Chapter 137:An Extension [3]
Chapter 137: Chapter 137:An Extension [3]
Placing his hands behind him and leaning backward, Zeke gazed at my side for a moment, just now noticing the blood stains on my sleeves.
Raising his hand and pointing at them, Zeke muttered some incoherent words like "w-wh" before ultimately putting his head down and saying.
"Never mind."
At that moment, the other four worldly students turned around, noticing my appearance, before looking at Zeke and asking.
"Who’s this?"
Looking down at the ground with a defeated expression, he simply answered.
"A-a classmate."
"Oh, but where’s the rest of h-"
Cutting off his comrades mid-sentence, Zeke raised his hand and declared.
"Looks like it’s about time we return to basecamp, or else, the teachers will get us in trouble."
At those words, the four Worldly students who had climbed the mountain with Zeke hurriedly stood up and began walking down the staircase.
All of them were dressed in black jackets and sweatshirts, above countless layers, to prevent coldness, while Zeke simply wore a brown trench coat.
Worst of all, though, all I wore was a thin and bloodied collared shirt.
I was severely underdressed for the occasion.
As Zeke’s teammates passed by me, all I received were gazes of confusion and admiration.
It really wasn’t that cold, was it?
Well...the five of them had probably slept under the freezing cold sky, while I had a sleeping bag under an overhang.
Sighing, I waited for Zeke and added as the two of us walked down the staircase.
"You know, in my opinion, it’s more impressive that you managed to convince Wordly students who had no incentive to help you to climb the mo-"
Interrupting me mid-sentence with a brief and brisk tone, Zeke immediately said.
"I paid them."
"...alright, then."
The walk down was relatively easy, as most of the time we could just slide down some wall, descndeing tens of yards in a moment.
...
...
...
As a familiar short and thin path leading downward to the top of a rock appeared, I stretched my legs and turned to my side.
"Did you really find a B-RANK BEAST MONSTER ALONE ON YOUR WAY UP THE SUMMIT!?"
The best way to lie was to mix part of the truth within!
Grinning, I pointed at the blood on my shirt and said.
"Where do you think this came from?"
Standing there in utter shock, all Zeke could do was stare.
On one side my story was unbelievable, considering my D-rank, but on the other hand, I was the very student who had done the impossible by winning Snape’s challenge and the mana gathering competetion.
Seeing Zeke standing there in silence, I decided to add the final blow by pretending to wipe a speck of dust off my shoulder before announcing.
"If you think this is bad, just wait till you see what I did to that damn boss beast!"
Suddenly, I felt two forces grip both of my shoulders as Zeke reached his hands out and pulled me toward him.
"You cannot tell ANYBODY ELSE about this?"
"...?"
Zeke whispered, placing his mouth on my ear.
"I know this all may seem normal to an extraterrestrial and unknown being like you...but a normal D-rank can’t even come close to a B-rank... No one, IN THIS WORLD, should also be able to climb this mountain alone."
Gesturing for Zeke to lower his head, I also placed my mouth to his ear before...yelling the loudest I could.
"DO I LOOK LIKE A FUCKING ALIEN TO YOU!?"
Jumping backward and breaking into a fit of laughter, Zeke exhaustedly rubbed his eyes and covered his mouth.
Confused, I stood still while staring at him.
Where had the utterly shocked and bewildered Zeke from just a moment ago gone?
Why was he now laughing?
This was all wrong! I was supposed to laugh at him while I told him my ridiculously true stories.
Falling backward against a nearby wall, Zeke pointed at me like an animal within an exhibit, trying his hardest not to laugh, and yelled.
"I knew you were lying this entire time, dumbass! Did you actually think I was falling for your bu-"
Suddenly, I felt a pressure grip my right shoulder, and a firm voice immediately echoed after.
"Student, Jett, please report to Glaive’s administration office when we turn."
Saying no more words, a familiar male professor, with round eyeglasses and white sideburns, briskly walked downward to the base camp.
Ceasing his laughing with his eyes widened, Zeke silently gazed at me for a moment before nervously muttering.
"w-what was that about!?"
...
...
...
Walking down the staircase and making sure no one was watching, Professor Lupin revealed an ugly expression, his teeth gritted and eyes red.
Yesterday, it had been reported to him and all other professors on the mountain that a group of D-ranked Worldly and Imperial students had single-handedly taken out a B-rank boss.
The weight of this achievement was immense, as if the wolves had managed to leak out of the portal, the entire mountain could have fallen like a single domino, knocking over and causing everything else.
Using information from the students involved, the scientists, as a token of their gratitude, had compiled a report for Glaive to look over.
While reading through a report, a certain name had immediately caught Lupen’s attention.
"Jett."
He had been listed as one of the parties involved in destroying the beast, yet when all other students had been there, he had been absent during the final moments.
In fact, when the teachers and scientists arrived at the battlefield, minutes after the fight’s conclusion, all other students besides Jett were there, sitting down and resting.
All the students simply claimed to see Jett at the start of the fight when they had arrived, and after that, no trace of him.
Something was wrong.
After fending against an entire wave of wolves and a miniboss, a student like him should have been on the brink of death.
Yet...somehow, he had just walked away from the battlefield mid-fight without anyone noticing him.
Where had he gone!?
Something was wrong.
