Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 67: Send them away
Chapter 67: Send them away
The two royal carriages stood at the entrance of the doomed palace. Princess Thalia and the fourth prince were the first to step out, both of them laughing as they talked about their dance practice, which the twins had demonstrated to him before they stepped into the carriage. Orion had found it funny the whole time and couldn’t stop laughing as he’d thought his sisters must have gotten the dance wrong and wouldn’t be dancing that absurd dance at their father’s birthday ceremony.
As they stepped down, he handed the pile of novels he had helped carry for Thalia in the carriage to her, as they hadn’t brought any of their maidservants today since Catherine had been ordered not to come with them anymore. She took them in both hands and turned to face the twin princesses who had also stepped down from the other carriage and came to stand beside her, each holding a hand fan and looking excited for their practice.
Princess Thalia was more than excited as Ave had promised to teach her how to ride a horse and do other fun stuff today, while she also shared her hobby with her.
She hadn’t been able to sleep last night as she was looking forward to today and had stayed up packing most of her favorite novels from her hidden library in the main palace. This morning, she could barely eat her breakfast, she’d been eagerly anticipating being here.
"What do you plan to do with all these books, sister Thalia?" Celeste asked curiously as they began to make their way towards the entrance of the palace, which they were now used to and walked in and out of without fear.
Thalia smiled. "It’s for Selene to read."
Celeste answered with an, "Oh, I see," and then proceeded to ask what Selene was going to do with books when they’d be busy with their dance, when she felt Thaila stop in her tracks along with Orion. If she hadn’t stopped in time, she would have bumped into her twin sister. Frowning, she glanced up to see what made them stop, and a gasp left her mouth at the sight of the person standing at the entrance.
She felt her heart plummet to her stomach, and she automatically moved to grab Orion’s arm and hid behind him in fear. Ever since they’d been coming here, they had not come anywhere near the second prince until now. Though the princesses had stopped badmouthing him like they did before, that didn’t mean they weren’t terrified of him and what he could do to them.
The twins hid behind Orion and peeked from his broad back to look at the terrifying man standing there with burning eyes that bored into them as if he’d burn them. His presence was so overwhelming that the air suddenly felt suffocating, making it difficult to breathe properly. His hands were behind him.
Lucian glanced at his bratty half-siblings and said indifferently, "Princess Selene is not feeling well and won’t be teaching you anything today. Go back," he ordered, with a tone that made the twin princesses shiver in their place, they were the ones who always insulted him whenever he came to the main palace and now they were in his without any of the protection of their parents and guards.
"Let’s go," Celeste tugged at her brother’s sleeve who looked too fascinated by the cursed prince to answer her.
"Brother Lucian, can—" Orion began to say but immediately shut up when Lucian sent a stern glare his way. He was going to ask if he could stay since it was his sisters who wouldn’t be able to do what they were here for, but he dared not complete his words. Clearing his voice to hide his hurt at being glared at and sent away, Orion patted Thalia’s back and told them to just go back home.
Princess Thalia who had never stood this close to her second older brother before mustered the courage for the first time to speak to him without shaking in fear, despite how his presence was affecting everyone. "What is wrong with Princess Selene?" she asked in concern.
Lucian glanced back at his half-sister and raised a brow at the sound of concern he heard in her voice. The real Selene had never gotten along well with the princesses, and it came as a surprise to him that the imposter seemed to have won them over. If it were before, they wouldn’t have stayed one second after he’d spoken and ordered them to go back.
"She’s unwell," he said blankly. And then, as if he was done speaking to them, he turned on his heels to go back inside when Thalia stopped him again.
"Wait, can we go in and visit her? Please," she added, a bit hopeful that he would allow them to go in and see Selene, who they’d left just yesterday in good health but was suddenly sick today. It wasn’t that she didn’t believe him; it was because she wanted to stop fearing this particular brother of hers and also wants to stay beside Selene if she were indeed sick.
Lucian paused in his tracks, a frown of displeasure on his face. "No," was all he said.
"Why?" Thalia questioned, making her sisters shake in fear as it seemed she would get them all into trouble if she kept questioning the prince when he’d dismissed them. "Is it because you don’t like us?" she asked again.
Lucian smirked at that question as he turned around to face his sister who he’d never even considered a sister. To him, he’d taken them all as his enemies the day he was exiled and treated differently. "You think too highly of yourself, Princess. I am not stopping you from entering because of anything but because Selene is indeed not well. And if you know what’s best for you all, go back home while I’m being nice."
