Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife -
Chapter 128: A crush
Chapter 128: A crush
Ave smiled awkwardly as she took in the scene in the room. It was entirely different from what her dirty mind, all thanks to Lucian, had envisioned. She was never the kind to always have those kinds of dirty thoughts and would jump to conclusions.
The two were not doing anything inappropriate, at least to her, but to any other woman of this era, a young girl and a young man in a room alone without a guardian was a taboo on its own. Harry was kneeling down at the side of the bed where Isolde sat with her legs curled up under her on the edge of the bed as she held out her hands to him where there were strings around her fingers, and they were playing the Cat’s Cradle game. But because of her sudden entrance, Harry had quickly stumbled to his feet and bowed, while Isolde looked as guilty and shy as a girl caught in a bathroom with a boy.
Ave found the scene cute and couldn’t help the smile on her lips as she said, "Aww, you two are one cute little thing." She said as she made a heart shape with her fingers in front of her to capture both of them in it.
Harry bowed even deeper as he thought he would be punished for this. "I... I am sorry, I didn’t mean to stay back in the chamber, but the Princess was crying, so I thought..." He trailed off, scared that he would be punished for daring to stay back and teach her a commoner’s game. He had not meant to stay, but the Princess had told him to stay until Ave came in.
But when he had stayed in awkward silence with her, with her still sobbing quietly, he had told her about the Cat’s Cradle game they played in their village. She had said she’d never heard of it and insisted he teach her how it was played. He hadn’t realized he’d been here for so long until now that they were caught. It seemed he would be the reason behind his father losing his job in this palace today.
Ave was about to speak again to assure the frightened-looking boy that there was nothing wrong with him playing with the Princess when Isolde hurriedly got up from the bed and stood in front of him as if to protect him from her.
"It wasn’t Harry’s fault, Selene. Please don’t tell on him or tell anyone that he was alone with me in a room, that would get him punished. I was the one who asked him to stay until you came in. And why did you take so long to come when I thought you had been following right behind us?" she said with a small glare in her eyes, while her cheeks were still flushed red. If word were to get out, a scandal would break out, and her mother would surely send for Harry’s head.
Ave, who saw no big deal in them playing in the room, looked taken aback that the two were acting like she had caught them making out in the room. Hadn’t they heard her compliment that they looked cute?
"Relax, Isolde. I took so long because I was caught up doing something outside. By the way, you don’t have to worry, I won’t breathe a word about the two of you playing an innocent game alone in a room to anyone." She sighed as she shook her head. Why would anyone even punish Harry for such an innocent thing as keeping a Princess company? And if it were up to her, she thought they’d even make a great couple.
Only after hearing Ave’s words did Isolde relax and move from Harry’s front. She then turned to him and shyly said, "Farewell, Harry. You needn’t worry; Selene won’t do anything to you. She’s my friend."
Harry looked up hesitantly and stared at Isolde’s deep blue eyes before he quickly averted his gaze from hers as it was another form of disrespect. "Farewell, Your Highness. I will take my leave." He bowed and walked around her to leave, but Isolde impulsively reached out and grabbed the side of his shabby shirt, halting him in his tracks.
Harry nervously turned around to glance at her hand holding his shirt, then at her face, where her brows were drawn together as if worried about something. "Are you all right, Your Highness?"
Ave, who was watching them at this moment, wished she had her mobile phone. She would have recorded them together. She watched them with a smile on her face and her hand in front of her like she was watching two adorable cats.
Isolde shyly glanced towards Ave before she took her hand away from Harry’s shirt and cleared her throat. When she spoke, she tried to speak through a cough so Ave wouldn’t hear. "Will... cough... I see... cough... you again?" she asked, fighting the heat on her cheeks as she didn’t know why she was feeling shy all of a sudden and didn’t want to part ways with the servant boy yet.
Harry heard her words, and his eyes widened. How dare a commoner like him come in front of the Princess again after escaping this without punishment? He quickly bowed his head and replied, "No, Your Highness. I will take my leave now." He left the chamber in a flash before Isolde could stop him and ask why he wouldn’t see her again.
She watched the door he had closed behind him as her shoulders slumped and her lips trembled, unable to form a word, as sadness pulled her expression into a soft frown. "Why do I feel sad all of a sudden?" she muttered as she sat down on the edge of the bed, staring down at the strings he’d given her to play the game with in her hand.
