Chapter 314: She can’t help it.

At night, Scarlet would not stop chuckling and laughing when they went to bed. She would pause, look at a video on her phone and laugh again which drove Esong insane because he was trying to sleep.

When he couldn’t take it anymore, he threw the blanket off his body and snatched the phone right out of her hands.

"Heeey!!" she said, as her eyes followed it’s direction.

"You have not slept in how many hours? I will just round it up to thirty something so please stop laughing and go to bed."

Scarlet groaned and replied, "But it’s so funny. Just watch it with me one more time and I guarantee that you will be in stitches again. You found it funny too."

Esong made himself comfortable on the pillow and he tugged her back down so that her body could resume the sleeping position, laying down flat on the bed. To further make her stay in place, her wrapped one arm around her waist.

She faced him, and giggled.

"Oooh." he groaned and loosened his arm. "It’s just a video of your brother pulling that woman’s hair. It’s funny at first and then it stops being funny after a while."

"He took strands of her hair with him." she replied and chuckled. "I mean, how hard did he pull to do that kind of damage? And did you see the looks on the faces of the officers, I think she went away with a bald patch." She laughed, again.

He sighed and closed his eyes, breathing and out slowly, trying to relax as much as he could.

She remained quiet for a while and he started to doze off. but just when the sleep was setting in, she shook his arm, forcing him to open his eyes.

Reluctantly, he looked at her and raised both of his eyebrows before yawning sadly.

"What is it, Scar?"

She scooted closer, and placed her head on his pillow.

"I don’t get it." she said.

He yawned again, and asked, "What?"

"How does someone go from loving you so much to pulling your hair like that. I know that Adler was angry but good Lord, I didn’t think he could get violent with her. I have seen her shove him, insult him, slap him, and make his life so uncomfortable but he just took it all. It was like he snapped, which is good for him." She sighed and then started laughing.

"You underestimate the love your brother has for you, which in my opinion is unhealthy. Sometimes I feel like I am competing with him to prove who is the better man for you." Esong grumbled the last sentence out with his eyes closed.

She pinched his nipple and he winced and opened his eyes to glare at her.

"Really." he said.

"Eeew, and gross, don’t make my relationship with my brother disgusting." she told him.

He rubbed his sore nipple and said, "I am not making it out to be something resembling incest I am just saying that he is too protective, absurdly protective, unnecessarily protective, dangerously pro...."

"Okay, okay, okay." she stopped him, covering his mouth with her hand.

He tickled the hand with his tongue and she swiftly removed it from his mouth.

"I get it, my brother is too much." she said, rolling her eyes.

"So you see it too." he answered.

"Look, my brother is overprotective, not just of me but our family. I don’t blame him, especially not after all that we have been through. Do you realize that if he had not protected me I might not be here with you right now? I would have been a suicide statistic, a murder victim, accidental death. In other wards, I would be dead if Adler did not choose to fight to protect me no matter how sick I was. He even sent me an allowance every week when we were in the capital, and mind you I was not speaking to him. I treated him like my personal bank account, only reaching out when I wanted money. I don’t know why he still loves me, God knows I broke him more than anyone else in the family." She had been looking down as she explained the complexities involved in her relationship with Adler. When she raised her eyes to look at him and see if they held an understanding, Esong’s were closed.

He had dozed off as she explained, so she sighed and took a deep breath. Slowly, she reached over his body for her phone and when she couldn’t reach it, she rolled over on her side of the bed and got her bracelet terminal.

She located Adler’s number and dialed it, because he had disappeared after the hair pulling incident. She knew that he went to the RGB, and he also put out a statement apologizing for his conduct because it was unbecoming of a governor. After that, he vanished, not even answering her messages.

"Pick up, brother." she whispered.

To her relief, the call was answered and immediately, she said, "Brother, you are still awake."

"Uhm, hello," A voice that was not Adler’s answered.

"Who is this?" Scarlet asked.

"I am the manager of the Coco bar, the minister cannot come to the phone right now."

"Where are his guards?" she asked.

"He is alone." the voice told her. "He is also drunk and passed out in one of the private rooms."

"I am coming, make sure that he stays put and keep an eye on him." she told the man on the other end of Adler’s phone.

She looked at Esong, wondered if she should wake him up, and shook her head, choosing not to do so. Then she got out of bed, changed her clothes and blinked out of the castle.

It would be useless to wake all the guards up and make a fuss over something she could handle easily.

Coco bar was located at the edge of the new district, it was in one of the new buildings which provided all sorts of entertainment like gaming halls, a night club, a bar and others.

She appeared behind the building, in a blind spot where the camera would not see her suddenly appear and she covered her head with a scarf. Such areas were monitored highly to keep out underage children, criminals and for the safety of those who chose to have a good time.

Because they were still in the one month holiday of celebration, the area was very crowded, with people outside and inside. The music was loud, some of it being played from cars in the parking lot and some people were drinking and others dancing.

She looked away from them and looked elsewhere, the entrance of the club which took up half the building from the bottom floor to the top. She had never seen a night club like this and she had only been inside once, after it’s opening and that was before operations started.

The line leading to the entrance of the club was quite long, but no one seemed to be impatient.

She paused her feet, when she saw Elroy and captain Jacks entering the club just as she took the elevator up to the roof top bar.

"This can’t be good." she said to herself. Now she knew why Fey had said that Elroy had discovered women.

How could he not discover women if he was hanging out with the king of harems, captain Jacks.
