Chapter 41: A worried Beta
Chapter 41: A worried Beta
"Mr Kim?" Mr Fred lowered his head a bit in submission. Though an Alpha, he’s a level lower than the principal, who’s also an Alpha.
I gulped as my eyes immediately went to the door not too far from where we stood. What are the chances that I can get to that door before they catch up with me?
"Zero! I tell you, it’s nothing but zero!" Fan giggled, answering a question I know I didn’t voice out loud.
I got startled when I felt a cold hand on my arm. I tore my gaze from an amused Fan, to look at the principal, who was holding my arm as if I were a prisoner that attempted a prison break.
"If you will excuse us, Mr Fred. There is something I need to ask Brys over here." He started dragging me back the way I came before Mr Fred could say a word.
I glanced back at Mr Fred for help, but he wasn’t looking at me. He was staring at Mr Kim with a look of admiration on his face.
The principal dragged me back to the empty hall before he let go of his hand on my arm.
"Why were you hiding from me?" He clenched his teeth, with a murderous expression on his face. He looked like he was moments from killing me.
Had it not been for the presence of Fan, I would have been scared out of my bones —funny, right?
"I..." I gulped as I tried to think of the right way to escape unscathed.
"You didn’t come to my room yesterday. Why was that?" Though his voice softened a bit, there is this frostiness in them that made me shiver. It seemed like something was crawling up my arms.
"... I overslept."
"And today? You ran away the moment you saw me. Did you also oversleep?" He asked in a mocking tone, making it seem like I somehow committed a crime by running away from him.
"I was..." I glanced at a floating Fan but he winked at me before he disappeared.
Bastard!
"Who are you staring at?" He turned to look behind him but saw nothing.
"No one." I gulped as I took a deep, steady breath with a forced smile on my face. "I was only returning to my dorm to get my books."
"Your dorm?" He raised a doubting brow. "Why were you outside then? You don’t seem like you were returning to your dorm for books. You look like you were running away.... from me."
He sounded sad. Just for a moment, I felt bad. His eyes dulled as he took a step back with his back hunched. He seemed like a pet who was scolded by his master.
"I... Mr Kim... I—"
"You can call me K whenever we are alone. There is no need for formality... That’s if you wish to be my friend."
Ever since I met him, I have never seen him look so sad. He always had this smug, frosty look in his eyes, but not any more.
"I..." I took a step towards him, feeling damned guilty for making him sad. "You..."
"Brys!"
Sky ran towards me with his eyes so wide, he looked like one who saw a ghost. He only spared a look at the principal before he turned to me. "Are you okay?" He gave me a thorough once over, starting from my head to my feet.
"Hmm," I forced a smile. "I’m okay." I turned to look at the principal, who was staring hard at him. Gone is the sad expression on his face. He looked pissed as he glared at Sky’s head.
Fan materialized in front of me. Had I not been familiar with his ways of materializing at odd times, I would have been startled.
"I didn’t see the handsome Alpha. The Beta is the only one I found." He motioned towards Sky who was still checking my body for any injuries while the principal glared with a murderous expression.
So, Fan was the one who called Sky? I smiled at the thoughts. Who would have believed my stupid system is finally helping out after putting me through frustrating times?
"I will see you after classes, Brys. In my room." Mr Kim winked at me before he turned a glare towards Sky who hadn’t turned yet.
From his hunched shoulder, you can tell he’s pissed. He didn’t turn until Mr Kim was out of earshot. Only then did he turn to look at the man’s back. He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists, looking like he was barely restraining himself.
This is the first time I have seen him this infuriated. It made me wonder why he was acting so... odd.
"Sky —"
"What did he do to you? Did he try anything funny?" He turned to face me with a soft expression on his face. Though his eyes still swirled with anger, he looked concerned — about me?
I forced a chuckle. "Seems like you don’t know who you just met. He’s our new principal —"
"And?" Sky cut my words off with a glare.
"Well, he wanted to be friends and..."
"Stay the fucking hell away from him!" He growled, shocking me with his outburst. I squinted.
"What’s wrong with you?"
I have never seen him this angry. He looked like he was barely restraining himself. His hold on my shoulders became too painful that I had to yelp.
"Sorry!" He immediately let go of his hold on my shoulders as he stepped back.
"... What’s wrong with you? Why are you acting... Strange?" I peered into his eyes as I tried to know what was going on, but he turned his face to the side.
"I’m sorry. I was just... I was trying to keep him safe. He’s a new principal. None of us knows about him. I was... I was merely worried about his intentions for attempting to befriend you." He ran a hand through his golden hair as he tried not to look at me. His eyebrows twitched as he bit down hard on his bottom lip.
