Chapter 466: Considerations
"We know that it looks like we are asking you to sacrifice a lot but you must remember for whom these sacrifices are being made. It’s not for us, it’s for them." Carnelia added to Lythia’s words.
As she spoke, she looked fondly at Scarlet’s flat stomach.
"That is why we are giving you extra protection." Lythia told her.
"Yeah, the harpy, I know." She said.
She almost added the words, "Who is exchanging fluids with my brother."
"That’s a nice way of putting it." Carmelia chuckled.
"Stop reading my mind. " Scarlet told her.
"How else will I know what you are thinking?" Carnelia asked her.
"Stop , Carnelia." Lythia raised her voice and arms.
Deities did not like to lose even at minor differences in opinions. Carnelia would be here defending her mind reading all day if she had to.
Lythia waved her hand and a whirling portal appeared in the air next to them.
"The harpy is Carnelia’s protection, not mine and not deaths. We have chosen another for you." She explained.
Out of the portal stepped two hell hounds, one very big and tall and another almost just as tall but leaner.
The big one, she recognized was Ruby, Severus’s mother but the lean one was newer to her eyes.
"The most beautiful goddesses to exist in the immortal world, I greet you." The lean hound spoke up first.
"So, a female." Scarlet thought.
"Aah, the beautiful Flan, as always your excellent manners speak for you." Lythia responded to the hound with a smile.
Both of them looked at Ruby, expecting her to greet next.
"What she said." The hound said with a bored attitude and then shrunk herself down.
"Scarlet." She called with excitement and raced toward her.
"Look at you, you are glowing my dear."
"Thank you Ruby." Scarlet chuckled.
"As always you remain as rude as your husband." Carnelia told Ruby.
The hound ignored the fire goddess and placed a paw gently on Scarlet’s abdomen. "I knew you were special when my son chose you as his partner."
Scarlet recalled that moment and she shook her head. Yeah, that was not why Severus had bonded himself to her.
"Oh he did it for the food." She assured Ruby.
The two goddesses chuckled and Ruby glared at them.
"The food was just one reason. He told me that there were more. But you know my Seby, he is a very wise hound. Even as a pup I knew that he would grow up to do great things. He could be greater than his father you know, if only he accepted tradition." She told Scarlet.
Scarlet scratched her hand as it crystallized in her mind that Severus was Seby. Now this was good information to tease him with.
"Perhaps your condition will inspire him to take his duties seriously and contribute to the family." Ruby added. She stepped aside and the other female hound walked forward.
Scarlet had seen cats do the cat walk, it was natural to them ergo why it was called cat walk. What she had not seen before was a doing the cat walk.
Why was this Flan moving so elegantly as if she had been trained to walk a run way? Was she from a hound modeling agency?
Flan, had also shrunk herself and she was smaller in size now. She had a thick coat of black and white fur, resembling a husky.
She stopped in front of Scarlet and lowered her head.
"This is Flan, another protector I have chosen for you." Lythia introduced her.
"No, I chose her as Seby’s wife to be first." Ruby pointed out.
The deities would ruin her plan of bringing her son and Flan together.
"We have agreed that Scarlet’s protection comes first Ruby. It’s not as if we can force Severus to make hound babies with Flan." Lythia answered.
"But the harpy can do it with her brother!!" Ruby shouted.
"They are a fated pair, it’s different." Carnelia explained.
"So are Flan and Severus." Ruby retorted.
Scarlet blinked as her mind was still stuck on the harpy doing it with her brother part. How did Ruby know? Did Severus talk to his mother about Lanta?
A paw tapped her leg and she suddenly remembered that Flan was here.
"I will be your second soul pet." Flan told her. "They are going to be like this for a while now, perhaps we should return to your world so that I can familiarize myself with the environment as soon as possible."
Scarlet looked at the two deities and one hound that were passionately arguing over who was right or wrong and which priorities came first.
Well, perhaps this Flan was right. She kept away her small world invitation which Lythia had put on the table.
"Hey guys I am leaving now." She called out to them.
Two deities and one hound looked up from their argument and blinked at her.
"So soon." Ruby said.
"See, you are so wrong that even she can’t stand being around you." Carnelia said to the hound.
"No, you are the one that’s wrong and I will tell you why. Besides, which fiery eyes of yours saw that she could not stand to be around me? Maybe it’s you that’s annoying her." Ruby turned to Carnelia.
Then she looked at Lythia and said, "Tell her, tell her that she is annoying."
Lythia groaned in exhaustion and activated the portal for Scarlet and Flan to go through.
There was a lot that Scarlet had to think about after leaving the underworld. She left pretty quickly after that conversation with the two female deities, forgetting even to ask about the rotten fruit.
A part of her was disappointed because she had been looking forward to the small world competition for so long. But, a bigger part of her knew what the reality of her situation was. She had to protect her children first, leveling up her soul cultivation would have to be a second priority to that.
She busied herself with putting away paperwork as she thought about where things stood as of now.
While she was doing that, Flan sniffed around her nose before sitting down in Severus’s chair by the window.
I hope the two will not fight a lot, Scarlet thought. Severus was not willing or ready to have hound babies. He made that clear to her many times.
He was was surely going to be unhappy with Flan’s presence.
A loud clock struck from somewhere in the city. It was accompanied by loud bells and Scarlet looked at the time.
It was two in the afternoon, a good time for a nap perhaps.
She eyed her couch and the grey blanket which was neatly folded.
"A one hour nap couldn’t hurt." She told herself. She would wake up when the clock struck two or three.
