Chapter 364: Going gliding
Chapter 364: Going gliding
Three men dressed expensively showed up and joined the Su’s and they went into a conversation about the mecha which Carolyn had designed and was waiting to be crafted. They discussed prices and the possibility of turning it into a series because she had five more versions to follow that one.
Do not open the folder, Reya thought with a greedy desire in her heart. As long as they did not take a look at the design before she did, she could find a way of stealing it away, making a few alterations and making it her own before Carolyn Su even realized what had been done. She had gotten away with it before, what stopped her from doing so again?
"What did you say her name was?" one of the men asked.
"Carolyn Su, our first daughter." Mega said confidently and with pride.
"Oh," the man said. It was an ’oh’ of realization in a tone that was not pleasant.
Reya smiled villainously, and she engaged in an internal premature celebration of her victory. She had made sure to spread false information about Carolyn Su among the top crafting companies in the empire. As long as her name was mentioned in relation to a mecha, it would be associated with plagiarism and failure. Carolyn Su’s career would never be resurrected, not even by the Buddha her sister worshipped.
"We have another meeting Baron Su, please excuse us." one of the men said.
They stood up and walked away while the Su’s run after them, following them out of the lobby very eagerly. Reya did not get a chance to see the faces of the men as she was trying hard not to be noticed. She turned around sneakily and noticed the red folder which had been left behind on the silver glass table.
She looked around from side to side while shaking her head to the music being played on the large screen. She stood up, took off her storage bracelet, pretended to trip and fell down near the table. The red folder vanished into her storage bracelet as her arm landed on the table. Quickly, she also put the storage bracelet in the inner pocket of her cloak.
A hotel employee rushed to attend to her and she made sure to show him her injured hand which was void of a storage bracelet. There would be no proof that she stole the folder if it was not on her person and she had no storage bracelet. Expensive hotels like this did not surveil their guests with security cameras, nobody would know or prove that it was her.
She gritted her teeth and endured the pain from the numbing spray which the hotel employee sprayed on her wrist. Inside, her heart was beating very fast in excitement for the heist which she had successfully pulled off.
While she walked away from the lobby with a secret smile on her lips, the Su’s peeped at her from a corner in the lobby with secret smiles of their own.
"Did she bite?" Dorian asked Mega.
"She didn’t just bite, she swallowed everything we fed her like a hungry baby bird. I told you, once a thief, always a thief." Mega answered and she smirked.
At this time, Esong and Scarlet had left the mall. She finally got the chance to ride a flying car as she had long dreamed of. The shiny blue car which belonged to Esong and could fly on it’s own with AI flew them over the city slowly as Scarlet wanted to take in the sights from above.
It was not advisable for one’s car windows to be lowered when driving a flying car so high up because the wind was strong and some components of the air were toxic. Additionally, one never knew when a mutated beast left behind would attack. For this reason, Esong ensured that she had a helmet on before she lowered the window of the car.
After going around for close to an hour with no specific destination in mind, she said, "It’s actually kind of boring."
"That’s what I said." Esong told her. He was comfortably laying down in the driver’s seat. The car was a two seater, with only a driver and passenger seat. The seats could be lowered and used as beds for those in the car to sleep comfortably on long journeys.
"You said it was just driving, nothing more and nothing less. How was that an explanation?" she mumbled.
"Let’s park and go gliding." he suggested.
Her mind went to air gliding, the activity which was done with parachutes and enabled one to fly through the skies. "Is it similar to what we did last time? The christmas gift which you gave me."
"No, this is different." he told her.
He sat up and gave instructions to the car, ensuring that it parked safely and then he took her to a building labeled, flying skies. High above on the side of the building were humans running so fast and then leaping once and falling downwards like meteorites heading to the ground on a collision mission. Just as it seemed like they would land on the hard ground and die, they were sprung up and returned to the the building. There was no involvement of parachutes in this activity.
"Yahh." she gushed.
"It’s thrilling, right?" he asked her.
"It’s fun, exiting and thrilling. Let’s go, I want to do it too." She pulled him into the building.
The activities going on outside were similar to those inside as people were falling down and flying up in transparent bubbles. Her sharp ears caught the sound of someone vomiting and she frowned. I would not want to be that person, she thought. If you vomit in that bubble doesn’t it get all over you?
"Hello, welcome to flying skies." A young man dressed in white all through with gloves on his hands approached and said to them.
"We want a one hour couples session." Esong told him.
"That will be three thousand star coins, do you want the experience inside or outside?" the young man asked.
"Outside." she said.
"Inside." he said.
Both of them spoke at the same time, confusing the young man as he looked back and forth between the couple with his eyes asking them, whose choice do I take?
"It’s safer inside." Esong told her.
"I don’t play safe." she told him stubbornly.
"Sign these." the young man handed them tablets with waivers and she perused through hers quickly. It was a waiver excusing the company from liability in case of any accident during the activity. It also indicated that they were over twenty, had active mental strength abilities and were voluntarily engaging in the activity.
"Is all this necessary?" She asked as she signed.
"Five people died last year and the company was held responsible. They had to pay millions to the families of the deceased and this is now standard practice." Esong explained.
"Don’t worry, their death was of natural or explainable causes like heart attacks, uncontrolled pressure, extreme fear or unknown causes. It had nothing to do with the equipment." he further explained when she saw the doubting look on her face.
She shrugged, she could not die anyway and many others were doing it right now. Following him, both of them were strapped into their gear and the fun started with Scarlet shouting at the top of her lungs as her body went spiraling downwards to the ground like a bullet which had been fired from a gun.
