Chapter 567: A scream

Qin Yan really adored the little guy. He was talented at everything. He could learn everything at a really fast pace. Also, he looked absolutely adorable. Who wouldn’t like such an adorable and intelligent child!

As Qin Yan tended to the barbecue, the gentle breeze carried the earthy scent of the nearby river, creating a serene atmosphere. The rhythmic sizzling of skewers on the grill provided a comforting soundtrack to the picturesque scene. Amidst this peaceful setting, a subtle rustling emanated from the nearby bushes, catching Qin Yan’s attention like a faint whisper in the tranquility.

She furrowed her brows, a twinge of concern flashing across her face. It wasn’t just a casual rustling; there was an unspoken unease that seemed to cling to the sound. The melody of nature, once harmonious, now felt interrupted, and Qin Yan couldn’t shake the feeling that something might be amiss.

Setting down the barbecue utensils, she turned to the little guy with a warm smile, "Darling, Mommy will be right back. Stay here, okay?" Her words carried both reassurance and a silent promise as she caressed his cheek.

The little guy gazed at Qin Yan and being an extremely smart child, he understood that something was wrong. He could see his mommy’s serene expression turning into a worried one.

"Okay mommy, take care!"

As Qin Yan cautiously stepped into the bushes, the rustling sound grew fainter, and the surroundings enveloped her in a quiet mystery. Despite her careful observation, there was nothing immediately noticeable – just the gentle sway of branches and the soft whispers of the wind.

Just as Qin Yan was about to turn back, a sudden and piercing scream cut through the air. Panic seized her heart, and an involuntary gasp escaped her lips. The serene atmosphere shattered, replaced by an urgent sense of dread. Without a second thought, she sprinted back towards their picnic spot.

Meanwhile, the little bun, left alone with the picturesque scenery, heard a scream that sounded like his mommy’s and immediately sensed something was wrong. Fear clouded his innocent eyes as he clutched his little backpack and instructed his bodyguards, "Go check on Mommy! Hurry!"

The bodyguards, seasoned and trained for moments of crisis, reacted with swift determination upon hearing Qin Yan’s scream. Their immediate response was a synchronized sprint towards the source of the distress, their footsteps echoing the urgency of the situation.

As they closed in on Qin Yan, she was already on edge, her eyes wide with concern. The sudden appearance of her son’s bodyguards racing towards her intensified the atmosphere of apprehension. She looked at them, her voice filled with both anxiety and urgency, "What happened?"

One of the bodyguards replied, "We heard your scream and thus the little master ordered us to look for you."

"But I did not scream..." Qin Yan’s eyes widened in realization, "Xiaobao..."

She did not say anything to the bodyguards and quickened her pace as she rushed towards the picnic spot.

As the little bun stood near the picnic spot, his world suddenly plunged into chaos. A group of mercenaries, emerging from the shadows with nefarious intent, rushed towards him. However, before they could touch the little bun, Xi Xiaobao’s shadow guards appeared out of nowhere.

The mercenaries, caught off guard by the unexpected appearance of the shadow guards, momentarily hesitated. Surprised, they quickly regrouped and called for reinforcements. Soon, the riverside clearing became a battleground as more mercenaries arrived to confront the shadow guards.

The clash between the shadow guards and the mercenaries unfolded like a rapid dance, the combatants moving with precision and skill. The air crackled with tension as the two sides engaged in a fierce struggle. Despite the shadow guards’ valiant efforts, the sheer numbers of the trained mercenaries proved overwhelming.

When Qin Yan rushed towards the picnic spot, she saw one person swiftly seizing the little guy, hoisting him up into their arms. The little bun, panic-stricken and clutching his backpack, was being taken away from the riverside scene. As the little bun tried to struggle, the mercenary quickly struck the back of his head rendering the little guy unconscious.

Tears filled Qin Yan’s eyes as she sprinted towards the mercenary’s direction at top speed. Qin Yan caught up with the abductor and fought with him. She felt worried after they exchanged blows. These were professional mercenaries and definitely not normal people!

