Chapter 363: Anywhere

As they left the hotel, Scarlet could not resist taking one last look at the red haired woman even though all she could see was her back and her long flaming red hair.

"Do you know her?" Esong asked her.

"No." She replied.

"What about that woman, the best female mecha craftsman of the decade. Is she interested in bringing business to our planet?" He further asked.

Scarlet rolled her lips around and made a silent "humph."

"She is not welcome to our planet. She is the reason behind my fall out with my sister Carolyn. Anybody can come to the Blue star but her."

Esong looked back curiously for a second and he took Scarlet’s hand in his. He knew that there was a third party in the story but never before had he been interested in the details. If that woman came to the Blue star, it would be a disaster of enormous proportions and all the Su’s would feel betrayed by the individual who dared to invite her over.

It was really surprising to realize that all of the credit which Reya Marley had accumulated over the years was done so on the back of someone else’s work. How many mechas had been truly crafted from her designs and not stolen ones? The mecha warriors association would be wise not to buy anything from her again because when the news about her theft broke, different parties could be suing left and right. The citizens would be pointing fingers at large organizations which worked with her, asking how they could not have known or why they didn’t investigate thoroughly before buying her mechas. It would be another Scott Robins scandal. He too was a reknowned mecha craftsman until news broke that he stole the work of his few apprentices. He was sued along with organizations that bought his mechas or mass produced them. All mechas that came from his line had to be scrapped, causing millions in losses and compensations. Why would someone be so foolish as to do this when it was illegal and the consequences career ending.

"Where are we going?" Scarlet tugged on his arm and asked.

He looked down at her and said with a smile. "Anywhere."

She looked from left to right and then at him with amusement in her eyes. "You know that anywhere is too vague, right? Look around us and pick a place. Should we go to the Monty theatre?"

The theatre was right there, opposite of where they were standing and to their left was a mall.

"Or the mall." She said suddenly. "I want to go shopping and spend some of your hard earned money." She laughed at him while rubbing three of her right hand fingers together and wiggling her eyebrows. "Money, money, money." She added playfully in a cartoon like voice.

It never failed to amuse him how she behaved like a rogue pirate when it came to money. No matter how much she made, it was never enough for her. Esong was so grateful that both of them worked hard enough to make that money which she loved so much.

"You remind me of something." He said.

"What?" She asked him.

"Your dog, he loves to eat as much you love money." He answered with a hearty laugh that deepened when he saw the cute pout of her mouth. "Come on, let’s go shopping babe."

Her feet froze for a second and she looked at him blinking slowly. Babe, she thought, when did I become babe? Her mind whirled with all the possibilities and what did it mean scenarios in her mind.

"Don’t you want to go shopping anymore?" He asked her.

"I do, I do." She repeated her words hurriedly and she actually skipped happily. "I want to buy so many things babe." She said joyfully.

She led him to the large mall, starting from the ground floor and working their way to the tenth one.

"It can’t be done." He told her when they got to the tenth floor. He raised his hands and showed her the twelve shopping bags in his hands. She had been to every shop on every floor they had been to and in each shop, she bought something. It didn’t matter if it was tiny or useless, she had to have something. In addition to buying things, she engaged in conversations with the different shop owners asking about rent, products, haggling over prices and so on. He had never gone shopping with any female member of his family and this would be the last time he did it. His feet were burning and his mind was heavy, how was she still so energetic and perky?

"Put them in your storage bracelet, we are just getting started." She told him. "Ooh, look, that shop is selling yoyos and those are butterfly fans. They have been trending on star net lately and I have been wanting one."

He groaned, sent the bags into his bracelet and followed after her helplessly as he plotted a way to get her distracted and make her forget shopping.

In the meanwhile, Mega Su had started her plotting already. When Carolyn was expelled from mecha crafting school, she had abandoned that career completely. She wanted nothing to do with crafting mechas anymore and threw out all of her books, drafts and notes. Mega had picked them up and kept them safely, waiting for the day when Carolyn would decide to return to the occupation which was her first love. Who knew that those things would come in handy for another purpose?

Along with her husband, they waited for Scarlet and Esong to leave before sliding into the seats opposite Reya with their backs turned to her.

"Aah, when is Mr. Vincent Varakas getting here, we have been waiting for a call from him for one hour now. Has he decided not to meet us?" she asked Dorian in a loud voice which was clearly meant to draw the attention of anyone close that happened to be eavesdropping.

Dorian flipped through a few papers and put them back inside a red folder. "This was supposed to be an upgraded version of Titus 0.1 the mecha crafted by our daughter Carolyn before she was expelled from school. This Titus 2 is the next generation mecha perfect for above and underwater fights. It can also double as an underwater exploration mecha, Scarlet said that there are many edible creatures in the seas and oceans. Titus 2 is guaranteed to be well received once it hits the market and our Carolyn can make her come back in the world of craftsmen." He sounded so monotonous, like someone reading the news from a script.

If Scarlet was here, she would laugh at her parents who were some of the worst actors she had ever come across.

But in this case, it was not the tone of what they said that mattered, it was the content and said content tickled the ears of Reya Marley. First she clenched her fists as she imagined Carolyn Su, the daughter of a mere baron once again over shadowing her and basking in glory just as it had always been in school. The more she recalled the ugly days in school of being called the moon to Carolyn’s two suns since Carolyn always came first, the more she panicked and angrier she got.

She shook her head and thought to herself, no way, I will never let it happen.
