Chapter 139: Chapter 139:An Extension [5]
A couple of moments later, a familiar voice echoed from behind me.
"...you’re not going to steal that elevator spot from me like last time!?"
Shaking my head and looking backward with my eyebrows raised, I answered.
"Looks like you need it more."
"...are you trying to use reverse psychology or something!? I’ll gladly take that elevator spot if you don’t want it."
Raising my hands up, I sarcastically responded.
"All yours."
Staying completely still and not walking into the elevator, Zeke squinted his eyes before replying.
"Alright, I’ll be generous today; the elevator is all you-"
"Don’t tell me you’re scared of the princess?"
Looking at me weirdly, Zeke answered while looking down at me.
"... Do you think this is kindergarten or something? Why would I be scared of her!?"
Shrugging my shoulders, I pointed at the glass elevator, which everyone was waiting on to depart, and said.
"Prove it."
Following my finger, Zeke gazed at the elevator for a couple of moments...a smile forming on his face for some reason?
Then, also pointing at the elevator, Zeke responded.
"Oh? Did you have a fight with your little girlfriend, Evangel? Is that why you don’t wanna go in the elevator?"
Quickly shifting my gaze away from the elevator, I shrugged my shoulders as if I didn’t know what he was talking about and answered.
"What? Just get in the elevator, will you?"
At this point, a path through the Worldly student crowd had formed in front of us.
The elevator wasn’t departing unless five people were on, so they were impatiently staring at us.
Putting his hand below his chin and pretending to think, Zeke pretended to have a light bulb moment as he raised his hand and excitedly declared.
"How about this? If you get on the elevator, then I’ll get on! Deal?"
"...I’ll only do it if you go first."
"..."
"..."
Behind us, a sudden voice sounded as Sage raised her hand and announced.
"I can go on if nobody else wants to."
Shrugging his shoulders, the president side-glanced at Zeke and me before nodding his head.
"I heard about your aid in the fight against the wolf. You are more than welcome to enter the elevator."
As Sage entered the elevator, filling up the five slots, an onslaught of whispers immediately followed.
"FLAG ON THE PLAY!"
"That lucky bastard, Nico!"
"A five-minute elevator ride with them...that must be heaven."
"The four best girls in the new year, along with him? Referee, do SOMETHING!"
Resting his palms behind the back of his head, Zeke walked to the cliffside, followed by me, as we waited for the next elevator.
Gazing backward at the crowd of Worldly students, he muttered.
"Why are they so excited and hyper?"
Raising my head with a confused expression, I questioned.
"I mean, they have a point. Those are definitely four of the most beautiful girls of the year. I’d bet some of them would risk their life just to get in that elevator."
Titling his head, Zeke pushed before saying.
"Oh? Even you care about appearances?"
"What makes you think I don’t?"
Pointing at my bloodied collared shirt, Zeke immediately answered.
"Maybe that."
Not waiting for my answer, Zeke glanced backward one last time before saying.
"I mean, why are they so excited about something they’ll never be able to obtain? Inwardly, they must know the chances of them even talking to one of those girls is zero."
Recalling a past memory from my time on Earth, I sighed and responded.
"People covet things they can’t have."
The fruit you can’t possibly reach is always the sweetest.
Looking at me with a weird expression, Zeke said one last thing as the antique club president slowly approached us.
"You seem to be well-versed in this topic."
Not bothering to respond to Zeke’s words, I shifted my gaze toward the president, who was now standing before the two of us.
Towering over us with his hands behind his back, the president simply stated.
"Please remember your actions reflect those of the Imperial class. That display a minute ago was neither respectful nor representative of the Imperial class."
Leaving no further words, he simply turned around and returned to the base camp, behind all the Worldly students.
He probably had to wait until all the students had safely descended before leaving the mountain himself.
As a moment of silence enveloped us, resulting from the president’s words, Zeke suddenly interjected.
"Hey, what are your plans once we get to the town?"
Confusedly looking at him from the side, I hesitated before responding.
"Browse around some artifact stores, maybe buy something with the reward from the mana gathering competition."
Chuckling, Zeke glanced downward as the rising elevator came into view.
"You can shop at any time; let me show you something."
As the rising elevator opened, the two of us stepped in, followed by three female Worldly students who had been oddly close to us...or rather Zeke.
Immediately, when the glass doors slammed closed and the elevator fell, two of the girls went up to Zeke and began praising him like he was their god.
"I can’t believe you were able to climb to the top of the mountain!"
"That must have been so hard!
"You are, so, amazing!"
The other girl simply looked at Zeke, realizing he was too hard a target, and shifted her gaze to me.
She probably just wanted some fame or money from me.
Scanning me top to bottom and noticing the blood on my collared shirt, the girl reached into her pocket.
As her hand emerged with a small white handkerchief, she simply handed it to me and said.
"You have something...there."
Raising my eyebrows, I ignored the handkerchief and sarcastically replied.
"...Do I, now?"
What the hell was a plain handkerchief going to do to clean the dried blood on my shirt!?
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Zeke staring at me, his cheeks puffed out as he clearly contained a laugh.