The remaining bodyguards were also involved in a fight with the mercenaries but the situation was turning disadvantageous for them.

Qin Yan was being careful as the person had the little bun, so the confrontation turned into a stalemate.

She was feeling nervous as too many things had happened lately. She had been training by herself and was now powered up to her top form as the little one was involved this time. As she was about to grab the little guy back, another person suddenly attacked her from the side. Each and every blow aimed to kill her.

The opponent was a man and had the advantage of strength. He unleashed a high kick packed with immeasurable power. If it landed on her temples, passing out would be the most fortunate situation. This guy might even kill a person with that kick.

As the fatal blow was about to land, Qin Yan used both her hands and caught the man’s ankle to reduce the impact force. Then, using her hands like sharp blades, she twisted the man’s foot 360 degrees around, forcing him to the ground before she stomped on his abdomen.

"Argh!" The man groaned painfully and was rolling on the ground.

Qin Yan had no time to mess with him any longer. She tried to catch up to the other man.

"Damn!" The man with the little guy cursed, his eyes filled with bloodlust. He had a ferocious expression on his face, "Stop! If you dare..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Qin Yan had already closed in like a ghost. He suddenly felt a sharp pain coming from his elbow and knee at the same time. The man knelt down in pain...

Qin Yan took the chance and grabbed the little one, quickly running towards the direction of their car.

She was only a few steps away from the car when two mercenaries caught up to her. One of them grabbed onto Qin Yan’s shoulder with his claw-like hand and stopped her and the other one snatched the little bun from her hands.

In the midst of the chaotic struggle, Qin Yan’s desperation reached its peak. Her outstretched hand, poised to reclaim the little bun, seemed almost within reach. However, in a cruel twist of fate, a sudden, sharp sting pierced her skin.

Unbeknownst to Qin Yan, one of the merciless mercenaries had cunningly maneuvered behind her and administered a swift injection. The potent substance took effect almost instantly, coursing through her veins like a paralyzing wave. A chilling realization gripped her as her muscles betrayed her, succumbing to the numbing influence of the injected substance.

The world around her blurred, and the once-fierce struggle transformed into a slow-motion nightmare. Qin Yan’s attempts to snatch her son back became feeble and uncoordinated. Her limbs, robbed of strength, refused to respond to her desperate commands, and she could only watch in silent horror as half of the mercenaries seized the advantage, swiftly retreating with Xi Xiaobao in their grasp. The other half took hold of Qin Yan, adding her to the captive duo.

The bodyguards, witnessing the distressing scene unfold before them, faced the grim reality that their charges had been taken captive. In a moment of strategic decision, those who remained relatively uninjured swiftly turned back towards Xi Corporation.

The moment they got out of the car in the underground parking lot, they saw Xi Ting’s special assistant Tong Chunian. Tong Chunian stepped out of his car while taking a phone call. He was grinning and seemed to be in a good mood.

"Tong Chunian!" One of the bodyguards called out to him, "Where’s boss?"

"Boss is in the meeting," Tong Chunian hung up and looked at the bodyguards as the smile on his face disappeared, "Why are you here?"

One of the bodyguards held his bleeding arm and replied, "Today, Miss Qin and the little young master had gone on a picnic. Suddenly, a group of kidnappers appeared out of nowhere and they have kidnapped both of them."

"What did you say? Lady boss and the little young master are kidnapped? How could this be?" Tong Chunian was so frightened that his expression instantly changed.

"What’s so impossible about that? They were kidnapped right before our eyes! Don’t delay it any further. Quickly inform boss!" The bodyguard urged.

Ci—!

There came an ear-piercing sound. The pen in Xi Ting’s hand had accidentally slashed through the paper, leaving an ugly mark.

The man’s thin lips pursed tightly. He looked at the white paper covered in data before him and frowned.

"What did you say?"

"Master! Little Master has been kidnapped... and... and that Miss Qin..."
