching about the nature of humans and encouragement for parents to teach their children how to be good people. What exactly is so wrong with it? Look, the nobles will always find something wrong with Scarlet’s policies because the Blue star forbids preferential treatment for them and they loathe it."

The emperor agreed with his empress completely. In fact, he wanted to visit the Blue star all the more for this reason. He wanted to see how they balanced life as nobles without privileges.

"They are claiming that she is encouraging the commoners to have unattainable dreams. Lately, I have to deal with a Scarlet related issue once a month in the house of ministers. If we try to make the Blue star the capital there will be a riot."

The empress got a pre-packed molten chocolate cake from her storage bracelet and put it on the bed. Then she got two spoons as well and gave one to the emperor.

"Don’t stress, let’s just eat this cake which I requested Scarlet to bake for us."

The emperor had a sweet tooth and he quickly dug into the cake. He moaned as soon as he tasted the rich flavor of the chocolate.

"I hope you wrangled ten more of these from her because I want one every day." He moaned again and took a bigger bite.

"It’s been pretty easy getting more snacks and foods from her ever since Carolyn and Markay got engaged. Her mother reminds her to send us weekly rations. You know how the Su’s are when it comes to family." The empress explained.

"Family comes before everything." They both said at the same time.

They looked at each other and laughed.

The Su’s motto was not the typical way most families raised their children in the Sun star, especially the noble families.

The emperor licked the spoon clean first. He wiped away every taste of chocolate on it with his tongue until it was shiny as if it was new.

Then he said, "You have to admit that their way works. Their children are less problematic than most and their family is more harmonious that majority of the noble houses. I heard that Tion Carlzon wants to emancipate himself and establish his own branch of the family."

The empress brought some canned fruits out of her storage bracelet and increased the volume which he had lowered.

"It serves the Carlzon’s right. They deserve it for throwing him and his brother out. I hear the duke is planning to plead with his ex-wife, their mother Misa to take him back."

The emperor’s eyes widened and his gossip senses awakened.

"Tell me more." He told the empress.

Happy to distract him, the empress started filling him in on all the juicy tales from different nobles homes.
