Chapter 140: Chapter 140:Exploration [1]
Suddenly, one of the girls by Zeke’s side exclaimed.
"What are your plans once you get to the city?!"
"..."
I immediately twisted my head ninety degrees, making deathly eye contact with Zeke’s face.
Before I could even say anything, a grin appeared on Zeke’s face as he immediately answered.
"Jett, here, and I were planning to explore the city for a bit and look around for some artifacts."
Then, as if perfectly planned by the two girls, the other one with Zeke, popped up and eagerly asked.
"Can we come?!"
"..."
Don’t you fucking dare, Zeke.
Don’t you fucking dare, Zeke.
Staring bullets into Zeke, I tried to communicate with him via telepathy, but he just looked up and pretended to think like some sort of ancient philosopher.
As the two girls’ gazes lay on him, he suddenly turned around and pointed at me before saying.
"I’m fine with it as Jett over there is!"
Looking straight ahead at the elevator’s glass wall, I considered breaking through and jumping onto the mountain, letting everyone beside me plunge to their death.
Within seconds, the three girls were all staring at me with puppy-dog eyes and open mouths.
Letting out a dry cough, I scratched my head before looking at the ground.
Then, using all the acting skills I had gained over my long sixteen-year life, I pretended to rub my right eye, wiping away non-existent tears.
Avoiding eye contact with the girls, I sniffled and said in my saddest voice, hiccupping every so often to add to the performance.
"W-we... w-were actually *SNIFF* p-planning on heading to my late g-great grand father’s house."
Pausing for a moment to cover my forehead and wipe away my fake tears, I somberly coughed before continuing in a dreary tone.
"A-and *SNIFF* I-i... don’t know...I m-might get e-emotional, so I-i don’t...w-want other p-peopel to s-see."
As my Oscar-worthy performance came to an end, the three girls immediately left Zeke’s side and surrounded me.
Grabbing my arm, holding my right hand, and soothing me, they all comforted.
"No, no, don’t worry, we don’t have to go. We understand."
Finally revealing my eye, which was red as a result of my rubbing, I answered like a surprised child.
"R-really?!"
Holding up my two hands, the girls soothed my palms and immediately answered.
"Of course!"
"*PFFT*"
Looking past the girls and at Zeke, who was now isolated in the other corner of the elevator, I saw him covering his mouth with both his hands, trying his hardest not to laugh.
Finding the perfect moment to switch the tables, I blurted out, hiding my face from the skills.
"A-are you l-laughing Zeke!? I-is something funny!?"
Like the straw breaking the camel’s back, those last words broke through all of Zeke’s defenses, forcing him to break into a fit of laughter.
"HAAHAHHA *PFFFT* I-i c-can’t b-breathe."
Instantly, angry expressions appeared on the girls’ faces as they raised their eyebrows and stared at Zeke as if he were the demon king.
Hey, I’m over here!
Seeing the girls turning against him, Zeke pointed at me and desperately tried to explain.
"H-he’s lying! It’s a-"
*WHOOSH*
At that moment, the elevator touched the ground, and the glass doors swung open, interrupting Zeke’s plea.
Not even sparing him a glance, they all smiled at me and nodded their heads before exiting and wishing me the best of luck.
Now alone with Zeke in the elevator, I pointed at the open doors and questioned.
"Shall we?"
Muttering some profanities under his breath, Zeke strolled out, and I followed, immediately taking in the area.
Trees had been cut down by professors to allow students to leave during the evacuation, and rubble was all over the place.
Stepping over the flipped rocks sticking over the ground, I caught to Zeke as we walked toward the town in the distance and asked.
"So, where exactly are we going?"
Ignoring me, Zeke sped up and said without looking back.
"To the acting school to get you your fucking degree."
"Aight."
...
...
...
After ten minutes of awkward silence, we finally stepped off the grass path and onto the streets of Reinhard.
The town was relatively empty and old-fashioned, with countless stands and small shops instead of actual stores like in the capital city.
Seeming to have calmed down, he sighed and finally turned to me before announcing.
"Let’s get some food first."
As I nodded my agreement, Zeke led me through the streets of the city without even looking at any shop signs.
Curious as we passed through an alleyway that I wouldn’t have even noticed without Zeke, I asked.
"Have you been here before?"
Nodding his head, Zeke led me into some type of secret cove, surrounding by buildings on one side and the fence on the other before.
"Many times. Consider yourself lucky, we’re going to the best brunch place in the area."
Above the cove, countless string lights lay above me, connected to each other and the roofs of nearby buildings like a spider web, forming an "R."
If it were nighttime, I was sure that the lighting they created would be perfect, but unfortunately, the sun was fully out.
Directly in front of me, old-fashioned wooden benches and tables were placed around, creating a heart-warming atmosphere.
There were grass patches and natural moss all over, painting the area a natural green and seamlessly blending the modern area with the environment.
*CUCKOO*
Surprisingly, a bird chirped above me, prompting me to look up and examine the various small animals like squirrels, parrots, and even butterflies all over the place.
It was like Glaive’s plaza, but in the shape of a parallelogram and filled with nature.
Walking up to the one building with an open door within the cove, Zeke beckoned me forward.
"Trust me, the inside is only better."
Following after Zeke and stepping onto the wooden floor, I confusedly watched as he took off his shoes before doing the same.
Soft mats covered the floor, and bamboo walls appeared as we went further into the building until a front desk finally appeared.
