Transmigrated As A Feisty Omega -
Chapter 149: Don’t judge a book by its cover
Chapter 149: Don’t judge a book by its cover
Just like May, the rest of the princes showed up at my door whenever they got the chance, asking to take a walk with me. Aside from Benda, that is. He still looked at me like we had got a beef I knew absolutely nothing about, and couldn’t even recall ever meeting him before I arrived with Storm.
The other princes didn’t seem to share the same thoughts as him. Now that Storm was gone, they must have assumed he wouldn’t make it out alive, and wanted to call dibs on his omega.. His parents were the only positive ones. Ray was just as negative as the rest. Though he knew how strong Storm was, he had voiced his fear to me, and that almost made me waver.
The only thing that kept me strong was the assurance from Fan that my mate was okay. If anything had happened to him, he would have told me about it.
"So, any progress in finding the bug?" Fan asked, appearing in front of me. It had been a week since Storm left, and I had been working tirelessly to find out who the bug was while fending off the advances of the princes. They hadn’t been covert about it. Anyone could tell what they were feeling, especially May.
"I’m still on it, but I’m certain it’s May. Phil is just like me. They brought him into this story because —"
"You can’t just rule him out because he’s your friend," Fan cut me off, frowning. "Remember, you can’t trust anyone in this world, Brys. The world isn’t like the one you came from. This is the story world where the friends turn out to be the enemy. You experienced that in the first world, didn’t you?"
"But Phil isn’t like them!" I argued. I knew he wasn’t lying about being careful and not judging a book by its cover, but I needed him to know how different Phil was...I had spent hours with him, studied him and asked questions enough to realise he’s clueless. If he were the bug, he would have slipped...
However, it wasn’t the same as May. He was undoubtedly the bug.
Fan let out a sigh. "Whatever you say." He didn’t argue with me, which was a first for my system, who loved to debate until he won.
"Good...now that we are on the same page, how long do I have to identify the bug and get rid of it?" I asked, already getting into the most important task.
"Two days."
My eyes widened. "What? You are pulling my legs, right?"
"You have until two days to find the bug, or else he will kill you." His voice became grim. "You know what will happen if you get taken down by the bug, don’t you?"
I nodded. "I do."
Knowing the fate that awaited me if I didn’t get the task done on time, I was determined to do it, to get the bug before he gets me. My issue now that I have identified May as the bug is how to get rid of him. It wouldn’t be easy, I know.
"Then you have to be careful. If you get rid of the wrong one, the bug will still kill you. Remember," he placed a hand on my shoulder, "You are the protagonist of your story. Everything revolves around you. Without you, Storm wouldn’t have created this world. You have the power to destroy it, but when you are taken out, everything comes crashing down, even Storm."
I blinked. Now that was a lot of information, one thing I wasn’t even expecting. He smiled, patted my shoulder, and disappeared.
With Fan gone, I lay on my bed and looked up at the ceiling. Deep down, I got this feeling that he wanted to prevent me from making a mistake, which was why he kept on arguing about May being the bug.
Could he be right? Or just talking to get me to think before I act? I couldn’t tell which was which, even though I knew he wouldn’t stress about it if he didn’t know about it.
I flopped down on the bed and closed my eyes. Inhaling, I thought back to the last world. Blue Moon wasn’t that difficult to navigate through, but this one seemed a bit of trouble. It must all be related to the Storm of this world.
While the other one was naturally flirty and kind, this one always acted like he had a rod up his arse. His character must have rubbed off on this world.
I stayed in bed for a few minutes before I got up. I only had 48 hours to get the bug and move ahead of him, else this world would be destroyed, together with my babies.
I changed out of the rainbow-coloured shirt I was putting on, opting for black instead. Dressed and ready for the mission, I left the room and closed the door gently behind me, locking it as I did. I wasn’t like Storm, who always left his door open for anyone to barge in when they wanted. Not like they ever did, though. Aside from Benda. None of them would have dared step into his room when he was around. The same couldn’t be said now. I needed to be careful before I got sneaked up on.
When I left the room, I had intended to go over to May’s house, but I changed my mind halfway there. Instead of meeting the other prince, I walked towards the Northern wing to look for Phil.
Now that Fan has sparked my doubts about him, I needed to be certain he wasn’t the bug; this way, I can meet Fan head-on over it and accuse him of trying to sow discord between me and my best friend.
I just prayed, the nearer I got there for him not to be the bug. It would hurt to get rid of my best friend. But more than that would be my feelings when he finally raised his hands against me to kill me.
