Xi Ting did not say a thing after the bodyguard spoke. His dark eyes were like an enormous abyss. He then spoke in an icy-cold tone that could make a soul shiver, "Are they still alive?"

The bodyguard knelt down, his trembling lips finally blurting out, "Currently... unknown..."

Tong Chunian yelled angrily, "There’s only alive or dead! What do you mean by ’unknown’?!"

"Their aim... doesn’t seem to be to threaten us... It’s..." The bodyguard could not continue, but Xi Ting and Tong Chunian understood what he was trying to say.

The opponent wanted their lives!

A dreadful silence lingered in the air.

Xi Ting made a phone call and issued an order with a deadpan tone, then he spoke to the bodyguard, "Tell me the whole story from the beginning."

The bodyguard recounted everything that had happened near the lake.

Xi Ting looked like a cold machine made of steel with no emotions whatsoever in him. The Xi family immediately contacted everyone they knew and sent out many search parties. They offered large sums of money.

When the Han family came to know about this, Fang Zichen started shaking. It was as though her soul had disappeared from her body.

"No... No... This is impossible! Nothing will happen to Yan Yan!" Fang Zichen cried out in pain. She begged her husband for help, "Han Cheng, this isn’t real right? Nothing will happen to Yan Yan, right?"

Han Cheng could not respond to his wife. He wanted this news to be fake. He didn’t know what would happen to his wife if Qin Yan was not found. Thus, he also contacted all the parties he knew and searched for Qin Yan.

Even the Nie family left no stone unturned in searching for Qin Yan. However, no matter how many people and resources they invested into this, nobody could not find anything.

Qin Yan was locked up in a space which seemed like a basement. She also was unconscious till now and as she woke up, she frantically looked around her for the presence of her little bun but she could not see him anywhere. Her heart stiffened.

She had now regained her muscle strength to some bit but she realized that she had been tied up. She could not run away from the place even if she wished to.

Just then, someone pushed open the door. A man in black carried a laptop which was currently in facetime with someone. When the man turned over the laptop screen towards Qin Yan, the latter was shocked.

The person on the screen was none other than Nie Mianmian. It had been a couple of months since Qin Yan had seen Nie Mianmian but now she appeared much thinner and much more worn out.

Nie Mianmian sneered and said, "Qin Yan, oh Qin Yan. You still ended up in my hands."

Qin Yan looked at Nie Mianmian in astonishment, "Are you the one who kidnapped us? Nie Mianmian, are you sick in the head?"

Nie Mianmian said, "Yes. As long as you’re alive, I’ll feel gloomy each day. I won’t be able to stomach any food and I won’t be able to sleep. The only thing I want is to see you die. Tell me, is there any way to resolve this problem?"

Behind the man holding the laptop, there were several burly men who did not seem to be from C Nation. Their skin color was on the darker side.

"You have a problem with me, right? Then you should come at me. Why did you kidnap Xi Xiaobao? Let him go," Qin Yan said.

"You are in no place to tell me what I should and what I shouldn’t do," Nie Mianmian sneered. "Do you know how much I went through just to bring you here? Xi Ting’s subordinates are so difficult to shake off. You might not know but from the day I came to know the truth about your birth, I’ve wanted to take you here for some fun. Today, I finally got the chance to do it."

Nie Mianmian looked carefully at Qin Yan. Because she had been kidnapped all the way here, Qin Yan was in an extremely disheveled state and her face looked filthy too.

Nie Mianmian scoffed, "How dirty. I really don’t understand what exactly is wrong with Ah Ting. How could they possibly take a fancy to a woman like you?"

Qin Yan’s heart sank. She looked at Nie Mianmian. Her eyes were darting around and there was a crazed expression on her face as she looked at Qin Yan.

Qin Yan could not believe it. Nie Mianmian had done everything just based on her assumptions of the future. She was crazy!

She said, "Nie Mianmian, stop throwing a mad fit. I don’t want the title of the daughter of Nie family. Anyway, I will be deemed as the illegitimate daughter. You are the legitimate daughter. So, your position will not waver. Why are you thinking so much?"

Nie Mianmian scoffed, "Even if my position of legitimate daughter will not waver, but what about the love and attention of my family members? Won’t I have to share it? My grandparents are already in awe of you and even my sister-in-law and her children like you. More than half of my family favors you over me."

"And Ah Ting. Do you know how long I have waited to be with him? I worked so hard to be worthy of him. I worked so hard to be able to stand on the same footing as him."

Looking back on her past, Nie Mianmian’s expression was one of complete sorrow. "I’m the best at everything I do and as good as the professionals, whether it is in horse-riding, archery, ballet, or ballroom-dancing. Do you know how much time and effort I put into these things?"

Qin Yan now understood that Nie Mianmian’s main target was her. Her little bun was just a measure for Nie Mianmian to successfully kidnap Qin Yan. However, this didn’t mean that the little guy was not in danger.

She could do nothing other than consoling this crazy woman, "Nie Mianmian, if you let me go, I can promise that I won’t enter your family. I will even refuse to get acknowledged by them."

"That’s enough. Don’t act like you are doing me a favor. I don’t want your favor."

Nie Mianmian snickered and looked at Qin Yan. "I really want to know what else you have that appeals to Xi Ting other than your face. If not for Xi Ting, you wouldn’t amount to anything."

Qin Yan looked at Nie Mianmian. "A person doesn’t have to be capable and be the best at everything to attain happiness. Everyone has the right to be happy."

Nie Mianmian rebuked instantly, "No, apart from this face of yours, you can seduce men with your skills in the bedroom. Today, I’ll destroy everything you have, one by one. Don’t worry, Qin Yan. You won’t die. You’ll go back alive, but you’ll lose everything. When you go back to your daily life, then nobody will even look at you much less accept you. You’ll understand why!"

As Nie Mianmian was speaking, a bodyguard approached the man who was holding the laptop. He whispered something into the man’s ears which made the man’s eyes widen in disbelief, "How is this possible?"

Nie Mianmian felt something was wrong as she heard the man’s voice. She asked, "What’s wrong?"

The man holding the laptop turned it towards himself and replied, "Ma’am, the child has been taken away by someone!"

"What?" Nie Mianmian was shocked.

"Find him immediately."

Along with Nie Mianmian, Qin Yan also froze when she heard that the little guy was taken away. What did this mean? Was he kidnapped by someone else or was he being rescued?
