Chapter 335: Progress has been made
After breakfast minister Rodney Sinclair who was in charge of agriculture on the Blue star escorted Scarlet to the new city was still being built. To access the new city, one needed to go through the underground tunnel which had only been completed just before the new immigrants arrived.
The tunnel was wide enough, constructed to accommodate a twenty road enabling many cars to travel through it at the same time.
She knew that the bullet train station was also gearing up to be opened the following week. She was doing all that was possible to make transportation faster and easier without flying cars.
As for the land beyond the wall of devotion, it would soon be turned into a gaming city. She was stuck between naming it Hong Kong, Paris, Gotham, Megaton, Night city or The Citadel. All these were names of cities in games that her brother had played from earth.
This new city on the other hand, she was thinking about naming it London but already in the capital was a district named London so she was still on the edge about it.
Minister Rodney noticed that she had been silent for a while and he said, "The air buses will begin operating tomorrow. We can return so that you use a better transport means, one that enables you to enjoy the view between both cities."
"I have to visit the tea plantations tomorrow and see how much more land is left empty. I will take the air bus when I get another chance."
The air buses were transportation routes constructed above in the air. They had landing ports above on some buildings and most people preferred them because they could see the city clearer from above. Those who missed their flying cars used air buses the most.
"Another tunnel is being constructed to the west of the city leading from the old town to this new city. I have heard that its two times the size of this one." Minister Rodney said.
"It’s not a tunnel, it’s a bullet train station and the bullet trains will pass through every ever city on our planet. We have to keep constructing platforms in different parts of the cities. It’s fast, comfortable and affordable. I think the people will be happy for it." She amended and explained to him.
"It’s a genius idea governor, it will be better if it has sections for the commoners and the nobles. The seating sections should also be assigned different sections so that those who have the most money will be the most comfortable irrespective of social class." He said excitedly.
"That’s the plan." She answered.
They made it out of the tunnel as they discussed the pros and cons of the bullet trains and their pricing.
It was quite easy to notice the transition from Blue city to this new one the moment one left the tunnels.
The new city was being built to resemble the modern capital with large and tall buildings, wide roads, hologram parks and lights all over.
It was already partially occupied by those who worked there and the new immigrants. Some of the old immigrants had also applied to move into the few apartment buildings already.
"Wow." She exclaimed.
A couple of teenagers were travelling on skate boards which were powered with external thrusters that provided speed. They were using the protected footpaths for those who didn’t drive. These protected footpaths were built higher, above the low roads.
The highway which led out of the tunnel was also vast, leading in different direction and going so high up in the air.
Scarlet could see why some people were opting to move out of the quiet blue city to this one.
"To think that only a quarter of the city has been finished so far, this place will be amazing when it’s finished." Minister Rodney exclaimed in excitement.
"The governor is required to have a residence in every city, right?" She asked him.
He nodded and said, "Your governors castle is already being constructed in the middle of the city. Lord Dorian has been traveling to this new city daily to ensure that its worked on."
Scarlet nodded and she lowered the car window, suddenly thinking to herself that perhaps moving from the Blue city might not be a terrible idea for her as well. Maybe research bases should be the ones in the old city, this one was much more fun.
The car ride went on for another thirty three minutes before it arrived at a large agricultural base protected by a shield.
In there, were massive orchards, going as far as the eyes could see with different plants covering hundreds of acres of land. Most were still short but those that had been nurtured with purifying water were already standing higher.
The farm workers were busy and no place she looked was unattended.
"Wow." She repeated.
"It’s beautiful, isn’t it?" Minister Rodney asked her.
"It is." She assured him. "You have no idea how much pressure has rolled off of my shoulders because of what you have accomplished here. I did the right thing by making you the minister of agriculture."
She saw him look away and blush as if she had complimented his work ethic.
"In two to three months, they will be taller and lush with fruits." She said.
"A month too." He shared.
"Where are the cola fruits?" She asked him.
Because of the size of the orchards they had to tour the farm in a car otherwise it would take her an entire day on foot to inspect the farm.
"We built ice houses to accommodate them since they thrive in cold weather and the two suns have been very active lately. The weather bureau in the capital has released a prediction of the kind of weather we should expect through the air so we know that it will not rain for at least two and a half months. But it’s never a guarantee since the we cannot control the weather. There is a rumor that a company in the capital has a prototype which can do such a thing but the rumor has never been ascertained." He said.
"We don’t need such a thing unless our planet suddenly turns dry like a desert. We have large water bodies, all we need are good water distribution channels." she told him.
For an hour, she inspected farms and met the different managers who were responsible for them. She also took pictures with some farmers and thanked them for their hard work.
While she did this, she ignored the new official press liaison that had been assigned to her by her mother after the events that transpired with Ramslin and the reporter of the Daily sun.
This was not an official visit but the news would probably report it that way and they would sing her praises as usual.
After visiting the orchards, she visited the almost completed governor’s castle, and toured the city. It had many eating spots, fast food restaurants, bars and sports centers.
She saw plaques with names of different guilds which were already operating.
Another headquarters for the RGB had been opened and the mecha warriors association also had a large building under construction. Theirs was the second largest building in the city, even larger than her castle. The biggest was the house of ministers and city hall officials.
There was a hologram on a large building which was advertising division three mecha fights coming soon to the Blue star.
All of these things made her smile, progress had been made on the Blue star, a lot of it.
