Chapter 566: A day out

With the little guy still in her embrace, Qin Yan gently whispered, "Tomorrow, I promise we’ll have a day just for us. We’ll do whatever you want, okay? I’ll make it up to you, my little one."

As Qin Yan made the promise, she felt the little guy’s small frame relax in her embrace. The tension in his expression gradually gave way to a spark of hope, and his eyes, once clouded with disappointment, began to light up. In a mixture of excitement and a hint of disbelief, he looked up at Qin Yan and asked, "Really, Mommy? You’ll take me out tomorrow? Will it be just the two of us? Daddy won’t come along, right?"

The anticipation in his voice reflected the longing for a day filled with his mommy’s undivided attention. He did not want Xi Ting to accompany them as he won’t get his mommy’s full attention if his father tagged along.

Qin Yan smiled warmly at the little one and nodded, "Absolutely, my darling. It’ll be just you and me, no distractions. We’ll have our special time together. Daddy won’t tag along; it’s our day."

As Qin Yan confirmed that it would be a day exclusively for them, the little bun’s lingering disappointment melted away. A sense of reassurance washed over him, and a genuine smile broke across his adorable face. The promise of an undivided day with his mommy, without any distractions, finally eased his heart, and he nestled into her embrace with a contented sigh.

After this, Qin Yan guided the little one to his room, tucked him into bed, and shared a soothing bedtime ritual. As she whispered sweet words of comfort, the little one’s eyes gradually grew heavy. Qin Yan lingered for a moment, brushing a gentle kiss on his forehead, before dimming the lights and leaving the room.

In her room, Xi Ting was waiting for her. He knew that his son was going to confront Qin Yan and he could do nothing about it. He had tried to console the little bun but he failed to succeed. The little one was adamant on confronting Qin Yan and he would be consoled by her only. Thus, in order to not disturb them, Xi Ting retreated back to his own room and waited for Qin Yan.

When Qin Yan entered the room, Xi Ting looked at her and first inquired about the award ceremony, "How was the ceremony? I saw the livestream. Are you okay with revealing your identity?"

"Yes," Qin Yan sighed. She was really tired after the events of the entire day. She prepared for taking a shower during which she replied to Xi Ting, "I don’t really care now. I can protect myself and you are also here for providing me with additional protection. So, I don’t think that anyone from the industry can pose me any danger."

"Okay," Xi Ting nodded as Qin Yan entered the washroom.

After showering, Qin Yan was so tired that she just wished to sleep. She barely managed to keep her eyes open as she laid on the bed with moist hair.

"Dry your hair before you lay down otherwise you will catch a cold," Xi Ting warned Qin Yan.

However, Qin Yan did not have any strength left. She just wanted to lay down. She did not respond to Xi Ting as she pretended to fall asleep.

Xi Ting sighed. He knew all the tactics of his little girl. He got up and picked Qin Yan up before he gently placed her on the chair of the dressing table. He then switched on the hair dryer and dried her hair gently.

"What did Xiaobao say? Was he very angry?" He asked Qin Yan.

"Yes, but I consoled him. We are going out tomorrow, just the two of us and you are not allowed to come," Qin Yan responded in a strict tone. She did not want Xi Ting to come with them and anger the little guy. Anyway, she had seen her darling upset today and did not want this thing to happen again. Also, if Xi Ting really tagged along, the little bun would lose his trust on her as she had promised him that the following day would just be for the two of them.

"Fine, fine, I won’t tag along," Xi Ting assured Qin Yan.

The next morning, as Qin Yan descended the stairs after freshening up, she was greeted by a heartwarming sight in the living room. There stood her daling, his eyes sparkling with excitement, and a small backpack slung over his shoulder.

The little bun did not wear the boring clothes he wore every day. Instead, he wore a pair of comfortable denim overalls adorned with playful cartoon patches, showcasing a whimsical touch. Underneath, he had on a cheerful, striped T-shirt that added a burst of color to his look. His tiny sneakers matched the hues of his outfit.

Qin Yan immediately noticed that this was the same outfit which she had purchased for the little one on their previous shopping trip a long time ago.

Seeing her darling all set with his backpack and his eyes shining with excitement, Qin Yan couldn’t help but smile. Her heart swelled with happiness at the thought of spending a special day with the little bun, creating precious memories together. The joy on the little guy’s face mirrored the warmth in Qin Yan’s heart.

Xi Ting was sitting on the couch waiting for Qin Yan. He was all set to leave for the office, but he wanted to bid goodbye to his son and his cookie before leaving. Thus, when Qin Yan descended the stairs, he was stunned. Today, she had her hair up in a ponytail, and was wearing a pair of overalls and a floral white T-shirt with a cartoon figure on it. With a shoulder bag slung across her body, she looked like a student.

The little bun and Qin Yan almost looked like siblings. If he had tagged along with them, it would appear like a father was taking his children out to play. Thinking of this, Xi Ting’s face darkened. He felt that it was good that he was not going along.

When he saw that the duo was ready to head out, he walked towards Qin Yan and hugged her, "Enjoy your day and take care."

He then looked at the little guy, "I am not coming along, so you have to take care of your mommy. Don’t bother her much."

The little guy nodded obediently.

To start their much-anticipated day together, Qin Yan and the little bun first set off for the nearby supermarket. The automatic doors swished open as they entered, and the cool air of the grocery store greeted them. Once inside, they strolled through the aisles, hand in hand. Qin Yan let the little guy pick out his favorite snacks while she picked up her favorite cookies.

Qin Yan then guided the little one to the fresh produce section. Together, they selected various cuts of meat, a bag of charcoal for the grill, and a selection of refreshing drinks for their upcoming barbecue.

After exiting the supermarket, Qin Yan decided to make their day even more special by finding a perfect spot for a picnic. She drove them to a peaceful location by a small river, surrounded by picturesque scenery. The gentle flow of the water, the rustling leaves, and the clear blue sky created an idyllic backdrop for their outing.

As they settled on a cozy blanket, Qin Yan looked around and exclaimed, "What do you think, darling? Isn’t this a beautiful spot?"

The little bun’s eyes widened with delight, "It’s amazing, Mommy! And there’s nobody around!"

With their picturesque picnic spot chosen and the ingredients ready, Qin Yan turned her attention to setting up the barbecue. She found a flat and safe area, free from any dry leaves or overhanging branches, near the riverbank. Qin Yan unfolded the portable barbecue grill with practiced ease, its metallic structure gleaming in the sunlight.

"Alright darling, let’s get our barbecue started," she said, a spirit of adventure in her voice.

Xi Xiaobao, his eyes shining with curiosity, watched attentively as his mother placed the charcoal in the grill. Qin Yan skillfully arranged the charcoal in a pyramid shape, ensuring proper airflow for an even burn. She then lit up the charcoal.

She grabbed a pack of skewers and a platter of marinated meat, and with a twinkle in her eye, she said to the little guy, "Darling, how about I teach you how to skewer the meat?"

The little bun’s eyes lit up with excitement, "Really, Mommy? I want to learn!"

Qin Yan chuckled, "Absolutely! It’s a fun part of barbecuing. Watch closely." She demonstrated how to carefully slide the skewer through the succulent pieces of meat, explaining, "You want to make sure it goes through smoothly, but not too tightly. That way, it cooks evenly."

The little guy, mimicking Qin Yan’s actions, concentrated on threading the meat onto the skewer. Qin Yan praised him, "You’re a natural, Darling! You are the best!"
