Chapter 94: Past trauma

Ave gasped as she collided with the person’s chest, their arms wrapping around her in a hug. It only took a moment before Ave snapped out of her daze when she heard the person whisper,

"If you’re ignoring me because you’re still mad at me my love, I’m sorry. Tell me what you want, and I’ll give it to you. Anything," Caelan whispered in a desperate plea, unable to take her cold treatment any longer. He hadn’t been able to sleep for two nights because he had been thinking about her and all the days they had sneaked out to have fun together. He hated that she now gave Lucian the looks she used to only give to him.

Even though the Empress had warned him to stay away from Selene until he was the Emperor, Caelan couldn’t help it and had come to wait for her here this morning after learning she was in the main palace today. Not to mention yesterday he’d been worried when he’d heard she was sick.

He didn’t care what his mother would say as long as he got Selene back. No courtesans had been able to make him want them more than once like Selene had made him want her all the time. She was a stupid whore, and he liked and wanted her for it.

"Please hold me back, Selene. I miss your touches and kisses, your warmth and your—"

Ave felt her skin crawl at his whispered words that fell on the skin of her neck and immediately pushed away from his hug, taking four steps back before glaring up at him, trying her best to resist the urge to slap him.

"Haven’t I made it clear to you the other time to stay the hell away from me? You don’t listen easily, do you?" Was he asking to be kicked again? Because she would surely kick him if he tried any nonsense with her.

Caelan stepped forward to close the distance she had put between them, but Ave stepped back and held up her hand to stop him. His face turned from longing to displeasure.

"What has gotten into you lately? You were never angry with me regardless of what I did. Is it because you’re afraid that son of a whore will hurt me? Don’t worry, the cursed prince has nothing against me now that I will soon be taking the throne with the help of the Banzai kingdom. He’s a disgusting loser like you always—"

"Call him another disrespectful name, and I swear I’ll forget you’re a prince and slap you until you lose the little sense left in that empty head of yours," Ave warned through clenched teeth, displeased and angered by the names he was using to address Lucian. She wasn’t Selene, and tolerating this prince was something she couldn’t do for long.

Her words and the look in her eyes contorted Caelan’s expression in rage before he schooled his features. He had thought she had been ignoring him because of his mother’s orders, but the way she was looking at him and the words she used snapped the little patience he had left. He hadn’t realized how much more he was into Selene than he thought until now that she had changed towards him.

"Selene," he said, using every bit of control to calm himself, "if you’re behaving like this because you want to hurt me, then you’re doing a hell of a good job. However, you better quit the act before it’s too late. Once I become the Emperor, there will be no chance of redeeming yourself. Your life will be worse than hell. Come back to me, and I’ll secure your future better than that loser you married. Even though I’ll be taking a wife, you’ll be the one I cherish more, just like I promised before. And I know you want me," he said the last part with confidence.

Ave didn’t know whether to laugh or get angry at this man. She wasn’t really in the mood to talk with him as she was consumed with the thoughts of the guests and how to get them to Lucian’s side. If she wasn’t afraid of the consequences that would follow, she really would have hit him.

Smirking smugly, Ave crossed her arms over her chest before she said, "Caelan, I’ll say this to you one last time. I am no longer interested in you. And the next time you harass me like that by pulling me into a corner, I won’t hesitate to knock you out again. Understood?" She arched a brow at him.

Caelan’s patience completely snapped, and without thinking twice, he grabbed both her shoulders, leaned his head down, and closed his lips on hers before she could react. Selene had always liked his kiss, she always melted in his arms all the time, and thus, he disregarded her warning and kissed her with all the anger in his heart, intending to tutor her into wanting him. He bit down on her bottom lip to make her part her mouth for him.

Ave, who was taken off guard by the prince’s kiss, gasped when he bit her lip. She had never felt so much disgust in her entire life as she was feeling right now. She tried to push him away, but he held on to her so tight she could barely move back.

When he began to attempt to touch her body, she stilled as terrible memories of her father in her childhood began to flood her head, the times he would come into her room at night and begin to touch her in her sleep, and when he’d make her do things a girl her age wasn’t supposed to know or even attempt.

With those memories came the panic of not wanting to be touched or held, and with it came anger and disgust, and before Caelan could go far in whatever he thought he was trying to achieve by forcing himself on her like this, Ave raised her knee and, with all the strength she could muster, hit him hard in the groin causing him to groan in pain and immediately release her. When he released her, she didn’t hesitate to send him falling back with a punch and a kick to his gut.

