Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 66: Injured hand
Chapter 66: Injured hand
One moment she was asleep in the second prince’s chamber, but when she opened her eyes, Ave found herself amidst the clamoring crowd of the media, with four bodyguards trying to pry the media people away from her path to her shining limo.
She was wearing the red dress she’d worn the day of her accident, with many fans standing on the sidelines of the red carpet chanting her name at the top of their lungs, with some passing pens and books for her to sign.
Ave smiled at the camera and waved at her fans, while the reporters threw questions at her.
"Miss Eamon, is it true that you pushed Victoria off the stage because you were jealous of her achievement?"
Ave froze at that question. She pushed Victoria off the stage? Wait, what? What was going on here? she thought as she looked around, only to notice that the crowd, which had been chanting her name, had stopped and was now looking at her with hate. Some of them even began to throw things at her.
"Aveline Eamon is a witch! A cold-hearted woman filled with jealousy!" someone yelled from the crowd.
"Is it true that you pushed her off the stage because you wanted to claim her face as yours and live her life, just like you are doing now?" asked another reporter.
Ave was too confused to speak and stood frozen in place as she had no idea what they were saying. How did she push Victoria when the two-faced witch had been the one to push her? And how come she was here?
"You are a disgusting woman, driven by jealousy to dare take the face of our beloved Victoria!"
Ave’s eyes fell on the limo’s glimmering window where the reflection looking back at her was Victoria’s face with a smirk of victory.
"I told you, you are a little fly beneath my feet, and I will crush you to your ruins until no one remembers who you are," said the reflection of Victoria to Ave. "Enjoy your life being me while I enjoy your peaceful life, Ave."
Wait a minute, Ave thought, her eyes widening. That wasn’t Victoria but Selene, right? What was going on here? Ave began to panic when she felt something hit her squarely on the forehead, causing pain to shoot through her head.
Before she knew it, many things were being thrown at her by the people standing on the sidelines while cursing her. Ave began to shake her head as she stepped backward, trying to explain, but no one was listening. Tears began to stream down her face as the dreams she’d worked so hard to achieve now crumbled before her eyes.
She looked around just in time to see someone in the crowd throw a knife. Ave raised her hand to block it from hitting her face, and it struck her palm. An unbearable pain shot through her entire hand, causing more tears to roll down her cheeks as she watched the blood ooze out of her palm. Then the wound began to turn dark and swell up all of a sudden.
"No...my hand, what’s happening to my hand?" she cried out in panic as the world around her began to fade, and the people’s laughter and curses swirled around her head, until she woke up from the nightmare.
Ave could barely open her eyes as she felt lightheaded and weak. Though everything she had just experienced felt unreal, the pain in her hand was real. She could hear voices around her, one being Lucian’s, who was speaking to another man in the room whom she didn’t recognize but could feel was looming over her and doing something to her hand that made it more painful.
"Let go of me..." Ave cried out subconsciously. "I want to go back home..." she cried again, trying to pull her painful hand away from whoever was holding it and making it worse.
"What is that you are putting on the wound?" Lucian demanded of the royal physician he had personally brought this morning to check on Ave, as he had noticed in the middle of the night how she was tossing and turning and crying in her sleep. And now, while the man treated her, she seemed to be in so much pain.
The physician nervously looked towards the second prince, who had walked into his residence as if he owned it early in the morning and pulled him out of bed, without even waiting for him to change into his royal physician uniform. The prince had dragged him here in his carriage and commanded him to treat his wife’s injured hand.
The last time the physician had been here was when Princess Selene had had that accident and he’d treated her, but he had not even met with the second prince throughout the treatment. But now that the prince was standing over him, watching closely at what he was doing, and even asking him to taste every single one of the medicines before he applied it to Ave, the man shook with nervousness.
"Y-your Highness, it’s natural for her to feel pain as the wound seemed to have been left untreated for some time and is getting infected," he said carefully, making sure he wouldn’t offend the prince, as rumors had it that he killed when in a bad mood. If only he would step out and allow him to do his job properly.
