Transmigrated as the Novel's Final Boss -
Chapter 138:An Extension [4]
Chapter 138: Chapter 138:An Extension [4]
Walking down the steps leading downward through the rock, I re-entered the base camp, immediately met with dozens of noises.
Scientists in their typical white lab coats were rushing around their tents, when previously none of them dared to come out, and a group of students had gathered at the cliffside.
Of course, they were all surrounding the main topic of discussion: Coal’s group, which had defeated a B-rank beast and single-handedly closed a portal.
This was a feat for even a third-year at Glaive, so naturally, students flocked to them like they were celebrities, begging for details.
With the evacuation of the base camp and the number of scientists running around, it didn’t take long for all the students, except those in Zeke’s group who climbed the mountain, to find out.
Evangel, Charlotte, Mira, and even Sage were off to the side, so no Worldly student dared approach them and ask for information.
Gazing at the group, I couldn’t help but question.
Why was Sage with them?
Suddenly, Nico appeared out of the woodwork, climbing up into the base camp instead of walking down for some reason.
Walking toward the girls, he nodded his head before excitedly asking.
"I just heard...you three took down an entire B-rank boss!?"
Scratching his head before they could even answer his question, Nick continued.
"I’m sorry about...leaving you guys."
Oh right...Nico had been part of their initial group, but during the fight with Fenrir, he was nowhere to be seen.
Another unforgettable background character.
Vehemently shaking her head, Charlotte replied in a comforting tone.
"It had to be you. With your gift and element, you were the one who could notify the teachers and other scientists the fastest."
Leaning downward and making eye contact with him, Charlotte tilted her head and smiled.
"You played your part just like us!"
She was really going all out to recruit members, huh?
Swiveling her head around, she looked at Mira, Sage, and Evangel before asking.
"Right, guys?"
As Nico looked specifically at Evangel, they all nodded their heads, prompting a smile to appear on Nico’s nervous face.
Stepping off the final stair, I tightened the bandage on my right eye, subconsciously reaching into my pocket to make sure my pen was there.
Would it be an exaggeration to say I felt at my best right now?
Not only had I gotten everything from this mountain trip and more, but it was only Saturday morning.
What was that quote?
The closer you are to death, the more alive you feel.
Considering I had almost just died, I did really feel at my peak state.
I had reached D+ rank and could readily advance to C- whenever I met the base stat total, and I getting more and more used to my various abilities.
Though in the future, I really have to slo.w down on my consumption of time elemental particles.
In the past four weeks, I have probably gone through one percent of them.
While that might seem like a small number, I had no way to replenish my elemental particles, so once they were gone, they were gone.
At that moment, a sudden, overwhelming voice echoed from the cliffside, where the glass elevator had dropped us off.
"Attention Antique Club students!"
"Attention Antique Club students!"
"As you have all heard, a terrible incident has occurred on this very mountain where some students stumbled upon a hidden portal that should have been monitored and discovered."
"Thankfully, due to the courage of these very students, no one was seriously hurt or injured, and the portal has been taken care of."
As the Antique Club president glanced at the area where Coal’s group, Evangel, Mira, and Chalotte were standing, applause followed.
*CLAP*
*CLAP*
After waiting a couple of seconds for the noise to die down, the president raised his hands before continuing.
"As the academy’s higher-ups understand how this risk might have affected you all emotionally, we won’t be directly heading back to the Glaive campus..."
Instantly, students began discussing, wondering what could have changed.
"Are we getting an all-expenses-paid vacation to Clarity!?"
"No...they’re flying us back on private jets instead of taking us through that damned portal."
"I heard...they’re taking all of us to get congratulated before the emperor!"
As the excitement and anticipation among the students reached a maximum, the president finally announced.
"You all get over...six hours of free time to spend in the city of Reinhard right below us...!"
In Earth terms, this was like a company making a mistake and them giving you some shitty reward so that you didn’t sue them.
The response to the reward was as expected.
"Are you fucking kidding me!?"
"I almost died to a B-rank boss, and this is all they’re giving us!? I want a fucking island!"
"Dude...you didn’t even come within a 100 meters of the w-"
"TRAMAU DUDE! EMOTIONAL STRESS. I’M GONNA HAVE PTSD FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!"
"Yeah, just take us back to that damned hellhole Glaive island."
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with the reward as I desperately needed to get back to my dorm room and sleep.
But I did get the chance to browse for magical artifacts!
As the president stepped off the cliffside, revealing the glass elevator behind him, every student begrudgingly stepped forward until...his voice sounded again.
"Ahem...Imperial students first."
"..."
"Are you fucking with me!?"
"This is discrimination."
"Us Worldly students risked their lives to fight that wolf, and we’re still being treated like dogshit!?"
"Who’s ’us’ you didn’t do shit!?"
Being the closest to the elevator, the three Imperial girls and Nico left, sadly saying bye and waving their hands to Daisy with smiles as if they were close friends.
As they entered the elevator, Coal’s group also turned around and put thumbs up, mouthing things like "See you later!"
At that moment, a sudden pressure gripped my right shoulder, causing me to squint my left eye.
