Chapter 467: Severus’s spot

Barely twenty minutes into her anticipated restful sleep, Scarlet was forced to open her eyes because of the loud unwelcome noise in her office.

It was the sound of harsh growling and yelps. To her ears, it was a similar sound, that of two hounds fighting. In the back of her semi conscious mind, Scarlet knew that it was Severus and he was probably fighting Flan.

Unprepared to give up on her nap, she erected a noise barrier and told herself to go to to sleep. What she had underestimated was the growl of a hound which no mortal device could keep out.

It shattered the sound barrier, piercing through it and assaulting her ears.

Reluctantly, Scarlet her eyes at once.

Swiftly, she sat up and turned her angry gaze in the direction of the hounds.

They were standing close to each other but also maintaining a small distance as they growled at each other threateningly.

Scarlet took a deep breath, opened her mouth and shouted, "Stop this at once, both of you."

Severus noticed that she was awake and he run towards her, climbing onto the couch and putting his paws on her laps.

"Scarlet, how could you?" he said, in a deeply horrified voice. His eyes held a look of disbelief that also closely resembled betrayal.

"How could you bring her here, I thought I was your one and only hound. This is betrayal and it’s unacceptable.

I reject her on both of our behalf now send her back."

"It’s not going to happen Seby, she is my partner too and this is my home now. If you don’t like it you can leave." Flan, slowly walking as if she had all the time in the world approached them.

"She was sleeping in my spot." Severus uttered, reporting to Scarlet what had occurred when she was briefly sleeping.

"It’s just a spot or err, a chair, Severus." Scarlet touched his head and told him softly. "I will buy you more chairs, my entire office can be your spot now."

Her loyalty in this case was to Severus first because they had been through quite a lot together.

"No, I want my spot. I want things back to the way they are supposed to be. I don’t want her here she is just as terrible as my mother." Severus pleaded added a mournful howl.

"Oh don’t be so dramatic Seby." Flan told her.

Severus turned his head in her direction, growled and yelled, "Don’t call me that, I am Severus the mighty lord hound not Seby."

He was not a young whimpering hound anymore and he hated the name his mother often used to call him back then.

"Fine," Flan replied and she sighed, rolling her eyes as if Severus was still dramatic. "I am not here for your seed so that I can have your babies.

I am simply trying to get away from my own mother. I am not ready to bear hound pups, I want my freedom for a few more centuries.

Most importantly I am here to protect the new generation of natural bor..."

"Shhh!" Scarlet put a hand over Flan’s mouth quickly and she looked around.

"We don’t need to put it out there in the universe. Some things are best left unsaid, you call them precious flowers, precious gems or little darlings.

Sometimes the wind has extra ears around here I have noticed."

Be it deities, other reapers or the many monsters she was coming to understand lived in the Sun star, none of them was allowed to know about her babies for now.

A mechanical beeping sounded in her office and she and the hounds looked in the direction of the sound.

It came from the door which separated her office from Esong’s.

"Both of you behave, we can iron all this out later. Flan, here you act like a dog and Severus stop growling at her."

After ordering both hounds on what to do, she stood up and put on her shoes.

Her husband came through the door, eyes looking around immediately for her.

"Esong," she said calmly. "What a surprise I had no idea that you were in the office today."

His face lit up and he walked in her direction. "I couldn’t get in through your main door so I used the adjoining one. What are you doing in the office on a weekend?"

He grabbed her and pulled her in gently for a hug. His eyes trailed downwards and he noticed a second dog there besides Severus.

He knew all of her dogs, this one was new.

"Who is the newbie?" He asked her. "Did you get Severus a wife?"

Severus growled and Flan stepped away from him, creating a small distance between them.

Esong separated himself from Scarlet, stepping out of the hug and giving both dogs a curious look.

He laughed in disbelief. "I knew it, your dogs are peculiar. He definitely understands human language. He just growled when I mentioned wife and this new one pit a distance between them."

"I teach them young, some learn while others don’t." Scarlet told him. "Why are you looking for me? Is it Justin? Is he fine?" She switched the topic cleverly.

Discussing the extent to which Severus was clever was not on her to do list. And knowing Esong, it would probably raise more questions. Hell he would probably ask her for her training manual.

Esong thought she was scared because of Justin’s recent illness. He had already heard about the details of the sickness. The announcement for schools to be closed had already been passed and mecha warriors on all planets were on the look out for anyone exhibiting such symptoms.

Because cases of unknown illnesses were usually treated by killing off the diseased, it was not uncommon for people to hide their sick loved ones.

Mecha warriors were going to be busy in the next few months conducting door to door searches to ensure that no patients were hiding.

"Justin is fine." he assured her.

"I am here because I have only a day left and it’s time to go shopping. A number of my personal supplies are actually depleted."

"Right, let’s go." she pulled his hand willingly.

Severus quickly run to her side.

"I am not staying with her." he told her.

"If you think that I am staying behind you are a fool." Flan replied.

"Your entire generation is filled with fools." he retorted.

Flan growled and bore her teeth, ready to pounce on Severus and tear him apart.

Esong looked at both hounds sternly, and so did Scarlet.

"Do you two need a time out?" she asked them.

"What is wrong with them?" Esong asked her.

"They are simply being childish and pissing me off." she answered. "Let’s just go. Whatever it is, they will work it out between themselves."

They had no choice but to settle their differences because they were going to live together for who knows how long. If she could accept Lanta who committed arson with Carnelia, Severus could accept Flan.

"Perhaps you should come up with a way to punish them when they misbehave. How do you feel about spanking? Mutated beasts can handle a beating in battle after all." Esong replied.