Lucian could tell he was making the man nervous with his presence and could read his body language. "Make sure she doesn’t lose her hand to the infection," he warned as he stepped back from the man. "And if you do anything that will cost her life, be ready to bid farewell to your head. I will be back to check on your progress," he said. Glancing one last time at Ave’s flushed, sweat-covered face with her brows creased together, he turned on his heels and left the room to allow the man to treat her properly.
Once Lucian left his chamber, he was met with Zane who he had sent on an errand last night standing before a window at the end of a corridor. As if sensing Lucian’s presence, Zane turned around and bowed slightly.
"Have you gotten everything I asked for?" Lucian asked as he came to stand beside Zane, who nodded.
"Yes, I made the arrangements, and the books will arrive here in a day or two."
"What? I thought I said I wanted them today?" Lucian glanced at him in displeasure.
"Well, the books you asked for are not something from here; they are books taken from Gina before the massacre took place. If anyone were to know that you wanted them in your palace library, don’t you think it would put you in trouble?" Zane tried to reason, and seeing how Lucian’s displeasure disappeared, he continued to say,
"I made the arrangements for them to be delivered here on the day we get the armor and blade supplies for the upcoming war the soldiers are preparing for. That way, no one would suspect anything, especially when we haven’t caught that small rat spying in your palace."
Lucian had asked Zane to stock his library with books from Gina so he could do some personal research about the woman under his roof and how her powers worked. Not to mention he also wanted to learn more about his own powers, which his mother had locked away since childhood but had suddenly appeared after the presence of the imposter in his life.
Though apart from his curse, Lucian was supposed to have inherited some powers from his mother, but to keep him safe, she had locked them away before she passed away. And now their sudden unlocking without any spell made him wonder what could have happened. He had been able to control flame with his mind.
"How is she now?" Zane asked, referring to Ave, as he’d heard from Lucian last night what had happened.
"She’s being treated by the royal physician," Lucian said, causing Zane to look worried.
"You summoned a royal physician to treat her? What if the Empress hears about what happened the other night?"
"She must have already heard of it," Lucian remarked nonchalantly. "After you summoned a physician for me yesterday, I figured the spy in my palace must have reported it to the Empress, and she must be looking for ways to test the theory of my ability to heal again, which is why I summoned the royal physician."
Zane frowned in confusion. "And how is that supposed to get her off from testing the theory?" he asked.
"It will. The royal physician is one of her loyal dogs. He’ll report to her that Selene was hurt. The Empress will end up believing that the report from her spy the other day was wrong. She will believe that Selene had been the one injured and needed a physician, not me, especially when the physician himself had said the wound was beginning to get infected."
Zane immediately understood what Lucian was doing. He was going to make the Empress believe otherwise. She would think Selene had been injured and had kept it hidden, which made it worse.
"I didn’t think of it that way, but you handled it right," Zane said as he turned back to look out the window that overlooked the doomed palace gate and training grounds. There was a brief moment of silence before he said,
"The guests will soon begin to arrive in a few days. Do you still intend to pick a wife from the Princesses?" he asked out of curiosity. He knew Selene’s betrayal had been one of the forces that pushed Lucian into deciding to take another wife, but now that her soul had gotten lost and another woman was in her body, he was curious to know if the prince had had a change of heart with his plans.
Lucian was silent for a brief moment before he said indifferently, "The imposter’s presence doesn’t change a thing in my life or decisions. She’s just there, and she isn’t my wife. My decision to marry a Princess to support my rise to the throne hasn’t changed."
Zane was about to speak again when his eyes fell on the two royal carriages rolling in through the gates. Lucian noticed it as well and frowned in displeasure.
"The Princesses are here for their dance practice," Zane announced as if Lucian hadn’t noticed it as well.
Lucian didn’t waste time and turned on his heels to go and stop them from entering his palace. "She’s not in the condition to teach anyone anything; they will have to leave and not disturb her."