Ave, who had been standing at the side, quickly approached the girl and sat beside her. "Do you like him, Isolde? Tell me, and I will make sure you meet him every day," she teased, trying to lighten the girl’s mood.
Isolde’s face scrunched up as she said, "I cannot like a commoner. They are lowly beings and not of my class. Mother has taught me that much, and I know. I cannot like him. I just want to learn the game from him." She raised her chin up again as she usually did, but this time she couldn’t keep it up and looked down at the strings again. "I can’t like anyone whom Mother didn’t pick..."
Ave was already sick of all this nonsense about young girls being controlled. First, it was Thalia and her fears of disappointing her brother by dreaming of a love she could never have, now Isolde, who she could tell seemed to have more than a crush on the young man, but her mother’s teachings were already rooted inside her heart and mind, and she didn’t know what she wanted.
Grabbing her shoulders and making the girl face her, Ave used her finger to lift her chin so she could meet her gaze. "Do you like him? Don’t think about what your mother wants you to like. Just answer me by thinking about your own feelings and what you want." She said this in a gentle, coaxing voice that brought a flush to Isolde’s cheeks.
"I am not certain. When I first saw him this morning, I was fascinated by him and wanted to know him, that was why I followed him to the stables. And when he brought me to this room, I didn’t want to part ways with him because I liked his company, but I don’t know if I like him..." she muttered shyly as she avoided Ave’s gaze and looked down.
Ave smiled. "Then it’s settled. I think you have a crush on him, and don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about it. I cross my heart and hope to die." She exclaimed, causing a frown to settle on Isolde’s face as she quickly shook her head.
"I do not wish to crush him, Selene, and please don’t make anyone crush him," she pleaded as she watched Ave, who broke out into laughter and pulled her into a hug. "That’s not what I mean, but you know what? It doesn’t matter. Let’s get you into another clean dress so we can go back to the main palace before you’re missed."
A few minutes later, after Ave helped Isolde clean up her bruised knees and gave her another dress she’d taken from Selene’s wardrobe, Ave told the girl to head to the carriage as she needed to go pick up something in the palace.
Ave hurried back to the library picking up the book she had dropped and pushed under the rack so Lucian wouldn’t see. She sighed in relief when she saw it there. Wrapping it up around a dress she had taken, she put it into a bag, hung it on her shoulder, and hurried out to the royal carriage outside the palace.
Thankfully, they had just spent a few hours in the doomed palace, and when they arrived at the main palace, everyone was still busy with their preparations and decorations to care about their absence.
Once they stepped into the palace, Ave and Isolde were met with Thalia and Celeste, who were in the company of two handsome Princes, who were trying way too hard to get the girls to talk. They were strolling around the corridors, and Ave didn’t even have to ask to know that the girls were bored with whatever the men were telling them.
She heard Isolde sigh in relief at her side. "Thank goodness I went with you to the doomed palace, or else Mother would have forced me to be with..." She didn’t get to finish her words before a young prince trotted towards them and grinned before he bowed and took Isolde’s hand and kissed her knuckle.
"I have been looking all around for you, Your Highness. I almost thought you had disappeared since I couldn’t find you anywhere," he remarked pleasantly as he completely ignored Ave’s presence.
His words brought Celeste and Thalia’s attention towards them, and the two hurried towards them with their partners following behind them. However, Thalia’s partner, in particular, didn’t allow her to even reach where Ave was before he caught her wrist. With a smile playing on his lips, he shook his head and said:
"Don’t tell me you want to be in the company of a disposed woman? Tsk, for as long as your brother has already agreed on my marriage to you and I will be living in this palace, I don’t think I will like you being in her company, just like your brother doesn’t. Now, let’s go. I will introduce you to my sister, she will be marrying the third prince—you can be friends with her instead."
Saying that, he didn’t give her the chance to protest and dragged her along behind him. Thalia turned towards Ave’s direction before they turned the corner, a small smile on her lips, but her gray eyes held a sadness Ave’s eyes didn’t miss.
Before Ave knew it, she was standing alone in the open hall with people going up and down while the twins had been pulled away by their partners. Sighing, she proceeded to walk when she bumped into someone who hissed in displeasure, and the papers he was holding fell. Before she could register what was going on, she heard a voice she recognized and wished to never hear again shout:
"You blind wench! Can’t you watch where you’re walking? How dare you bump into the ambassador of Banzai?!"
Edward’s displeased voice came from the side, and he looked prepared to pull out his sword and cut down the "wench" who had failed to do her mission, though his sister had still kept her alive.