"I warned you, and you refused to listen, you bastard," she cried, her voice trembling with uncontrollable rage as she kicked him again before he could recover from the pain in his groin or her first kicks, without caring about the consequences.

"Selene, you are as good as gone if I recover from this. I will make sure you regret this so much and beg me on your knees. I will turn you into my sex slave and—ugh!" He groaned in pain as Ave gave him another kick in the groin when he was standing up again. Without even waiting for him to recover, she turned on her heels and ran away from there.

Using her dress sleeves, she wiped her mouth where she could still feel the lingering, repulsive warmth of his kiss and tongue. She wiped so hard she bruised her lips, and her eyes filled with hot tears of anger and disgust. She was wiping while walking without looking where she was going until she bumped into someone, who, because of her anger, she didn’t even bother to turn to or apologize to before resuming to walk while wiping her lips. The person reached out and pulled her hand.

Ave would have flinched back from another person’s touch in the state of mind she was in at this moment if that addictive scent she’d come to like and which soothed her mind hadn’t swirled to her nose. She stopped, her hand still on her lips as she looked back at him. His amber eyes were blank and emotionless as usual, but they narrowed down at her lips where she was wiping.

Before she knew it, he pulled her toward him with a tug, and she collided into his solid chest, her forehead hitting against him. She felt her heart skip a beat. She quickly stepped back from him, but his arm went around her waist to keep her in front of him before she could move further away.

Looking up at him, she was going to tell him to let go but the word refused to com out, perhaps her voice was lot in the sea of anger, turmoil and pain of a resurfacing trauma, but she saw him raise his hand tenderly lowering he wrist which she still had covering her lips.

Ave blinked as he frowned at her lips, and she didn’t have to look into a mirror to know she had bruised her lips because she could see it from his expression that turned from plain and blank to a deep scowl and then back to blank again.

Lucian’s sharp sense of smell picked up a faint scent he usually perceived on the third prince lingering on her body, and when he saw her swollen lips that looked bruised, he pieced the puzzle together and knew she had been with him just now.

However, judging from her tear-filled eyes and how she had been wiping her lips, one thing was certain—his brother had tried to force himself on her.

Aveline wasn’t Selene and she must have protested against his perverted actions which Selene tolerated and even enjoyed, the image of his step brother trying to have his way with Ave surfaced in his mind and Lucian felt something sharp prick into his chest causing waves of anger course through him. That thought alone made his expression turn murderous, and his grip around her waist tightened as he pulled her more into his arms like a man holding on to what he deemed as his possessively.

Ave, who felt his arm tighten around her waist and noticed his expression turn murderous as he looked down at her, gulped in nervousness as she had no idea why he looked so mad when she hadn’t even said anything to offend him now.

"Where did he do that to you?" she heard him ask in a low, deep voice laced with anger, causing her to frown up at him, uncertain of what he meant. What did he mean? she wondered. But he gritted his teeth in annoyance and tugged her into him more until there was no space between them and her body was rubbing into his front, and her face was a breath away from his.

"Don’t provoke me more, Aveline. I can barely control a rage I don’t know why I’m feeling when Selene has been with him more than once," he said through clenched teeth, a vein twitching on his forehead. "Did Caelan try to force himself on you?" he asked, his eyes boring down into hers with his breath fanning her face from how close he was holding her.

Ave heard his question, and she felt her eyes prick with tears as she couldn’t help the disgust and the urge to go and bathe again to wash her mouth. She had never been kissed by anyone before, but that son of a bitch had taken her first kiss, which she had never meant or wanted to ever give away to anyone.

She nodded her head while trying to wiggle out of Lucian’s hold, but his grip around her waist was too firm. He didn’t budge and instead tugged her more into his body, as if he wanted to merge their bodies right then.

Ave glared up at him with tear-filled eyes, where she could barely see his face as her vision was blurred from the tears. "Let go of me. I don’t want to be touched. I don’t know what Selene saw in that brother of yours, but he disgusts me more than anything in this world. He’s a pig and a cow!" she cried out, desperate to escape any physical contact with him so as not to revisit a memory that would make her hate him being close to her as well.

Ave had been fine with him touching her before, until today. That bastard Caelan had added to her trauma of being touched by the opposite sex, a fear she thought she had long buried, but now it was returning.