His words implied he didn’t care about their existence enough to even dislike them. The ruthless air around him and the dark look in those burning eyes were clear signs for others to steer clear of him.
Thalia didn’t know if being around Selene had made her more courageous, but she stood her ground despite the fear that was racking through her nerves. "Fine, we will all leave, but if you claim that you are not allowing us in because Selene is unwell, then what about Orion? He has come here to see you, not Selene. At least allow him to stay."
Orion’s pitiful eyes brightened up as he quickly nodded his head in agreement. "Yes. Father said I should learn from my elder brothers, but brother Alden has been busy training the troops while brother Caelan is as useless as me when it comes to wielding the sword. I promise not to disturb you. I will be in your training grounds learning."
Lucian glanced at the fourth prince whom he’d had to be avoiding all this while. Indeed the Emperor had said the boy should learn from his elder brothers, but Lucian hadn’t expected him to choose him out of the rest. Though he disliked the royal family to the core, his feelings towards this one and the elder princess were bland. He felt nothing towards them, while those twins had been the ones to leave a mark in his mind for their foul mouths.
Dismissing the fourth prince would be petty and unreasonable when the boy seemed desperate to learn from him, so he nodded his head. "You can stay, but you won’t be coming in. You will be treated like every other soldier while you are here," he warned the boy, as the last thing he needed was to be disturbed by him like he did to Zane the other day.
"Yes, brother Lucian!" Orion was quick to agree, he didn’t mind for as long as he was under the second prince.
Lucian turned to go back again when Thalia stopped him again.
"Wait!"
Lucian closed his eyes to control his annoyance before he opened them again. "What is it?" he turned around with a glare directed at her. Was she always this annoying, or was she beginning to learn it from a certain someone?
Thalia smiled awkwardly as she held up her hands carrying the pile of books. "I can’t go back with these, brother Lucian. I brought them for Princess Selene."
Brother Lucian? Since when had she started to call him that as well? Lucian thought in surprise. He’d always assumed they thought of him as the cursed prince, and Orion was the only one to call him brother. Not being used to talking to his half-siblings or being called brother by any of the girls he cleared his throat and turned to Zane, signaling him with his eyes to take the books from her.
Zane understood and stepped forward to take the books from the elder princess.
When Zane stood in front of her and held out his hands to take the books from her, Thalia’s breath momentarily hitched in surprise as she’d never stood this close to him despite all the times she’d secretly admired this particular man.
She found herself staring at him instead of handing him the books. He had the most fascinating hazel eyes she’d ever seen in all her life, with a long, straight nose along with lips that looked too good to be on a man’s face. He looked like the fictional men she read about in books.
Zane frowned when the princess kept staring at him instead of handing him the books. Was there something on his face? He thought as he felt the urge to touch his face and see what she was staring at so intensely.
Clearing his voice to gain her attention to his outstretched hands, he said, "Your Highness, the books."
Thalia quickly snapped back to her senses and nodded before she hastily tried to place the books in his hands but ended up almost dropping them. However, Zane was quick to support the books from below with both his hands, pressing against hers from underneath the books.
Thalia felt his large hands covering hers from underneath and froze for a moment at the sensation that went through her nerves. She’d never touched any other man’s hand apart from her brothers’, and though he had only supported her hands to keep the books from falling, Thalia’s heart skipped a beat before she hastily withdrew her hands from underneath his and cleared her throat while tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear to hide her embarrassment.
Zane, oblivious to the princess’s reaction to his touching her hands, arranged the books properly in his hands when his eyes briefly fell on the title of the book on top. ’The Man of My Dreams.’ He wondered what sort of silly books women were reading these days.
Not caring to spare the princess another glance, he turned and followed behind Lucian, who was now walking back into the palace after ordering the guards to take the fourth prince to the training grounds and give him a wooden sword to start practicing before he returns.
The moment Lucian and Zane’s figures disappeared into the palace, Isolde cried out in relief as she bent down to cover her knees, which had been shaking the entire time. "This is the scariest moment of my entire life. We didn’t just meet face-to-face with the cursed prince but with his bodyguard—"
"Don’t call him the cursed prince," Thalia, who was finally snapping back to her senses, reprimanded. "He is our brother as well, and we are to treat him like one from now on."
