Chapter 40: Running from the devil

Bry’s POV

Though Ray is still acting a bit odd, he agreed to follow me to class. He hasn’t told me what went on between him and Sky. The only thing I know was he doesn’t like the Beta any more.

Fan hasn’t been of help. He’s always singing so loud about falling in love and heartbreak.

.... Please, if you know where I can sell my system, indicate. It’s getting too much.

I’m glad he doesn’t mention the task I was assigned to, and I’m delighted about that. I don’t have the time to listen to him drone about a task which I’m not ready to complete.

All around us, students hurried to their first classes. As for Ray and I, we are going to the cafeteria for breakfast. We missed it —by sleeping in — so we are hoping the cook will be awed by our cute faces, and give us a helping or two.

"Go ahead, I will be right back," I said the moment I spotted the principal. He hasn’t yet seen me, which means I’m safe for now. I forgot all about our walk in the garden because Fan kept on disturbing me.

I had to force myself to sleep. And in so doing, I woke up later that night. Had Storm not brought dinner, I would have starved. Goddess, that Alpha is a lifesaver.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t hate him. I still hate him for what he put Brys through. I won’t rest until I avenge the stupid Omega.

"What’s wrong?" Ray turned to me with wide eyes. "Are you okay?"

"I’m good!" I turned and rushed down the hall. "Reserve something for me, I need to get my books from the room."

Which is a bloody lie. I intend to use the backdoor to get to class. This way, the principal won’t see me until classes dismiss. If it’s possible, I don’t ever wish to see him until I leave for Earth.

He can look for another student. I’m just not mapped out to help him —not when he always has a creepy smile on his face.

I rubbed my hand on my arm. Why do I suddenly feel goosebumps on them?

"Brys!"

Ray called out to me, but I’m already halfway across the hall to stop. I can’t afford to get caught by the principal.

"Slow down!" Fan chuckled behind me, "are you running from your admirer?"

"To hell!" I gritted my teeth as I tried not to shout. I don’t need any of the students around to stare at me. I’m better off as the odd Omega that won the game. I don’t need them to add insanity to the list of things wrong with me.

He chuckled, "Brys has many admirers. What are we going to say about that? Don’t tell me you kept shaking your male booty until you got three men mad over you?" He chuckled the moment I made to open the back door.

There are no students out here. The back door leads to the back of the dorm. The only time you see the students use it is during the evening —after classes.

That was why there were no students in sight. The place is empty. Aside from Fan and I.

I turned when his words finally registered in my mind.

"What the hell did you say?" I clenched my teeth and narrowed my eyes at him.

"Well..." He trailed off with a smile. "What exactly did you hear me say?" He placed a hand under his jaw. "I didn’t say anything right now, did I?"

I know he was playing with me, but I allowed him to do so. "You said something about three men, what do you mean?"

"Three men?" He pursed his lips. "If I said anything about men, they should be four! Three Alphas and one —"

"Brys!"

Shit!

He’s here!

Without looking back, I opened the back door and raced out of it, eager to lose the principal.

Goddess, what did I do wrong? Why is he trying to frustrate my life?

Wait, how did he even know where to find me? Did he ask Ray? But that’s impossible. Ray doesn’t know that I went towards the backdoor.

"Brys!" He called out to me while Fan chuckled, murmuring rubbish about four men.

Out here, I turned the corner, eager to hide somewhere so as not to get caught.

However, I ended up in the arms of someone else.

"Oops!" I gasped at the collision. A sturdy arm righted my stance before I heard a friendly chuckle.

I stepped back, and nervously ran a hand through my hair when I noticed who it was. Mr Fred —our history teacher. I nervously glanced down at my clothes to be certain I’m putting on the right uniform.

Mr Fred is one of the few teachers who are strict about uniforms. Luckily for me, I’m putting on the green shirt and blue trousers we wear every Monday. I tucked in well like a good student —unlike Ray, who doesn’t.

"Mr Fred!" I nervously took a step back. Since I got back from the game, I haven’t seen him. It was as if the teacher hid somewhere.

He smiled, "Brys. It has been long, son."

He surprised me by closing the distance between us and patting me on the back.

I nervously chuckled as I glanced back at Fan for help. From my peripheral, I saw the principal coming towards us.

Shit!

I need to leave. I can’t let that cold, clingy, frosty man get to me. I need to escape!

"Mr Fred—"

"How is the mark? Has it completely gone out?" He asked.

"Mark? What mark, are you talking about?" I forgot about the approaching principal as I tried to understand what he meant by the mark.

Could it be...

No, there is no way. I would have known if I was marked.

"The one —"

"There you are, Brys." The devil finally caught up with us. He smiled the moment my eyes met his, and he had the guts to wink at me!
