Chapter 336: Don’t even dare.
She did not forget to share pictures of this progress on her own star net page. The Blue star had many reasons to be proud and she would not shy away from rubbing it in the faces of all those who asked the first immigrants why they were moving to a dump.
[Look how far the ex dump has come!!] she said with her post.
In the evening, she participated in an activity which she had not engaged in for an entire week, hunting for soul eaters. Severus found a group of soul collectors hiding out on the Yellow star.
Once she got there, she refined them with ease and then walked around, wondering if it would bring her some good surprises as the Grey star had done.
First, she passed by the temple of the goddess Rai, Ramslin’s chosen deity and lit some incense.
A powerful breeze of wind rushed past her and her skin tingled. This temple just like the ones on the Blue star had bells which tinkled as a result of that wind. It was the first clue that a deity was present.
"Oof," a voice said, vividly next to her. "Of all the powerful gods to worship he chose a goddess of fertility and you chose the god of peace and prosperity. I do not understand you reapers, you do the most unlikely things. I mean, you are servants of the god of death so shouldn’t you be worshiping him? It’s not all darkness and doom you know, he also has the power to give great things too. I give better things of course, so you can consider switching allegiances and worshipping me."
This voice was new to her, for it was not that of the old deity or Lythia. It was also whispery and seductive, sending visions of greatness into her mind.
She looked to her left and her eyes beheld a very handsome clean shaven face, electrifyingly handsome with the ability to make people forget to breath so that they could simply stare and adore it. She would say that the gods had been in a great mood when they molded it but he was a god so he probably did it himself.
"Might I ask who you are?" She asked.
"I will give you three guesses, if you guess correctly then I will reward you but if you are wrong then I will punish you." The male God answered.
She smirked and said, "You are not Rumpelstiltskin in the fairytale, and you are not my deity o choice so I will not be taking you up on that offer."
She had read that fairytale many times and she learned something small from it.
"Hmph, how boring." He said and he faded away, his figure disappearing into the shadow of one the female priestesses that served the fertility goddess.
Scarlet did not want to stick around any longer so she blinked and left that planet immediately. She even abandoned her mission of searching for things that could be useful on the Yellow star.
She found Severus sleeping in the herb garden, enjoying the scent of the four leaf plant.
"Hey," she plopped herself down and shook him rudely. "Something weird just happened."
"What?" He asked.
"Some weird deity tried to make me guess his name." She told him.
Severus opened his eyes immediately and gave her a fierce stare. "Did you play the game?"
"Of course not." She answered. "I have learned never to trust the deities. They are always up to something."
"Smart girl." He said and closed his eyes, feeling quite relieved.
She smiled because of the meager praise he poured on her and wanted to praise herself further.
"Wait a minute." Severus said and he sat up abruptly. "That guy would simply not be passing by without another motive." He looked at her sternly and said, "Use your senses and scry for anything emitting otherworldly energy."
"Who is he?" She asked.
"The God of lies, deceit, trickery and every word in the vocabulary which can be used to describe such actions." Severus told her. "And he always moves with the God of chaos so I am sure that one or both of them left a surprise somewhere close on this world."
"Grey star." Scarlet said.
They both blinked and appeared directly on the land she purchased, where the tall tree was.
Severus growled, which told her that something was around. Could a deity play games with souls?
She scoured the area with her grim reaper vision and golden eyes. Everything was clear but she could not see a soul or soul eater anywhere in sight. It was no coincidence that they ended up here, she thought.
She finally saw a small creature wiggling in the ground and trying to come to the surface. A lot of dark energy was exuding from it and it was squealing.
She felt the vibrations in the earth and a terrible feeling settled in her heart.
"Sand worm." Severus said.
Scarlet did not even think twice and she sent pulled the small baby sand worm out of the ground with her power.
It opened its mouth, probably in preparation to howl just as it was naturally meant to do.
"Don’t even dare." She said and she hit it with a ball of green flames.
Why did the deities feel the need to play stupid games? Did he even think about the consequences of dropping such a thing on her world? If she did not kill it right now, it would grow to cause death and pain.
Severus added his own red fire to the green flame, burning the small sand worm to ashes.
"One less trouble in the world." He said.
As they were finishing up, Ramslin appeared, looking disheveled as if he had come over in a hurry.
He acknowledged her with a nod, glanced briefly at Severus and said, "I came as quickly as possible, what happened?"
"A deity." She answered.
"Which one?" He asked.
He did not even blink at what she said, it was as if he had experienced such a thing before.
"Treachery and lies." She said.
"I will inform the Lord." He blinked and vanished.
Severus blew air from his nostrils which came rushing out like a small tornado, and it swept the ashes of the burnt sand worm away.
"I am really pissed." she said with an obviously angry look on her face.
"I understand." Severus told her.
"So what are we going to do about it?" she asked.
"We let the deities handle it." he answered. "I hope you are not crazy enough to propose a battle with one because we don’t stand a chance of winning."
She snorted and attempted to calm herself by breathing in and out deeply. It was truly that she did not possess the power it took to face any deity on or off a battlefield. But, their was something else she could beat, and for now, it would do.
"Let’s go find some soul eaters." she told him.
"Atta girl." he leaped high in the air, blinked, and she followed after him.
